Such a wonderful little treat my family and I happened to stumble upon today in Nutley, NJ. My family and I were helping out some locals with a job and we got hungry for lunch. We asked some people nearby for a reasonably priced seafood spot and we were told to try out Stephanie's. I was skeptical at first because the restaurant priced itself on bbq meats and since today is Good Friday, Catholics abstain from meat to commemorate Christ's' sacrifice on the cross. It sounded like we'd be better off heading somewhere else, however the locals who were also Christian insisted on the spot. Thankfully we gave it a try and it was absolutely worth the price and travel to try it out. It was a cute and festive interior and honestly a really cool hidden gem. I was extremely content with the portioning and quality and flavors I was given on my plate. The seasoned olive oil with fried garlic on the side was literally put on everything by family and I. 100% recommend. Next time I'll be back for regular bbq'd meats! read more

Portuguese-style barbecue, with charcoal-grilled meats fish, and chicken, beef ribs, and skirt steak, along with sides like rice, beans, veggies, and fries, and appetizers such as empanadas. Made the mistake of making this place an option. First off there's no parking so I couldn't go in and order, location is terrible, and when I called and attempted to order, the lady on the phone was so bothered and rude that she had to explain something on her menu. The question was, "how much are your shrimp-kabobs and how many do they come with?" So I decided not to get the kabobs because I was looking for more of a personal lunch and said "never mind I'll get something smaller on the menu" and she sighed and hung up on me...... This place popped up on seamless so we decided to order takeout. We ordered the steak combo with chicken and steak, a side of black beans and fries. And we also ordered sweet plantains, chicken soup for my baby (not pictured), and cookies and cream (not pictured). For one, our beans didn't end up coming, but the restaurant refunded us, with no issues. The sweet plantains were pretty good, they tasted like standard sweet plantains. The empanadas were probably the best part of the meal, the chicken empanada was delicious, the cheese one was decent. The grilled chicken was also good, but the steak was not. It was too chewy and had no flavor at all. And the only sauce that came was tabasco, which isn't the yummiest sauce and didn't add much flavor. My son's chicken soup was okay, the soup was too runny, it didn't have much chicken. For dessert, we tried the cookies and cream, it was like a Maria biscuit, with heavy whipping cream. It was okay, kind of plain and uninspired. The overall value for this place was not good, it was such little food for the price that was paid. Finally stopped here after passing this place a thousand times. It's always smelled very good. I got the garlic shrimp. I love Brazilian garlic shrimp and this one was very good. The rice and fries on the side were good. The shrimp was nice and garlicky. The service was friendly and fast. Got takeout but there are some tables inside if you would like to dine in. We ordered in a few nights ago from Stephanie's and I was impressed. The chicken and rib combo was very good. The chicken was seasoned and cooked right. The rice and beans were absolutely delicious. Super authentic flare to them and also cooked perfectly. Fluffy rice and the beans were super tender. The only downside was the empanadas we ordered to go along with the meal. They were terrible. Skip these. They were just filled with potatoes. We got a chicken and a beef to try and both were just potato filling. They have a ton of good appetizers to choose from so stay clear of these. We finally made it here on a strong recommendation by a close friend. Very small establishment on the corner with little parking. So parking is rough but stay parking is around. We got our order to go being that it was a busy weekend and we don't live far and wanted to rest. Order was just ready as I got there. People inside were great. I parked on the street. No big deal. Transaction went very smooth. We got the BBQ combo (which was supposed to feed 4 people). Came with chicken, sausage, beef ribs and pork ribs. You pick 2 sides, so we went with rice and beans. I also ordered an extra side of hot sauce. Food was excellent. Very tasty and perfectly done. Only thing was, there's no way this is for four people. There was me and my wife, our 18 year old and our 10 year old. I can eat and pick up their slack, but for four adults, this wouldn't be enough. I just want to add that the hot sauce was very good. Not too hot and very tasty. Luckily...... our 10 year old is a big steak connoisseur. So he got the skirt steak, which him and our 18 year old shared. I stole a piece of that and it was solid. Very tasty and perfectly cooked. For their sides, they went with double fries. We also got bbq wings since we get wings from everywhere we go. The wings were the only thing that was average at best. We ordered take out, the half order 6 ribs was tender and delicious. Came with 2 sides I got boiled potatoes and steamed vegetables. Very fresh vegetables. Our second order was sausage with rice and vegetables. Full order was 6 sausages. Our Third order Salmon and shrimp with sides buttered rice and black beans. I decided on ordering the Crispy Chicken Bowl with rice and beans which seemed relatively conservative to just test out the waters. The rice and beans were OK but the chicken was very bland and dry. There was no amount of condiments to save it. Considering the price point which is also inflated due to Uber Eats (19.99 not including other fees) I found myself being dissatisfied. There was no redeeming quality that would persuade me to order from them again at this point in time. I agree with another reviewer who says they are cutting the ribs in half. I ordered a half order of ribs with beans and rice as sides. Of the 6 ribs in the order, two were actually the ends of ribs (the part with just cartilage and fat) and the other four were rather small (probably cut in half). This isn't a cheap dish to get what is probably 3 ribs. So disappointed! I realize we are going through tough times, but this just isn't right. Sadly I won't be ordering again. read more

Tried out this place for lunch by default. Many restaurants nearby were closed for the holiday week (Labor Day). Though it was not a planned trip, it was worth the effort. Service was nice/efficient and it was not busy. I had the BBQ chicken and steak combo with yellow rice and black beans and could barely make it through half. The sauce (homemade?) was amazing! And I can say the same for the hot sauce. I assumed the beans would be baked but were not and the rice was a microwave-ish tasting. I would not order the steak again (only prepared one way- well done) but would get the chicken! I'm from the south so expect a lot with my barbecue but this was not half bad. I would return again but probably not for dinner over lunch. Management suggestions: Get wet naps or paper towels for customers to clean their sticky hands after their meal.
