Every time someone says Portuguese style barbecue I feel all giddy on the inside. Why do I react this way? Well I tell you why--it's because any BBQ makes a man feel like a man. Portuguese BBQ makes you feel like a Portuguese man...think Cristiano Ronaldo level. Okay maybe that's too extreme but nonetheless Portuguese style 'cue is still the best. Unfortunately Master BBQ & Grill does not do it justice--at least not as great as I would expect. I've ordered two kinds of barbecue from this place thus far: chicken and shell steak. Both were a full order meaning a whole tray that comes with rice and beans or rice and French fries. Portion size is the typical humongous fare that these types of places are known for. Flavor wise it checks off all the right marks. Execution however is left to be desired. What do I mean you say? Well for one thing a restaurant who calls themselves "master" at anything should not overcook anything. The shell steak was not the way I would want it to be. It was getting to the point of becoming rubbery. Thankfully it wasn't and some juices from the meat still remained and made the dish enjoyable. I couldn't say the same about the chicken though. I don't know if it's just me but a place that serves dry chicken really upsets me. Come on people chicken is one of the most versatile and EASY to cook meat out there. How can you serve it dry! Thankfully the barbecue flavor was present and with the quintessential hot sauce drenching it I still found the chicken delicious. I just couldn't get over the fact that they had overcooked it. Anyways let me move on then. This restaurant serving up some Portuguese barbecue has some room to certainly improve. There is nothing wrong with the flavor of their dish; it's simply their execution. Given the proximity of other competing barbecue places in the area, I think they should consider my point of view. With a little work those three stars might eventually move up to a four. Just received my 2 full orders of snapper and rice. I don't do this to disparage but I must be honest. The fish tasted like it wasn't properly cleaned because it still had a fishy taste to it. It was also unseasoned and bland. The rice tasted like box rice, no flavour at all. And the both the beans and fries were a major let down. To start with, the chicken and ribs combo is a meal for two for my size. They serve this with salad that is more than enough for an appetizer. I found the dish very good and meat is not dry. They have this hot sauce at the table that they use but I suggest to ask for the house made special hot sauce created by one of the guys there named Rudy. Ok, I ordered from here a total of 4 times over the last month and a half. Two out of the 4 times there was hair in our food!!! Ugh yuck. The first time it happened it was a black hair in the rice and I should have never gave them another chance after that. This time, after he delivery guy tried to deliver the food to the wrong house, I bite into an empanda and there is a long red hair that got tangled in my teeth. Beyond disgusting. Used to be good, changed ownership awhile back, now sucks. Don't bother. Three strikes later I will not be going back. First strike was a 2 hour delivery that they kept telling me was on the way, the driver calls me up and starts speaking in spanish, which guess what I don't speak. Someone from the counter called me and said that he was on my block and couldn't find my house. There is 20 houses on my block with no car in sight. Eventually makes it to my house and starts yelling at me because he won't accept a tip on the credit card (to which never was a problem before). Second strike had my credit card charged 4x for the same order to which they paid back the difference in cash and blamed a part time worker. Strike three was waiting at the counter for my dinner and a fight between a customer and the little guy behind the counter. Unless they had a really bad day, I assume it was the same review/person with today's date. Anyway, after that guy stormed out, someone behind the counter had the nerve to say "stupid americans". I don't know how I allowed these clowns to take my money for so long and apologize for keeping these a55holes in business any longer than they should be.
