The presentation of the food was excellent as well with a smoke show. The food was incredible too. I followed the reviews and got the smoked chicken which was a great choice. We also got the ribs and brisket. I definitely liked the brisket more than the ribs in case you are looking to make a choice. I got their special fries and I absolutely loved them. They were so lemony and garlicky. They have sauces that they serve with the food and some that are on the table as well. I think the sauces are definitely necessary. The meat is delicious but mildly seasoned. I live a bit far and I loved the food so much that I got brisket and smoked chicken to go as well. The brisket makes such an amazing sandwich with some sriracha aioli and cheese. The service was excellent throughout. We have been dying to make it here and so glad we did finally! There is a small parking lot to the side of the restaurant otherwise it's street parking (all free parking). We arrived on a Saturday the place was absolutely packed but we were seated within about 5 minutes. We were seated right near the smokers and it was so cool to watch them prepare each dish. The presentation here is phenomenal as is the quality of all the meat here. A fresh salad with oil was brought complimentary to the table and it was delicious. We ordered the Buffalo smoked chicken wings and Baba-Ghanoj for appetizers. The chicken wings were so tender that as you picked them up the meat literally fell off the bone! The sauce was subtle but had a nice Buffalo kick at the end. The baba-ghanoj was served cold and was perfect with a little sprinkle of salt. The fresh pitas paired perfectly with it. I'm glad I did my research on this spot as everyone recommended the fresh mint lemonade. Wow amazing and refreshing I love that it came out as a slushy like consistency. I could easily drink them all day and they're probably amazing to eat outside in the warmer months and enjoy. We each ordered the meat platters in 1lb portions which are served with fresh smoked rice that is so good and filling. I wanted the beef shank but sadly they were out and ordered the smoked beef short rib. They served everything on a platter for us which the presentation I must say is outstanding . My boyfriend ordered the smoked brisket and it was so tender and flavorful he kept saying "it's terrible you won't like it because he didn't want to share it at all LOL". We had no room for dessert but I cannot wait to return for our next dinner date night! I would definitely give it 4/5 stars. Nothing was terrible the only complaints I had is once we were seated and our order was taken our server asked if we want appetizers first which we said yes and everything came out at once. Which is fine not terrible just our table was packed and hard to eat. Additionally once our food came out it was hard to get anyone's attention for more drinks but it was no too much of an issue that it ruined the night as they were definitely way too busy and seemed to be short staffed. The place itself is not the prettiest to sit at but the food is amazing. The meat is really moist. Falls off the bone. They also just walk around giving free corn on the cob. Love it. Beef on beef on beef! Great spot to enjoy a one of a kind meal. This Middle Eastern spot also caters to be a BBQ joint by specializing in a unique technique for cooking beef ribs. The rib itself comes out tender and juicy with lots of sauces on the side to dip in... sooooo yummy! Everything here was delicious, even their mint lemonade. The appetizers were tasty as well, and plenty of pita bread to go with it. Service was pleasant and server was always around to accommodate. Had a great lunch here. The food is a little on the pricey side (especially for lunch), but its delicious. It was fairly empty when we dined there, and the food took a while to come out... I think around 30-40min. They did bring out some complimentary appetizers while we waited, including a fairly large bowl of hummus, so that was nice. The food itself was amazing. I'm really into bbq, and I thought that the quality of the smoked meat here was legit. Very tender (especially the beef ribs). And the rubs were really flavorful. Each dish came with a few different sauces. Portions are fairly large so we had leftovers. Note that they do not serve tap water, so its bottle water or drinks only. We ordered a mint drink which was delicious, although a little expensive for what it was. Also they do have a credit card fee. Staff was very friendly. I had a good friend recommend this restaurant to me and said that the dining experience would be pretty fantastic. And so, I decided to make my way Kanoon to try out some of their middle Eastern cuisine. When I arrived to the location of the restaurant, I found it pretty difficult to find parking, but with a little bit of patience, I was able to find a parking spot little over a block away. Please note that this restaurant has very limited parking in its small parking