We recently moved to the area and were looking for a decent bakery to get sweets from. We are so delighted to have found this gem. We have picked up multiple cakes for birthday and anniversary events from this bakery. The smell of bread and sugar can be smelled walking towards the store. There is always a line of people here waiting to get their goodies. My chocoholic little one who loves to try out chocolate lava cake from different restaurants and bakeries, thinks that this place has the best one! Very moist and indulgent! I have not seen very many bakeries that make the "Brown Derby" cake. It is chocolatey, yet light and refreshing with the fruit. They have a deli counter, but we have yet to try any of the items there, as we always walk out of there with many cookies and other treats. But, we will one day. read more

With all the old guard now in the history books I began searching for a new reliable bakery. Very first visit here and... I was on the fence. Second visit... okay, I'm a fan. Subsequent visits... actually I'm a big fan. From red velvet cookies to Sfogliatella to carrot cake - they have more than enough treats to quell your sweet tooth. The breads (the reason I find myself here most times) - incredible. Rolls (of varying sizes) as well as a damn perfect bastone (crunchy and flaky, ready to be piled high for a sandwich) not to mention... the almighty Pizza Bread?! Oh, yeah. A bit more rare to find but the only proper 'pane' if/when you're going to make an Italian hot dog. They also have a side/section with a full deli if savory is more your speed. Cool staff. Good pricing. Metered street parking but be warned... this one specific street feels more like a strip mall - with probably a dozen businesses (liquor stores to salons to fitness centers to a few restaurants to...) - all vying for those spots. (And if you ever need an icebreaker at a social gathering... tell 'em "da Vinci" wasn't actually Leonardo's last name. You're sure to be a hit at the party!) read more

I was able to sample a couple items from this spot as I did not attend. They did have deli sandwiches besides just all baked goods. I had a St. Joseph pastry with cannoli cream as well as a custard filing. The one with custard filing had some type of fruit topping as well. Both were great. The pastries as a whole were light while there was plenty of filing in each one. Neither cannoli cream nor custard were too sweet either. They were also of appropriate size. Will I go back? I thought they were the best bakery in NJ and, while their cakes, cookies and pastries are still some of the freshest and most delicious, the size of the pastries have shrunk considerably. Along with the high cost per item, this is very unfortunate! I've noticed this in a few recent visits. Their napoleon and their brownies, for example, both seem to be just a little larger than 2" squares. C'mon! Don't do this to your loyal customers! We deserve better!! I'm a huge Calandra's fan, but DaVinci gives them a run for their money! My father absolutely loves coming here weekly for treats. While I think they make great desserts and bread, I've had better. It's still a family go to and staff is super sweet. Their cheesecake had a lingering powdered sugar flavor after each bite. I might be off, but I prefer a cream cheesier NY style. The ongoing pandemic has definitely taken a toll on a lot of businesses and public places since a consumer's mindset to buy anything outside of essentials or to visit a public place like a park or beach, has crippled down significantly. Now by living with what has become the new normal, it is commendable on how these businesses and public places continue to remain open and cater to the general public by following the safety standards. It is now all the more important that we as customers, support these heroes during these dark hours to mankind. This is a great bakery in a very residential place like Nutley. The first time I got a chance to eat something from here was when my wife got a Creme brûlée from here and it was out of the world. That made me wanted to try out this place and in person. We visited this shop on Saturday along with our relative who was visiting us, the day after Black Friday just before the store closure. The shop was well-dressed with Christmas decors and gave a complete Holiday mood. The desserts were a treat for the eyes possibly featuring all colors picked from a color palette. We ordered a Creme brûlée, Tiramisu and a Cannoli. We had given a lot of hopes and buildup for the desserts that we started tasting the desserts while driving back home. The Creme brûlée was good but the Tiramisu was a total let down. It tasted close to being stale and we could not carry on with it anymore and the cannoli was pretty ordinary too. It was a total let down after taking an effort to impress the guest. The shop is usually a good bet on the money and that day was an odd experience. May be it's just an one time experience but I hope they can get back to what they do the best and rectify on what went wrong. read more

