They make the best sandwiches. Most places are cheap with the deli meat, and I am always amazed about how full I am after eating. Sadly, they are selling the business, but I will recommend trying it before they do. I'm honestly scared. It's gonna turn into something else.. I hope whoever decides to buy this business keeps it the same. It's right at the end of KEARNY and such a welcoming place. The owners are always kind to my kiddos and very family friendly. It has an old school vibe, but it is perfectly clean! I highly recommend you give this place a try you won't be disappointed I promise. read more

(There's a pang of sadness when I see any of my old reviews that mention Clinton's iced teas. I guess I can find comfort that I drank entirely too many of them in my youth and even my own kids got to try them once or twice before the company went kaput.) Onward and upwards... it's now (almost) 2024 and while the the shelves are a bit more sparse than I recall and they got rid of their lottery machine (which seemed to bring in a lot of old-timers) - what I'm here for is their sandwiches. Specifically their #1 Italian. And I'm happy to report: they're still the best around. (And it tasted even better after a recent not-so-good visit to a Jersey Mike's in my hometown.) Besides their incredible subs you'll find the usuals (chips, soda, ice cream) and a few random items (aspirin, Chapstick). Cool crew behind the counter. Good pricing for such a quality product. Trying to find parking is still a nightmare. 'Enjoy every sandwich.' -- Warren Zevon (No truer words were ever spoken.) read more

Amazing bread, amazing meat, amazing deli. Must try the cappy's American or the cappy's Italian. Quick and reasonably priced if you are in the area and craving a sub. read more

Super cute deli. Really enjoyed the place. I only leave reviews when I love a place or really hate it. This is a pure love review. Good vibes, clean, friendly and a monster sandwich(s). Wish more businesses were old school like this one. They clearly take pride in their product. read more

I've been living down the hill from Capelluti's for almost 8 years and have never been. Today I decided to walk over and see what they are about. From the very onset I was pleased. The place is kept immaculately clean, a great first impression. Got a Roast beef with provolone and their Italian sub with added hot peppers. Both were great, made to order on a good roll. The hot peppers actually have a kick to them, which I love! Glad to know there is a place I can walk to that actually makes good subs. This was my first time but definitely not the last. They have been there 22 years and are a local gem. Glad I decided to stop in. You should too. ENJOY!!! read more

Cappelluti's Deli - a bottle of beer and a menu - Delis Near Me - Kearny, New Jersey

Does not look like a very appealing store, from the outside. Not a diner or appetizing sandwich shop, for sure.

I was in the Newark area and was craving an Italian hero. Searched by rating and came across this spot. This was a little further away than I intended but I made the trek cause the craving was strong. When I got here, I was kind of surprised because it honestly looks like a old, run down bodega. Could these reviews have lied to me?? I was helped by an older gentleman who was kind enough to explain to me the menu. I guess They normally have regulars and I was someone he didn't recognize. I ordered the whole cappy Italian #1 and a small potato salad. The gentleman who manned the register wasn't as friendly as the gentleman who made the sandwich - actually he didn't even say a word aside from the price. It was about a 30 minute drive home for me but the sandwich held up well. Structurally, the bread was soft but had just enough crunch on the exterior for my liking. Meats were piled up and the sandwich was nicely stacked. Held up well while eating as well. I always try the potato salad whenever I grab a deli sandwich and WOW. The potato salad imo was literally perfect. It was exact flavor profile I was looking for - a little tangy and not drowned in mayo. What a perfect pairing with the sandwiches. I'm not in this area much, but Kearny seems to really have some hidden gems, this most definitely being one of them. I'm a sucker for people who do what they do well. I wish them well in these tough times and will definitely recommend anyone in the area to check this spot out. Will most definitely be back again! read more

Delicious hero fresh and great bread. Just wish they would use gloves when prepping the sandwich !!

