Shrimp, Mac and cheese and collard greens

My first time eating at Beyond Soul through Uber Eats and it was fantastic! The food was excellent! Everything was prepared perfectly! It was pricey but worth it (not enough food for leftovers). Even with a delivery service, I received my food quickly. I'll definitely be ordering from here again.

So I got everything "plain" cuz I wanted to taste the seasoning before ordering sauces. Moving forward I would likely get the food sauced. The food was super crispy which is good for fried who likes a soggy fry? Lol. Anyway the Mac and cheese was good and the collard greens were too! I'm just happy to get halal soul food near by. I never had a turkey chop before so that was cool. The service for delivery was quick thru their website. I didn't go to the place so not sure about the ambiance there. HALAL!

Beyond Soul was BEYOND PERFECT. All food is zabiha halal, flavorful to the max, soft, tender and juicyyyyyy and the owner is super sweet. The spot is inside a supermarket and there is one large table to enjoy your meal albeit a bit low but hey the more hole in the wall a place, the better the food and the food was indeed mindblowingly good. The BBQ ribs were cut up into pieces which made it so easy to consume and the meat was tender and soft. This was a chunky cow thank god because there was plenty of meat on the bone. I usually hate fat and always take it off but I ate it ALL because it was all just too delicious. It was melt in your mouth and I didn't mind its presence one bit. The BBQ sauce was actually perfect, not too barbecuey and not too sweet. Excellent. Excellent. This Mac and cheese was one of my favorites amongst the plethora of soul food spots I've visited in the past and the Rasta pasta was SPICYYYYY and I LOVED IT. Best Rasta pasta I've had! Got it with some jerk chicken and it was a flavor overload. Chicken was juicy and there was a generous helping over it overtop. The potato salad was a texture I had never seen before, almost puréed which was so intriguing. Even the parmesan fries were killer. Fantastic flavor on everything. I loved how thoughtfully everything was packaged. To prevent any spillage of my potato salad into my Mac or my ribs, there was a piece of parchment paper placed atop and every container was wrapped with plastic wrap to keep it closed. And as I mentioned before my ribs were cut off for easy eating so the extra little step was absolutely noted and appreciated. Open in NYC!!!! Until then I'll be dreaming about the day I can return.

Great place, saw their mobile offering at the JC July 4th event and will try to learn their whereabouts in the future. Sweet tea was great on this hot day. Yes, the fried fish and mac-and-cheese were great, as expected, but perhaps the cabbage was the best item. It definitely has a secret ingredients or two.

I came here for the first time and got a soup. (It was a surprise food item that was purchased ahead of time) The soup was very flavorful and really tasty. It was one of the most flavorful soups I've had in a long time. The soup doesn't look great in the photo, but it's definitely made with love. I'll definitely come back and try a plate!