lot. And that also this is a very popular place for families and gets pretty busy during typical service hours. But that should not deter you from visiting this establishment! Anyway, let's talk about the restaurant's service and food. Upon entering the restaurant, me and my companion were greeted happily at the door, with the most wonderful, smiling host. After exchanging pleasantries, we were ushered to our table given menus and our drink orders taken. After reviewing the menu, we were decided on what we were going to have for appetizers and for our main course. When our waiter came back with our drinks, he also brought back some complementary salads and a basket of pita bread. After happily receiving our meal order, the waiter was kind enough to give us some suggestions on the smoked rice dishes that were available. And so we chose to add both of the rice options that were available to our meal just to try them out. So, as we waited for our entrées to arrive, we started enjoyed our salad and babaghanoush, and then all the sudden the lights dimmed in the restaurant and music started playing. It was a freaking pirate technic show that started behind the barbecue pit! At first, it caught me off guard, but then I started getting into it. As you well know the whole restaurant pulled out their phones and started recording the scene. I just found this to be an opportunity to devour most of the babaghanoush while my companion was distracted! Anyway, during the show our entrées had arrived and it was time to dig in! Let me tell you, I found all the food to be delicious. This style of barbecue meats is unreal and definitely worth trying. Both the Beef short ribs shank was so tender and falling off the bones. The night started with us ordering their Ramadan special, two people for 100.00 with the choice of two meats along with sides and appetizers and a lovely in-house tamarind juice. Pitas come warmed in plastic bags; tons of sauces that come with your choice of meat-- but the food is fresh, robust and affordable, and the service low-key and friendly. He threw in an order of a salad for my wait and offered coffee. They definitely do value customers. I ordered off the lunch menu (14.99 each); ordered the chicken chops with smoked rice and a half chicken with smoked rice. The food was good but I think the chicken needed more seasoning. It was VERY tender and well cooked. I did appreciate that but I think if it had a little more seasoning within the meat it would have been perfect. I would go back. Also, with the chicken chops there was some garlic sauce and that tasted so goood in the rice. Came here for a guys night recently and it did not disappoint! Note the website says BYO but they do not allow alcohol inside in case you were thinking of bringing a bottle. The mint lemonade is absolutely fantastic and the waiters kept bringing it out to all the tables so we knew we made the right decision in ordering it. Crisp and refreshing! Their hummus has got to be some of the best I've ever tasted. Make sure to order as an appetizer..we also ordered the sausages which pretty good as well. The wings were so garlicky and flavorful and so I'd recommend that as well. For the mains we had the lamp chops, smoked meat platter, the mixed grill, and a pound of the brisket. They were all delicious, except for the brisket. I thought it was a bit dry for my taste but not terrible just not as good as the other dishes. I'll admit, it's been a few years since I went, but what I had was ok. The quality and presentation are VERY good. The staff and cooks clearly put care and effort into what they make. The execution though when it came to the bite...that was a bit lacking. Meats were unbearably dry at times, and not evenly seasoned and flavored. Some of the sides also were lacking. I saw this on TikTok by several influencers and shared it with my friends and family. We decided to go to Kansan in Clifton, NJ from NYC only see the restaurant is "CLOSED FOR RENOVATIONS". I thought maybe I made a mistake so checked the website and it said OPEN. Nowhere on the website it states closed for renovation. This place is amazing! The staff is welcoming. The interior design of this place is unique unlike any other bbq joints around here. I stopped off in here two times for lunch in back to back week. The first time I went to Kanoon I bought their brisket platter. It came over a bed of rice and three sauces on the side. The brisket was tender and very delicious. The second time I went to Kanoon I bought their smoked chicken chops platter which game with yellow rice, a fresh salad and three sauces. For $12.99 you can't beat these deals for lunch. This review is a few weeks late. I ordered catering from Kanoon's for my daughter's HS graduation. We had approx 20 people in the house. First of all, the price came out to approx. $25 a head w/plenty of leftovers for people to take and for us to enjoy the next day. Second, the food was a hit!! Personally, I