I need to admit, that I personally have not had the chance to step foot inside this bakery, but my FiL gets all our baked goods from here for the past 2 years. So I HAVE eaten cakes, pastries, cookies, and breads from here 25 + times. We used to go to Calandra's in Newark, but their quality, service, and care has gone down, while their prices have skyrocketed. A family member recommended this place, and we have been coming here ever since! If you need any baked good, this is your place, even if you are not local! Their breads are super fresh! We get the both the long and sandwich rolls here all the time. Flaky and delicious. Their cannoli's are killer as well! Not too sweet, just perfect. For every event that we have, we get 3-5lbs of assorted pastries from here, and by now, I have probably tried at least 1/3 of them, and they are all amazing! You can see the care and effort that the bakers put into each one. They are not just mass produced. Sadly I am terrible at the names of most of the pastries... But the ones I tried are great. For Easter, their Italian pies and breads are the best that I've ever had!!! We got 1lb last year and 3 this year and it still wasn't enough lol! The cookies from here are great as well. They are always a hit every time we get them. All in all, if you need baked goods, this place is the place! read more

Tried this place out for my bf's mom's bday back in August and have been getting cakes there for every special occasion since!! My favorite so far is the strawberry shortcake for sure. They have some fresh cakes prepped and ready to go daily in the fridge at the front or you can call ahead and ask for something more extravagant. One time they even accommodated my request to have a cake ready a day earlier due to a change of plans. It was fine when we picked it up but was cracked when we had to take pictures. Ok I spend way too much time in bakeries but this place deserved a review. First impression is the cleanliness......the bakery appeared spotless. The kid behind the counter was friendly and patient when I wasn't ready to order right away. I got a black and white cookie and a chocolate mousse pastry and both were very good and tasted fresh. I also got a French roll which was nice and fresh even though it was late afternoon. The bakery is located in a strip mall....if it wasn't for Yelp I probably never would have found it. The bakeries in Nutley and Belleville are so-so but I may have found a go to spot. They have a deli which I will try in the future. Its a very nice bakery, the bread is great and the pastries,pies and cakes are just above average, but................. if you're not walking there forget it!! There is ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING in that entire area 24/7. There are far too many businesses in that area for the amount of available parking. There are other quality bakeries in Nutley where you don't have to circle like a buzzard waiting for someone to leave and hoping nobody grabs the spot. And to add insult to injury......you have to feed a meter (typical Nutley). I had to pass it by again today at 1:00 p.m. on a Tuesday....NO PARKING. I needed some bread to go with all my soup lunches and did not want to stand in line to get into ShopRite for one item, and standing 6 feet apart in line outside doesn't do much good when people are less than a foot away from you in the store. Kind of backwards. Anyway, I remembered someone mentioning the name of this bakery to me over a year ago (talking about how good their sandwiches are) so I Googled it and found that it was a 15-20 min walk from my house. I've been up and down Centre St many times but never noticed this place. It's in a row of shops and they all kind of look alike when you go by. Right now it's limited to 4 customers at a time in the bakery so you have plenty of room between you and everyone else, which is exactly how it should be. First, this place is eat off the floor clean. The level of clean that only your grandmother could ever seem to hit. The selection was insane. I wanted to spend $200 buying about 50 different things but I can only imagine how many calories are in all those delicious looking items ... so I ended up getting only what I came for, bread. It was delicious. You could tell that it was only a couple of hours old. I'm going to eventually go back for other things. I'm so happy I found this place. In reading some of the unhappy customer reviews, this place really strikes me as the kind of place that wants patrons to be happy and would replace whatever you were unsatisfied with. I mean it's a bakery ... if your cookie was stale they can easily give you one of the other 2,000 cookies they have. It's not like they have to custom make another one for you. read more

I love this place. If you never been there before, just go. I guarantee you'll find something you'll like. Their bread is awesome. They don't have a huge variety but you'll find something you'll like. They have plenty of cookies to choose from. They have plenty of mini pastries to choose from. They have plenty of cakes and pies to choose from. Every cake and pie I had was awesome. I had an apple once that was to sweet for me. That was the only item I had that was a bit much.
