I came here with my friends last night, and I have to say, this place is more than expected since coming under new ownership/grand reopening. The place is gorgeous and well taken care of. After being recommended by my Sis N Law, I decided to place an order for pickup. The young lady on the phone was pleasant and efficient providing information on orders. I ordered the Meat Combo, and a side of green salad and potato salad. She expressed they were very busy and that our food would be ready in and hour. All meats are grilled to perfection My Husband picked up the food and as he arrived our order had just came out. When he arrived he said this place gets slammed with orders so the food must be good. We opened our orders and Holy Moly so much food. The portions are extremely generous and smell delicious. The rice looks and taste mushy to me. Thats my only complaint. But everything else was perfect. Pick up was seamless and we were very happy. We couldn't eat it all so I didn't cook the next day and it was just as tasty. The Meat Combo comes with 1 Chorizo , 1 Chicharron, A Few Pork Ribs, Half a Chicken chopped, and a piece of Bistec Palomilla, all grilled with Steak Fries and Yellow Mushy Rice. A modest looking restaurant that serves up big flavor and big portions is a win in my book. This Colombian place ticks off all the right markers in making it a local fav. Good weather, bbq, Yes Please! We ordered takeout today and I was salivating thanks to the yelp raving reviews. The fam and I ordered lunch and we had the Chicken and Ribs combo! I will say this.... The pork ribs and sweet plantains were GREAT!!! IMO the chicken was a bit dry and lacked flavor and the fries blahhhh. The portions were awesome and we got tons of food for $19. The first time I ever leave a review on any restaurant I know a lot of places Are under staffed and I am well aware of situations and am a very patient person but I waited for my delivery 3 hours. The driver explained that all deliveries going to lyndhurst, Nutley, or any other place for that matter comes first before any deliveries to Newark. This food was unbelievably tasty. Finally not overly salty food but great taste. I got the half order chicken and pork with rice and steak fries surprisingly. I also bought amazing crisp garden salad. I don't care what you order but you must order their potato salad extremely yummy. Pretty good. I tried the Columbia platter last night with my husband. (feeds 4 but we also like to have leftovers). We ordered take out and picked up to eat at home. Comes with so much meat! Chicken, Pork Ribs, Pork Chops, Steak, Chorizo, and Chicharron (pork belly) plus Yellow Rice, Fries, and Maduros (sweet plaintains) Steak is good. Thin cut, but not hard, which is a plus. Chicken good and not dry. not overly moist, but not dry either. Pork chops were good, thinly sliced, so easy to eat, even without a knife. Chorizo is cooked whole, which I'm sure easy. All chorizo have spices, and this was pretty mild, which I think fit with the platter. Personally, i would have sliced it up to serve, but i guess individuals can do that on their own. (I did and mixed it into my rice). My husband snatched up the Chicharron, before realizing that there was only one long piece (partially cut up), so I missed out on this. He said it was good, but not the best he's had. (We make be spoiled b/c my mom makes her chicharron at home from scratch - carving the whole pork belly before marinating and roasting) Pork ribs were good, not too fatty, not too dry. Short - about 4 inches long. good for a combo platter, but I'm used to longer 7-8 inch ribs. Rice is nice and fluffy with a light garlic taste. My husband suspected that it may be cooked in a rice cooker. This was nice and not too starchy - a good variation from the looser rice we get from another bbq spot. The looser rice tends to be more greasy and hardens easily. Some places have peas/carrots in the rice. Columbia does not - but it doesn't make a difference to me. Just noting it for others, in case they care. Steak cut fries - I would have preferred thinner, or shoestring, but they were still crispy - so goo din my book. Maduros were good, but, again, I think that I'm spoiled by mom's cooking, and these could have been sweeter (another day to ripen, or slightly carmelized). Maybe even boil them a bit longer? $34 for the platter (even though website says $29 - they should update) but still not bad for 4 meals! Pretty good for a first time try! Will probably order from again, especially since they are not far from my apt. I can pick up after work, or even have them deliver! We'll be eating the leftovers tonight! P.S. I came to have lunch here today since I work in Bloomfield. First time here and all I can say is WOW! The food is amazing! I ordered the steak with onions, came with rice, french fries but I ordered fried plantain instead of the fries for just $1 more and i also ordered a side of beans. Everything was amazing! Not sure how or why my local favorite BBQ spot isnt a 5 star! Everytime I go, I pretty much order the same, the tray with steak fries, yellow rice, and pork ribs. Lets start with the rice! I need their recipe! The rice is cooked perfectly every time and its got a great unique flavor! I could eat the rice PLAIN...very hard to eat almost any type of rice plain cause it usually has no flavor, or not enough flavor. The fries, delicious...I feel like they dont give enough fries, maybe cause I like them so much, but it leaves more room in the container for the best part...THE RIBS!! The pork ribs are perfectly cooked, perfectly charred, and perfectly flavored! I really can't get enough of them...juicy juicy, not dry at all! On occassion, Ive gotten the combo with chicken/ribs, and Im pretty happen with there chicken...juicy as well and good flavor... Overall, if you're craving some juicy crispy ribs, this is the place to go! So I forgot to add...the prices are VERY reasonable, and damn the portions are great, you get a lot of good food for such a reasonable price! i loved this place. the food is good but the service is terrible and made me not want to even order from there again. i always order the pork rib half platter with just rice for delivery. today i call and order the same order as usual with a $3 2 liter Sprite. the lady on the phone had a spanish accent so i made my girlfriend order in spanish instead so it was easier for her to understand and she still messed up our order. they charged me $21.32 instead of the usual $15.76 so i called again to ask and they said i ordered chicken and fries which is incorrect because it was repeated several times in english and spanish and they said the delivery fee was $5. i ordered 3 days ago and prior to that as well and the fee was always $3. if the platter is $12 and the sprite was $3 plus the $3 delivery fee it should've came out to $19. i said this to a different girl on the phone one who spoke better english and was definitely younger and she said the delivery has always been $5. in the end the girl was extremely inconsiderate and kept speaking over me so i asked for a refund and hung up the phone. never ordering from this place again. order for Santa Luzia it's way better anyway. it's on the same street btw read more
