Everything is always seasoned and cooked to perfection. Portions are large enough to share or better yet, don't share and have leftovers for lunch tomorrow! Know before you go- it's a BYO. If you have to wait for a table ( usually not a long wait) standing there while starving and smelling fire, smoke and meat is torture, but you'll appreciate your meal even more. Also when it's closing time, it's closing time. They're not shy about letting you know it's time to leave. Not rude at all but not the place to linger after hours. Food was enjoyable and in good portions. Everything was pretty good. At the end however, when we got the check we noticed a 20% pre added gratuity. We were a party of three. My husband, myself and my 6 year old who kept himself busy drawing in a notebook (not making a mess, running around, or being loud and we got him his own entree). Also, when the server brought the portable payment terminal, it asked for an additional tip (starting at a 20% option going up from there) and the server didn't even disclose he had already included tip. We've been here before and didn't get charged tip. And yes, we did tip 20%, then. We're not a tourist town and live locally so kind of surprised. At least say something if you already added gratuity as a curtesy. Also, I know it's BYOB. After a long day out we decided to grab dinner here. Have been wanting to try it out for so long. It was already packed at 5pm on a Saturday. I don't drink, but love that they are byob and I can tell a lot of the other customers enjoyed that too. They start you off with bread and butter and some olives. Ordered half chicken, sweet potato fries, and full rack of baby back ribs - takes 45 mins but was worth the wait. Loved every bite I had. Ofc had to have some bites with their bbq and spicy sauce. I'm not sure why but I never tried Fire Pit, I've always frequented other local bbq restaurants but my boyfriend suggested it one night and I said "why not"? What a great decision because it was delicious. We snagged a table for two and service was great. Parking is a little rough in the lot but there's street parking all around. I love Picadinho but I don't eat pork so when I saw they had a chicken version - multiple actually - I ordered that right away. It was served in a traditional Portuguese clay pot bowl and it was delicious. Perfectly cooked chicken and potatoes in a decadent sauce. The flavors were absolutely there, everything seasoned to perfection and the crisp of the potatoes was just great. It comes with rice and I might order it with salad next time because it's a heavy meal. Also it feeds about 2-3 people and I ordered it for myself so I had leftovers for about two days! My boyfriend originally wanted the baby back ribs but our server said it was take around 50 minutes to make. We were on a time crunch so he got the short ribs instead but we'll definitely try the ribs on a different day with more time. The short ribs looked great and he got rice and beans with those. The sauce really takes you over the edge. Huge portions and various sides. We usually go with one combo of half chicken and ribs with yellow rice and black beans and the other is half ribs, sautéed veggies and Spanish chips! Sometimes we opt in salad or sweet potato fries! My absolute fave though are their shrimp cakes! So moist and crispy outside with a burst of flavor! Their actual online menu has many more options than DoorDash does. Highly recommend! Don't forget to ask for some bread so you finish the shrimps you can scrape the rest of the sauce with the bread so delicious! Parmesan Garlic Fries was our delicious side dish that was a perfect fit with pretty much with anything we ordered with. My cousin Stephanie planned an amazing surprise birthday dinner party at this restaurant for her Mom. They have a large private room, which accommodated our group of nearly 30 people (but can certainly fit more). The tables were set up in a U shape to allow for us to sit close together not missing a beat. There was plenty of space between the dining tables and table displaying the cake towards the front of the room (that space quickly turned into a dance floor). The restaurant is BYOB friendly , allows decorations and music of your choice (we brought our own speaker ). We had a prefix menu selected by Stephanie, including the most spectacular butter garlic shrimp (I've ever had), cheese & meats platter, french fries, rice&beans, an array of BBQ meats, ugh hope I'm not missing anything. Oh HINT: order the butter garlic shrimp sauce on the side and dip the meats in that.. You're Welcome. Tony Tony Tony! Tony was our badass server whom made sure we needed NOTHING. As soon as you thought you wanted something Tony or his partner were answering the call! Like I said there were about 30 of us and 2 of them, but they made it happen, didn't have to wait long for anything. We were all super full and happy as hell! The food was delicious. The rice and beans were ok but you cant really mess that up, the fries were dry, and for the worst part. The ribs looked like they were from an emaciated small dog. They were way overdone, very dry and salty and barely had any meat on them. I was extremely disappointed with the portions which were also extremely small. This place does not even compare to any Portuguese BBQ place in Newark where you can get more and better quality food for half the price. Drive the extra few miles and skip this place. My one bone to pick with the place: how long the food usually takes when you're sitting there (hungry and smelling all the food being worked on a room over). When your meal finally arrives it's ridiculously delicious and filling (Portuguese never skimp when it comes to portion size) and you totally don't mind that 40-something-minute lag between ordering and eating. The crew working the grills are mad scientists with how they're able to inject so much flavor into their shrimp, how their salmon can have this crunchy-crust on the outside and still be tender underneath, how the steak... okay, you get the idea. Even the big clunky boiled veggies on the side are deceptively seasoned and work perfectly with your protein. This is slowly becoming a favorite