There are so many ways I wanted to approach writing this review. I decided to make it both short and to the point, but also lengthy and detailed--because why not have the best of both worlds? So, here's my short and to-the-point version: **THE FOOD IS SO GOOD YOU'RE GOING TO WANT TO KIDNAP THE OWNER!** Now, I'm in no way advocating for the abduction of anyone. But in case you do get inspired by the food and decide to go through with it, I have a kitchen you can use as part of your plan--just don't forget to bring me back a plate! Alright, this portion is for those who don't mind reading about my full experience. To everyone else, thank you for stopping by! Now that they've left, let's dive in! Upon entering, I was greeted by a wonderfully happy and polite woman who asked if I was there for a pickup order. I said, "Order!" You know, because I'm not one to turn down a delicious meal. The menu itself is vast, but the first item that caught my eye was lamb chops! The smells wafting from the kitchen had me looking over the menu as if it were a magical scroll. I thought, "I don't know what that is, but I need to have it!" So, I focused and ordered lamb chops with mac and cheese, yams, and a side of potato salad. As I waited, I watched person after person walk in, and the same polite woman greeted everyone with warmth. I thought to myself, "Dang, I really hope this food tastes as good as she is nice!" To my surprise, I later learned that this delightful woman, who was bagging food, taking orders, and greeting everyone, is none other than the owner! Talk about multitasking--she's like the superhero of soul food! Now, onto the food! I took a bite of the lamb first, and let me tell you, it was so well cooked that I could practically hear it whispering sweet nothings in my ear. Seriously, I had six--yes, six!--lamb chops to feast on. Next up were the yams. Man, let me tell you, I took a forkful of yams, and it transported me back to my grandma in her smock and wig, standing at the stove on Thanksgiving. I half expected her to pop out and ask if I wanted seconds! Then came the mac and cheese and potato salad. The taste of the food took me back to my childhood, reminding me of the meals my mom or grandma used to make. This right here was soul food--food that speaks to you when you eat it. It's made with the passion and love of nurturing whoever dares to indulge in it. If you want some good food that speaks to your soul, don't walk--RUN--to "Beyond Soul Food." This place truly explains the difference between soul food and Southern food with the love and care she puts into every dish. After all, good food is like a good friend: it lifts your spirits and leaves you wanting more!

Its English name comes from a Greek legend: Zeus had an affair with a beautiful woman named Io. When Hera, his wife, discovered his infidelity, she turned Io into a cow and created a horsefly to sting her on the rump. Io jumped clear across the strait. Thus, "bous" = "cow" and "poros" = "crossing place": Bosphorus = "crossing place of the cow." Located off of busy Franklin Avenue in Nutley, my partner, our friends, and I have decided on our dinner at this family-owned-and-run BYOB establishment, which has been open since 1995. A reservation was made for a party of 4 by calling their restaurant. Upon arrival after three years, we were welcomed by Nora, the owner, and made our way to a table by the piano inside, evoking a cozy, thoughtfully designed, upscale vibe with music playing softly. Their menu features Turkish and Mediterranean cuisine. For starters, we decided on the Puffed Rill Pastry and Grape Leaves. Our main meal consisted of all lamb dishes (Lamb Shish Kebab, Beyti Kebab, Lamb Chops, and Lamb Sauté). Our food was fresh, well seasoned, and cooked to perfection, accompanied by a beautifully presented dish. Everything was authentically made with love here. Wish we could have stayed for dessert, as they looked amazing, but some of us were in a rush. It's definitely on the higher end cost but worth the taste. Our visit ended with a hug and a piece of candy.

3 stars for portion sizes that are enough to feed you for a whole day…read more.. Soo I was craving a chicken and rice platter drenched in white sauce. I know there's a million Halal spots popping up, and I will admit I'm very, very picky when it comes to platters. I miss the good ol' days on 53rd street in NYC... I came by around 10pm and was served quickly by a friendly employee. They have platters, burgers, wraps, wings, chicken tenders, fries, etc. I ordered the chicken rice platter (~$13.50). They cook the meat fresh on the grill and then you choose your toppings at the salad bar (olives, onions, peppers, tomatoes, etc.). It's a bit pricier than other places, but the portion size is huge. The container felt HEAVY lol. It's just a shame it went to waste because I really didn't enjoy the food. I only finished about half of it before I tossed the rest. The white sauce was almost flavorless and was VERY watery. The chicken wasn't as well-seasoned. No distinct spices or aroma. Every bite left me with a very greasy and salty taste in my mouth. The side salad was just okay. I was disappointed. The only saving grace was the rice... it was fluffy and the best part of the whole platter. Not sure if I came on an off night or...? Don't let my review stop you from trying. It might just not be the Halal spot for me.

(He got me a mixed platter) The portion size is big enough for SHREK. The price was perfect for a gambling degenerate like myself. Don't think twice, just go. This is definitely a place to bring your side piece... your main girl will never know. Unless your main girl is a TJ MAXX shopper, that's right across the street, in that case be cautious taking your side piece here.
