Bacon Egg Cheese sandwich
Jewell S.

I came here after a bad experience at another bagel shop in the area. This place was a blessing. A basic bacon egg and cheese made gourmet with sweet maple bacon, tomatoes and Swiss! Delish!! I'm going back this morning for seconds.

Stopped in for a quick sandwich. It was excellent! The bread was super fresh and the chicken, mozzarella and peppers were too! Definitely an awesome little spot for a quick bite!

Ain't she a beauty? (Bacon, Taylor ham, egg, and cheese on a roll)

Great ambiance, and the sub I got might have been one of the best turkey subs I've had.

It was packed with 4 kinds of meats. Some reviewers mentioned that it was too much meat, but that shouldn't be a reason to dock a star. My partner enjoyed his steak sandwich as well which had cheese whiz. Super local spot. Has maybe three tables. Employees were nice. Place is across from a church so easy to get food after service! Would def come again for value, flavor, and size!

Before Jersey Mike's. Before Blimpie…read more Before Firehouse Subs. Before Subway. Before Jimmy John's. Before (okay, you get the idea)... there was Big Stash's. A (local) institution. Long before the likes of Subs Galore (a few blocks away) tried to rock the boat, Stash's was the only game in town (for a whole lotta years). I grew up two blocks away and I'm positive I put the original owner's kids through college with all the money I dropped here. After hearing new owners decided to keep the lights on I had to make an effort to get over here to show my support. Walking into the new Stash's... the place received a 'glow-up' (I'm entirely too old to be trying to use hip slang!) and loved that they decided to keep the framed Scott Baio picture (one of these days I'll share the 'deets' on that!). Surprised to see a few new menu additions (coffee?! Taylor ham?! Manhattan Special Espresso Soda?!) as well as being open more days and longer hours. For the sake of history I had to try their 'Belly Buster' and the kid handed me the sub in a box. ("Huh?! This is a weird gimmick.") But when I got home to open the box I understood 'why' - no wax paper and standard paper bag would've been able to hold this beast together. Just a ridiculous amount of (Thumann's) cold cuts and toppings that the (decent) bread tried in vain to keep together. "Bang for your buck" - you won't find a better deal. But for me it was TOO much and there's definitely an 'art' and a 'balance' to the ratio of meat to toppings to bread and Stash's is a bit TOO generous for my liking. One odd tidbit that brought me back to my youth and the old Stash's... that "stinky sub smell" that you just can't get off of your hands (and body) - no matter how many times you wash your hands, brush your teeth, take a shower, you name it. (Sadly it's Pavlovian for me to want/need a Clinton's iced tea when devouring a Stash's sub but that's no longer an option.) I hope they have another fifty years of prosperity down there in West Hudson!

Sadly, they are selling the business, but I will recommend trying it before they do. I'm honestly scared. It's gonna turn into something else.. I hope whoever decides to buy this business keeps it the same. It's right at the end of KEARNY and such a welcoming place. The owners are always kind to my kiddos and very family friendly. It has an old school vibe, but it is perfectly clean! I highly recommend you give this place a try you won't be disappointed I promise.

Onward and upwards... it's now (almost) 2024 and while the the shelves are a bit more sparse than I recall and they got rid of their lottery machine (which seemed to bring in a lot of old-timers) - what I'm here for is their sandwiches. Specifically their #1 Italian. And I'm happy to report: they're still the best around. (And it tasted even better after a recent not-so-good visit to a Jersey Mike's in my hometown.) Besides their incredible subs you'll find the usuals (chips, soda, ice cream) and a few random items (aspirin, Chapstick). Cool crew behind the counter. Good pricing for such a quality product. Trying to find parking is still a nightmare. 'Enjoy every sandwich.' -- Warren Zevon (No truer words were ever spoken.)

We ordered a few breakfast sandwiches in a Sunday morning. Out of the gate we are told they are out of round rolls. Alright, I can understand that. I'm assuming they don't make the round rolls there, so one you're sold out.... you're sold out. My wife opted for her sandwich on an everything bagel. They're out of everything bagels. Really??? I get there and as I'm waiting, their entire case is basically empty of all bagels with the exception of plain bagels. Now I'm confused. How is a bagel place out of everything with the exception of plain bagels. Alright, it is what it is. I pay for my sandwiches and I'm on my way. I should also mention that the girl at the counter was very confused which is alarming considering I was the only one in there. She asked if I was one name, when I said no, she looked perplexed. I'm thinking, how many orders could you have? Especially considering I ordered five sandwiches?? We get home and keep in mind that I only live 4 minutes from the establishment. All sandwiches are cold. Not only cold but it was basically a bagel with a hint of taylor ham and egg. I will admit that I do not like my sandwiches on bagels because most of the time I find them too doughy. Still doesn't excuse the fact that it was cold but that could be the reason why I felt it was mostly bread. Needless to say that my quest for a good breakfast sandwich in my immediate area continues.

Basic seating with nothing fancy. A full jar of fresh pickles is on the table. The pastrami is second to none. Seriously. You get a generous portion of pastrami on rye. Greasy, fatty, just perfect! The onion rings are the best. They are famous for a reason. I go a few times a month so, I'm always greeted by name and promptly seated. The food always arrives shortly after the order is taken.

I had the gluten-free pastrami wrap with fries for $23.95 and my husband had the #5 pastrami and corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing for $25.95. he also got the drip coffee with free refills for $3.25. Service was amazing. Owner's came out and chatted with us and preemptively made sure that I was aware that my food was safe for me to consume. Our waitress was incredibly personable and sweet. There were free pickles on the table. I'm not even a pickle person but I had three because again, I've been dying for vegetables after being in Europe. Great portions, safe celiac options, personable service, refillable drinks and no charge to use the toilets (although I didn't need to use them during this visit) This is what makes American restaurants great and Hobby's ticks all of those boxes. We both opted for bagel sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed. However tip from regulars was to ensure we try his lasagna one day. What I absolutely loved was his medium cappuccino with one sugar to go! I heard that espresso machine brew away and thought this can't be. It was one of the best I've had and loved the large cup. I simply would come here daily just for that and his pleasantries! I believe a customer told me he was actually a chef at a famous restaurant before, but maybe I'm screwing this story up a bit. However I am coming back as my hair salon is across the street and I will now stop here beforehand even if just for the cap! Looking forward to trying his other food and he has very affordable pricing! About 4 tables to sit, but many were coming in to order and go! See you soon!
