If you have fond memories of Chicken Delight, your gonna LOVE Chicken Galore! I think once upon a time this actually was a Chicken Delight until the bottom fell out. The Chicken is Moist and delicious with the exact same batter that CD had. The Rib dinners are exactly the same as CD as well. Right down to the dinner roll and little tub of cranberry sauce. Have had buckets upon buckets of food from here for 25 years. Was never disappointed. However.. After the owner passed away his brother took over the place and the chicken pieces went way down in size and cooked to death. Gave 3 more tries in the following months and it was the same disappointment. Have not gone back in 3 years because shoprite fried chicken is never dry and small. If the original recipe and piece size goes back to 2015 standards we would return in a heartbeat. read more

I have been eating here for years from this family owned restaurant. I moved away and still comeback periodically for their chicken--well not any more. This store is just filthy-like not cleaned in years. There is dust on top of closed friers not being used. There is grease all over the counters and caked on the various Knick knacks on display on the counters. Even the slow cookers used in the past for cheese sauce (no longer used) were caked in grease and dust. Not sure why it took so long for me to review this place but I every time I order from there the food is hot and delicious. I remember during the coldest day of this past winter (where they warned everyone to stay inside) I layered up and make the 2 block trek to Chicken Galore for a family dinner to grub on with the roommate and when I got there to pick it up they threw in a free large mashed potatoes. Small things like that and the friendly attitude are what will keep me coming back. Not to mention the place is clean. I cannot believe I'm actually saying this but the place is unbelievably horrible. I am a lifelong resident of kearny. we've been there hundreds of times in my 40 years on this planet and it is gone so far downhill is not even funny. listen the place was never cheap to begin with but they are a ripoff in every sense of the word now the economy is so bad and things cost so much more. the thighs are smaller than I've ever seen in my entire life as well as the wings. the breasts smaller without question and even the legs were smaller than they used to be. the breading is the same but there's not enough of it on there. the ribs have the membrane left inside there were pieces of it that you thought were food but we're nothing more than bone basically. the rib changed or they have another sauce whatever it is that they gave us instead that was barbecue sauce thick sweet disgusting like a hickory kind of a barbecue sauce that you would buy inside how's the supermarket like a shoprite. the rib sauce that you guys all know is much thinner we got none of that we got a couple of the small things of barbecue sauce or whatever they call it. I know they still have that sauce but we didn't get it. it is just so embarrassing how bad they are now. it's almost like the guy gave up. I'm just shocked. utterly shocked I don't want to get into what we ordered besides ribs fries and chicken because I don't want the guy knowing exactly who it is because believe me he will know. But I can tell you this right now. I will never be going back there ever again after all these years. The service at time is slow but the food is amazing . The question is what won't they fry for you, the chicken is super delish . I order from here every once in awhile and I get it delivered. The food is always hot when I receive the delivery and the chicken is just oh my gooodness..... PHENOMENAL!!! My husband loves their fall off the bone ribs and he's very picky....The owners often throw you in little extras as a surprise and the Staff is rushing you on the phone but I know they are so very busy. Wow....Just ordered delivery .... I ordered from a current menu....they also included a menu with my order....my calculations with tax 26.43....delivery guy gets here and tells me its 29.95....??? So I call....ok well the chicken & ribs family special is no longer 21.95...its 22.95...even tho the menu they included in my order states 21.95. And now the delivery charge to Lyndhurst from Kearny is $2.00... There was no delivery charge when I ordered 2 weeks ago. I'm giving them 2 stars because I was a fan of them and hate to just give them one star. Chicken galore and subs galore have been around for as long as I can remember and I'm a Kearny resident of 25 years now, granted I only started eating here about 18 years ago. Their quality has gone sooo far down hill. I used to LOVE their food especially their popcorn chicken. There was something about the popcorn chicken, it was so crunchy and tasted like real chicken. I ordered tonight and all I have to say is frozen chicken or what? They literally taste like the Perdue popcorn chicken you buy in the freezer aisle at shoprite. I also ordered their "beer battered" fish and chips dinner about a month ago and I'm not even exaggerating it was the Gordon's fish that you find in the frozen aisle at shoprite. There was no crunch and it tasted fake and horrible. Not sure why I bothered getting the popcorn chicken tonight but sad to say I'm done with this place. It's such a shame because this and subs galore was the place to be and had the best food! They definitely need to change and go back to their old ways because if I wanted frozen food I'd go buy some at the grocery store. read more