place with my family and now I've turned my inlaws into converts as well. Seating area: pretty basic/bare. Staff: always friendly. That parking lot can get jammed with the other stores also in that little strip mall. And it's BYOB. The BEST place ever to host an event. It was by far the easiest process I have ever encounter. The food as always was amazing and the selection of what we could have had was exactly what I had in mind. It was DELICIOUS. Especially the garlic shrimp, my whole family could not get enough of that sauce! Andre was super helpful as far as planning and pricing. He replied to me right away and was very informative. The price was phenomenal for what we had included the day. We had the whole beautiful room with amazing decorations to ourselves. The fact that we were able to bring our own speaker & decorations made it 10000x better, if that was even possible. Tony was an AMAZING waiter. He was hilarious and very attentive to all our needs. Fire pit offers trays of food at a reasonable price and large portion perfect for family style meals. We've ordered both chicken and steak with sides of rice, fries, and salad and everything has been delicious. They took our order and that was it. They never came back to check on us, until I flagged down the waitress because she had given me a wrong soup. She never came back, so we asked again and then a man came to bring the soup. The long waited soup was salty and did not taste fresh. Aside from the salty soup, the rest of our food was bland. Me and my dad were regular customers here but I will no longer give the owner my money for the way he treated me and my father. When we arrived at the restaurant we had two water bottles with us and didnt think it was a problem, we even asked the waitress if outside water is fine and she said its no big deal we can have our own water. A few minutes go by and the owner comes out and says really loud "SIR YOU CANNOT BRING YOUR OWN WATER IN THE RESTAURANT!!" In front of everybody, it was embarrassing, unprofessional, uncalled for, and VERY ignorant. So my father said to the owner, we were going to order beer and the owner said thats okay. Next thing you know the owner says they dont have beer and lost their liquor license but we were allowed to go across the street and bring beer back. How does that make sense? I did not like the way we were treated and i told the owner im not going to eat here and got up. Then the owner says no its okay you can drink your water, its my policy no outside drinks allowed but whats funny is that it doesnt say that ANYWHERE in the restaurant. Owner says he sells water but we told him we arent here to purchase water we are here to purchase food. All this trouble the owner made over $2 bottled water and this was a Sunday which looked slow in the restaurant so I ask whoever is reading this, why did this owner treat us like this and would you do react the same way if he were to treat you like this? I have NEVER seen a restaurant owner act this way it was very unprofessional and I would not recommend giving this man your hard earned money. We came here to eat and we got yelled at for bringing our own water when the server said it was okay. We were regular customers here, but we will never come here again. I have worked in restaurants for many years this is not how you treat customers. I an shocked the owner treated us this way. So We ended up leaving and going to a different Portuguese restaurant called Pic-Nic in East Newark. Make reservations because even when you wait to be seat people will just walk in and just sit down without even caring if you were there first. Even when you have been waiting there for 15 minutes. OK I finally was able to try out Fire Pits food and location on North Arlington. Place was clean including their restrooms and roomy enough for a crowd of 10 comfortably. We had rice beans and chicken. Chicken was tasty and the skin had a nice kick to it. It wasn't dry which was a plus and the staff was courteous and efficient. Now the only problem I had. I purchased a steak sandwich and the steak was a bit chewy. That wasn't the bad part either. The epic fail was when I bit into something hard and when I opened the sandwich I discovered bone. Are you kidding me...I don't mind bones in my steak but not in my sandwich. That threw me for the only loop. I won't under any circumstances ever order a steak sandwich from them again. Feeling like bbq grilled chicken and ribs? This place hit the spot. The food is delicious and portion size is pretty generous. They side orders of yellow rice, black rice, veggies, salad and/or fries. There's kids meal too and the size for them is ridiculously large so if you have more than one child, you may want them to share the meal. They also serve burgers, hot dogs and wraps and salad. Entrance to the restaurant is on the side walk of ridge road. There's a few tables outside for sunny warmer day seating. As soon as you walk inside, you smell the grilled meat and feel in heat. They don't turn on the air condition for folks who work there and for people who order to go but don't fret! If you decide to dine in, let them know and they will seat you in their banquet room that is much brighter and yes, has air condition. Their banquet room can seat about 40 people and people have thrown parties here. I ask the waiter, who btw is friendly, and he showed me pictures. They cater buffet style for the parties. Have been going here for years already. Great food with affordable prices. Portions are absolutely huge! The staff is also super friendly. I've tried almost half of the menu. For appetizers you must order the shrimp & garlic, and make sure you save the sauce from it to dip your bread in it. Their skirt steak melts in your mouth, but make sure to not order it well done, otherwise it does shrink too much, medium or medium well always hits the spot. Beef shorts ribs are also great and super cheap. Most places serve pretty dry and flavorless chicken, somehow the chicken here is super flavorful. Many of their items have have full or half orders, full orders are great to serve two people. So if you got a family 2 full orders will them at all for pretty cheap. read more
