Amazing spot , the pastrami is always on point. Highly recommend - don't listen to the negative comments I have been coming here for years and the counter lady and all staff are very nice read more

A classic spot that's been open for decades, making delicious torpedo sandwiches and giving great service. My love for sandwiches started here, when my father would bring me as a kid. I remember fully loaded subs with mayo, lettuce, tomato, onions, and dressing. Another classic is the warm pastrami sandwich with mustard and cheese. Amazing to taste something that brings you back in time. An absolute must try. read more

Bacon Roast beef Eggs lettuce and onions. Had it for the first time. Never going back. Super sloppy wasn't cut in half. Bacon was limp not crispy Bread was squished wayyyy tooo much mayo that taste bad (def not Hellman's) too overwhelming to taste the rest of sandwich asked for onions lettuce didn't get any of that and there was a hair in between the eggs and cheese. Counter lady was rude On top of the fact that they charge 2$ for card use. SMH overhyped sandwich spot. Don't go here!!!!! read more

I have been going to torpedo base for over 10 + years and I can tell without a doubt that they changed the supplier of their products because the cold cut meat now is not up to par for me. They never ever have any bologna and their turkey cold meat is crap read more

Torpedo Base - SUPER HOT PASTRAMI WITH CHEESE AND MUSTARD - Sandwiches Near Me - Paterson, New Jersey

My favorite sandwich is the pastrami sandwich , and ham lettuce cheese and tomato sandwich, and many many more hot foods.

Amazing Pastrami Sandwhich simply the best one I ever had. The service is amazing. I recommend you go a try it out.

Used to frequent this establishment when I worked at Sonny Chevrolet in Paterson. Always got the Hot Roast Beef with Meat Gravy. And my Lunch Partner always got the Hot Pastrami. Till this day, I still haven't had a sandwich as good as these. Highly Highly recommended. read more

Would take a half star off for the lack of a toaster or broiler to melt the cheese on my Reuben, otherwise this is a world class sandwich. The bread as the name implies is mainly subs aka grinders, aka submarine sandwich, aka hero (Brooklyn, my home town)... As a diabetic I wanted to avoid the loaf of bread, so I went for the marble rye Reuben, but the lack of a toaster or broiler to melt the cheese and toast the bread definitely knocked this world class sandwich down a few rungs, but this NJ sandwich shop is the real deal. Must return to try others when this sandwich finishes sinking me :) read more

Small place and the sandwich looks good. BUT when you hear a microwave and you hear the person who is making your food say, "what do you want me to do?" And giggles in the back it's hard to keep your appetite. I can literally feel how cold the fridge must have been because the edges of the meat are still dead cold. Didn't even microwave it right smh. Don't know what it was in the past but I hope you won't settle for this now. read more

Food is delicious! Try the hot pastrami with cheese or the turkey and cheese. Everything there is good.

6 outta 10 on service, 2 on ambiance, 11 outta 10 on an Italian sub with a whole pickle and a jumbo "uptown". Price and size of subs here make Subway and Jersey Mikes look like a joke. This place is the real deal, a Paterson institution. Make a special trip for the pastrami and thank me later. read more

I've live in Paterson for over 20 years and never stopped by until recently. I got the #26 which was pastrami and beef with cheese. It looked like half a sub. I should have ordered 2 bc it was very tasty. The meat was very moist and tender. Go when the sun is out. Unless you have protection. Not sure if cc accepted. Paterson is a CREAM city. Dollar dollar bills y'all!!!!!! read more

This is a hole in the wall if there ever was a hole in the wall. We would have never found this place if we weren't told about it by the man at the Great Falls Cultural Center. As soon as my dad heard hot pastrami sandwiches, we were so there. Of course he didn't actually order one of these, but I did. This place is very bare bones. You walk in, you order at the door to the left and then you come around and pick your food up at the other end of the very small shop. No tables. You eat somewhere else. We didn't know how to order. After ordering our food, we heard people ordering their sandwiches "all the way" which meant with everyone on it. I asked the woman at the counter how people usually get their hot pastrami and she said 90% ordered it with cheese and mustard. Figured I'd go with the majority. Dad had a hot roast beef torpedo with gravy. Very straight forward. Probably how I would have ordered it as well. These torpedo's are like crack. I don't know what crack is like, but I'm just making my best guess. My torpedo was stuffed with pastrami on a standard submarine roll with spicy mustard and Swiss cheese. The torpedo is the smallest sandwich. They also had a super sized sandwich and another choice as well. The torpedo size was plenty big. Their slogan is, "Our Torpedo will sink you." They got that right. This is a must stop if you are ever in the Paterson area. read more

