As someone who is currently on a 165-day streak with Duolingo learning Italian I do believe I'm uniquely qualified to review this place. (Hey - I already know "torta" is 'cake' and 'zucchero' is 'sugar', okay?!) Aromi is small but there's plenty of goodies to pick from - a slew of desserts, some (top-notch) breads, and assorted odds and ends (drinks, fresh balls of muzz). They seem to fumble from idea (mini jars of Nutella on top of the Nutella muffin/cupcake... brilliant!) to execution (dry cake, overly sweet topping). On my most recent visit the carrot cake and red velvet (among others) suffer from being a bit too sugary and one-note. Every few years I seem to find my way back here (usually when an upcoming holiday or party is upon me) and it's always fine but not memorable (enough). A tad bit expensive, yes. The staff are always friendly (maybe because they can tell I know that 'tiramisu' is "tiramisù" in Italian... how about that?) and do their best to keep the line moving. (The bakery happens to be attached at the hip to the almighty Queen Margherita Trattoria - a most excellent Italian restaurant.) Godere! Fruire! The pastries here are really good, however, Don't order a custom cake. I ordered one for a co-worker for her birthday. I asked for the borders to be pistachio green. Instead I got this bright green, with horrible writing, and the roses were not what I asked for either. I showed them a picture of dual colored roses, so it should have been green with yellow accents. Well, I got a green and yellow. Inside is supposed to be chocolate mousse with raspberry. I go to this place all the time as my bakery of choice. They not only have great everything, but the people there are the best too. One time I came near closing and they gave me extra bread on the house, love them. I have been to DiNapoli many times and had been happy with the pastries up until yesterday. I asked for a 7 layer cake and they did not have any in the case out front. Ordered my first cake from here for my husband's birthday. Had a grumpy toddler and sick husband in the car during pick up. I glanced at the cake which I ordered over the phone and said, "it looks great" and grabbed it to go. When I got home, we looked at carefully and realized it said "Nape" not "Nate". We had a good laugh about it but I'm not sure how Nape seemed more like a real name than Nate. So I went in on Christmas Day, having worked in a bakery myself I already felt terrible but they were open till 2pm and my friend and I decided to stop in and get some goodies. As I walked in my eyes and nose went straight to the stuffed breads that had just come out of the oven. ONE OF EACH PLEASE. I decided to get the smaller pieces, which are 3 dollars each and so worth it. There's broccoli and cheese, olive and cheese, pepperoni and cheese and sausage peppers. All of them are beyond stuffed as well, which for 3 dollars is such a great deal. They have the big ones which I believe are around 12 dollars. Pastries, where do I start? I got a small box of 5. TORRONE! Covered in chocolate! Omg! They also had one dipped in a pistachio cream that I'll try next. Creme brûlée! The best I've ever had. I also got an eclair, it was ok. Not the best. A chocolate cookie cake with hazelnut cream too, those were mediocre. Cannolis. Delicious. I also got a cannoli cake slice which was perfect. Aromi Di Napoli is my local go-to Italian bakery. Whenever I'm in need for a cake or pastries, I turn to Aromi. Recently, ordered the Caramel Apple Walnut Cheesecake for Thanksgiving, which everyone loved. We have also enjoyed their Carrot Cake. Their pastries are delicious especially their cannolis, mini tarts, and sprinkle cookies which are my kids' fav. One cake i would pass on is the Nutella cake which did not have much of the choco hazelnut flavor I was expecting. It's ok since they have many more desserts to choose from. The service is friendly and the turnover is high so you know the goods are fresh. I can always count on Aromi di Napoli. read more

As a Nutley resident i have frequented this place for years. Today i went in for bread and was left waiting 15 minutes while the only counter girl very slowly and care free took a cake order over the phone. I saw the owner and approached him to let him know i had been waiting and needed to leave for an appointment. He told me "have a nice day and don't come back, your too special." WTF what? This guy clearly doesn't not care about customer service or respecting paying customers. We need to seriously boycott this place. That was completely outrageous and uncalled for! The third time I went, I called before and was there within 30 mins. Customer is never right apparently at this store. Withheld a cake from my 89 year old grandmother. She sat and waited for a half hour for a cake that was already pre-ordered. When she got up to ask for the cake the worker said what cake are you talking about. Workers pay no attention to the customers. I would suggest to never come here, and never order a brownie, or a cannoli and ESPECIALLY NOT the Lava Cake. Just don't. Mostly because all other baked goods will be ruined and your addiction to sugar will be cemented and the next thing you know, all your money is being spent on cavities and diet pills. BUT, if you promise to not be as addicted as I am, then I guess you can come. I love baked goods and just the choice of going in and hand picking a few smaller pasteries and tarts to taste is one of my absolute favorite things to do during non-bikini season months. In case you haven't figured it out yet, I love their chocolate good more than anything, although the fruit tarts are fought for in my family as well. They also sell non-desert stuff like stuffed breads and ....who cares, come here for desert! It's adjacent to a small restaurant that is always packed, so I haven't had a chance to eat there yet. But I know it has to be delcious because it's usually a ton of old Italians and you know that generation does not play games about their food. They don't have a parking lot, but there is a decent amount of parking in the area, you may have to walk a block or so, but nothing terrible. For some reason, this bakery comes highly recommended by many locals. I have yet to determine why. I never rate anything on only one try. There are too many factors that effect performance, taste and/or wait times. I've been here three times. The customer service is abysmal. There was no one there any of the times, so it's not like it was busy. The girls were bored, uninterested and stuck in slow motion. Questions were answered with mild annoyance. I had the same experience with an older woman there as well. Quality of the deserts and pastries is questionable. They tasted stale. EVERY TIME. The chocolate is not good - at all. I mean, how does an Italian bakery mess up Tiramisu and Cannolis? The cannoli isn't even filled all the way through (see photos). Needless to say I won't be giving it a fourth try. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. I drove from Pennsylvania to get some good cannolis and some linzer tarts, the linzer tarts were fine but the cannolis were a god damn sin. Seriously, they did not taste right at all. I spent over $30 on 12 of the worst cannolis literally ever made. The texture of the shell and the filling was completely off and the filling tasted almost like lemon. They're the size of my pinky finger and I'd honestly rather eat my own finger than one of these cannolis ever again. The baker is going to hell for even calling what they sold me a cannoli. Do not buy them, they're overpriced and you could probably buy a better cannoli at a gas station. read more