What can you say this Deli is a staple here in the Kearny area. Every kid growing up knew this is where the best subs were made. My personal favorite being the Italian! The bread is soft, the ingredients are fresh! If you are ever in the area make sure to have a sub from here you will not regret it! read more

Nothing, I mean nothing, can't beat a classic italian sub with capicola, ham, salami, and provolone cheese, served on a hoagie roll with lettuce, tomato, onion and oil and vinegar. This places does it perfectly! The bread is perfect too - soft on the inside with a little bit of crunch on the outside with a generous dose of the oil and red vinegar (which certainly ties it together). Prices are reasonable but I wouldn't recommend even a whole for 2 people as a half is plenty. They also have homemade salads as well for sides and a good selection of beverages and snacks. Given the amount of delis in the area, I highly recommend this one! read more

Cappelluti's Deli - Delis Near Me - Kearny, New Jersey

So with all the 5 star reviews you would think this place was legit, but it's just a corner bodega with a deli cooler and some meat slicers. This place absolutely stank of industrial cleaner, and that smell stuck to the sandwiches I got and was just very unpleasant. If you eat with all senses like me, this smell is going to be a problem. The sandwiches themselves were good. The bread here is GREAT. Also, the veg got shredded fresh to order, which is nice. The roast beef was very rare, the way I like it, and the Italian combo was generously layered. I appreciate that this place was clean, but the smell of cleaner is unforgivable. read more

Have been living close to Cappelluti's for a few years and have always wanted to stop, so me and the GF were wanting a good sandwich and that is exactly what we got, we got the # 1 combo and it was delicious, very fresh and a good portion of meat on the sandwich. The people there are very cool and friendly, we will be going back soon to try more of the food. read more

Cappelluti's Deli - The #1 combo so delicous and a good amount of meat and did I mention it was delicous, what a sandwich - Delis Near Me - Kearny, New Jersey

Best sandwich spot in town. The bread compliments the sub. Love this place. I totally recommend.

I was in the area for an appointment and happened to find this spot in the area. I got Cappy's Italian Combo and it did not disappoint. Definitely one of the top Italian subs I've had. Bread and meat were fresh. Staff was also friendly. read more

Hands down one of our favorite sandwich places in Kearny. They have two basic menus, The American and The Italian. Our normal orders come off the Italian menu, basically all the sandwiches on this side have Fresh Mozzarella and Italian cold cuts. Every sandwich is made with the highest quality meats and cheeses (Boar's Head) and the best bread (Brother's Bakery rolls, I think). Also, they have a great selection of drinks and chips to complete your lunch time cravings. Besides the food, the staff is very friendly and by the third time we went they knew both of our usual orders. read more

First time trying this place out yesterday and the ;Italian Combo' Hero was excellent. 5 Stars for sure, and will definitely be back !

This deli deserves to be upgraded to 5 stars. It's been years since my last review and they still have the best subs in town - maybe the whole tri-state area. Friendly service and I love supporting a local mom and pop deli. Their sandwiches put Subway, Blimpies, and Quiznos to shame! Money always well spent whenever I go here. read more

Not that Cappelluti's needs another 5 star review, but they are getting it from me. This place is great. The sandwiches are fantastic. They have great bread which makes such a difference. The Italian combo is probably one of the best I've ever had. It's also immaculately clean and most importantly the people who work there are just the nicest people you could ever deal with. Cappelluti's Deli is the best deli in New Jersey! I travel all around the country and the world and I never have had a sub sandwich better than Cappelluti's. I've eaten in Michelin's Star restaurants that weren't as good as this deli. I mean I know it's a deli but WOW, amazing! Whenever I come home from abroad or across the country it's the first place I go for My fix. Fresh mozzarella cheese made by hand every day as well as daily fresh bread. Jim and Carol the owners are such nice hard working people who always have a smile and treat their customers top notch. A real old fashioned neighborhood deli where every kid know wants to go and very friendly atmosphere. Don't let the basic look fool you this is the greatest deli in New Jersey, probably New York too. Carnegie Deli In NYC has got nothing on Cappelluti's as far as quality, service, with great prices to top off. My nephew went to college in the Midwest and when my sister went to visit he would ask her to bring Cappelluti sandwich's on the plane back in the day. 100% the best all around! read more

Liz A. I am wondering if you have ever actually walked into this place???? It seems to me that you are the one with the problem if you can't remember to check the expiration dates on items before purchasing them. Just saying!!!! I for one know the owners and employees of the this deli very well and I know for a fact how hard they work to keep their business beyond clean. I also know how much pride they take in serving their customers, which by your comments I can tell you not one of them. Therefore maybe you should walk into an establishment before taking to a forum with some small town gossip crap! I on the other hand will continue to enjoy my delicious sandwiches and catered parties by Cappelluti's!!!! read more