look forward to eating at the restaurant soon. You should also know that the service was incredible from start to finish. I put my order in over the phone while the owner was obviously busy. However, not one thing got screwed up, lol. On the day of pick up, I couldn't believe how much food they gave me. I love seeing unusual halal places and this place fits the bill. Excellent smokehouse with great meat. We had smoked lamb shoulder. We were afraid it would be dry but it was surprisingly soft and juicy. I'm also glad they didn't put too much sauce. The chicken wings were amazing (and they had a lot of nice sauce) and I usually don't like wings. You also have to get their fresh mint lemonade. We'll definitely go back to try other items on the menu. The service was also great. Our server was good and honest with his recommendations and when we needed something, we received that item pretty quickly. I really hate to do this to a Muslim establishment. But I've got to be honest. Quite frankly, the food isn't good. We ordered the smoked wings. It's literally boiled wings that they throw a bunch of bbq sauce on and put it on the hot platter and present it to you. We ordered the lamb chops that are 44/lb. But you automatically have to get a pound and 1/2 which came out to $77. I don't mind ti pay if it's good. But it had NO flavor. Completely bland. I will say however, the meat was very tender. My husband and I went and the bill came out to $150. One appetizer, two mint lemonades, one hot green tea and the lamb chops. I'll be honest, I won't be going back. Highlights of this restaurant: The smoked lamb shoulder and the smoked buffalo wings. Just wow. Home-runs! Food: We ordered the following: The cold mezza platter, smoked buffalo wings, 1lb of brisket, 1lb of short ribs, and 1lb of aged ribeye steak. The brisket was solid, so was the short ribs, and the aged ribeye steak was great too. My complaint would be the meat is dry. Definitely needs a lot of bbq sauce on the side and other condiments. Service: The waiters were definitely overwhelmed because the restaurant was packed, but they were super attentive and checked up on us at a great cadence! Got there and seemed like they were surprised to have someone walk in and want to order. They also looked annoyed that I was going to order at 12:10pm when they open at 11:30. When we arrived I came in and someone took my phone number down and said it would be 30 mins. They called us within that time. The place isn't that big, but it was packed. They do a good job advertising on social media and really lured ppl in. So how did they do? Owner greeted my father in law right away and was able to connect and welcome them (big plus for Palestinian parents). He continued to check on us and make sure everything was ok. He even asked for honest feedback and we felt he was very genuine in wanting constructive criticism. Ambiance was head on. It smelt smoky inside, they have these cool torches they torch food with in the open part of the kitchen. And the bustling Arab families all over made it a family friendly place. Appetizers - we got the wings which were AMAZING. The sauce was so flavorful and the chicken meat literally fell off the bone. We also got the sausages which were cut into slices and fried, and loaded fries which had cheese and pieces of meat. The fries could have used some more cheese. My 11 year old asked for hummus and devoured it. We ordered an extra one to take home because she loved it so much. They provide salad and pita bread at the table (so Arab but not necessary for a smokehouse- but I dig the fusion). Main course - Unfortunately they were out of lamb so we couldn't try that. We ordered 2 lbs beef ribs and 1 lb brisket. The meat was tender and Smokey - but not as flavorful as I would have hoped for. I asked for extra BBQ sauce and that helped. They should increase the amount of BBQ sauce on the meat maybe. We got the rice and burghal sides- burghal was bland but the rice was flavorful. I want to see more traditional smokehouse sides (Mac n cheese, potatoes, etc.). Service - I would say they get an A. Everyone was attentive and welcoming despite how busy the restaurant was. Other - there's only one bathroom (keep in mind for kids that need to go right away) but they have extra sinks outside the bathroom to wash hands. We were at this place over the weekend. The reservation system is now operational. So once we checked in through a QR code, we got a text that we followed until we were asked to come in for seating. We ordered several dishes, including smoked lamb, Smoked beef, mixed platter, fries that are Chef'Special, and a few other things. Overall, the smoked meat is probably the best smoked meat I have had. The seating area is a little bit crowded so it makes it fairly noisy, as well as cozy. We will definitely return, however, the smoked meat is not something that is for everyone. Prices are a bit higher than what I pay at other restaurants in the area.