I started working in Paterson a few years back, and I always do lunch-runs every Friday. This place was the only place nearby with 5 Stars on Yelp, so i knew I had to try it out. Absolutely fantastic. Everything from their Italian to their famous Pastrami, it's unbelievable. I'm not a huge pastrami guy, but Torpedo Base is the only place I'll order pastrami. The owner is a Paterson native, and he's incredibly sweet and funny. Also, if it matters to anyone, apparently Fetty Wap, another Paterson native, comes here occasionally, and they have a picture hanging up of him waiting in line. I'll post the picture of Fetty if I still have it on my computer. Just seemed like a funny side-note. read more

It's been over twenty years and this place is still standing. As we pulled up to the place, the outside still looks the same. The signs are still in red, white and blue. When we got out of the car, people were standing around outside waiting to pay for their orders because the inside of the place has been reduced. If my memory servers me correctly, the inside of the place was already small from the beginning. The reduction in size has to do with them not only selling sandwiches any more. They also serve hot food and other things. We ordered our sandwiches which were 2 torpedo best and 1 pastrami 6" hero/sub that cost about $5.65 and their larger hero/sub sandwiches are around $12 or $13. The sandwiches weren't the old time ones that I remembered but they were still good as well as their prices. Torpedo Base, I would like to thank you for remaining a staple to the Paterson community and bringing back old memories. I will be back!! read more

Omg - been living in Paterson for about 4 years and just now visited this place. You would never think in a million years that this place would make the best pastrami subs in North Jersey. It's basically a hole in the wall but it's worth the visit if you are in the area. One minor issue... They don't take credit/debit cards!!! Ugh.. Anyway, bring cash. It's worth it. read more

Such an amazing place! 1) The sandwiches are to die for. Literally. (The area is one of the worst parts of Paterson.) 2) I got the pastrami sandwich. Just amazing, probably the best pastrami sandwich I ever had. 3) The size is huge. One sandwich is good for 2 people. I have a huge appetite, and those sandwiches are too big for me. And I got the medium size. 4) The price is ridiculously cheap. 5) Cash Only! read more

This place is great. A little hesitant to go into paterson just for a sandwich but the gps said it was 12 minutes from the house. So worth it. Not much parking on the street so I ran in while my sister stayed in the car. Was out in five minutes. Even got a cool little story about 1963 from the old man behind the counter(because the sandwiches came to $19.63). Im so full of food I cant type any more. We got a pastrami and a roast beef both super and we only ate half. Time for a nap. ZzZzzZz read more

What do I like about Torpedo Base? Well everything. Their food hits the spot, the menu is straight and to the point, and everything is made to order. It is a family ran business and the boss is no nonsense (the daughter) and the father is a very lovely older man who always greets me with a smile. What I like that they do is when they take your order they ask you your first name and that is how they call your order out to you to tell you it's ready. A perfect touch read more

Aside from knowing this place from having early memories of being covered in dust demolishing nearby houses with my father in the seventies as a child,I am truly impressed with how Torpedo Base USA has maintained their five star yelp status remembering the ever growing line of its working class patrons faces watching other hungry customers squeeze into the tight Lafayette street parking spaces. Staple eateries that stand the test of time by simply having enough steady satisfied customers alone is a feat that not many establishments can share however having maintained their five star yelp status amongst a diverse neighborhood that has soldiered on since my Great Grandfather tagged his Silk City in Bronze is nothing short of amazing. Perhaps the next time I'm summoned to Uber a Jersey City rider's fuss under the Hudson through the Holland into New Yorks lower Eastside which is rare since I usually refuse those trips to save my TL's clutch,I'll accept regardless of the no-fare-ghost-rider coming back just to visit Katz(now at 4 stars:*Yelp)Deli to confirm what I've learned in my years since Paterson's burned. Bigger isn't always better and somethings in life are best left unchanged such as this great little place and while father time tugs at us all with his ghost tethered chain attached to our time and space,we can still enjoy the great taste of our own Silk City's Torpedo Base...U.S.A!!! I'm new to the Paterson neighborhood. Began work and been looking for sandwiches. Found it now. This place knows how to work pastrami.

Have not been here in years but these are still by far the best subs in the city....you will definitely not be disappointed.

This was my first visit to Torpedo Base USA. It was a Friday at 10:30am. I ordered a 12 inch #30 sandwich which is pastrami and roast beef with American cheese from the kindly gentleman. Now here is my issue. The lady at the register makes Seinfeld's The Soup Nazi seem cordial. I would had preferred him. I had to spend five minutes listening to her yelling on the cell phone to her insurance company on personal matters at a decibel that actually hurt. I did not order the extra vulgarity and unfortunately it was free. The only time she spoke to me was to take my money. I couldn't even "thank" her because she immediately ignored me and started talking to the other employee. I was leery of the neighborhood. It turned out I needed to be scared of Torpedo Base USA. Thank god this place is to-go only. There's no seating if you were wondering. Oh yea, the food. It's not like you get an overflowing amount of it but it did taste pretty good. read more
