Old, hard, stale. This was such a the waste of money. I'm so disappointed. When I entered the backers and look and what they had to offer, I considered just leaving. Against my better judgment, I got the glazed donut, a piece of coffee cake, and a pumpkin crumb cup. The doughnut was hard, the crumb cake was a little dry cake with wayyyyy too much crumb so it was just sugar. And it's not even a good flavor. But these are definitely not fresh. If it wasn't snowing, I would have taken them back and asked for refund. read more

It bums me out to leave this review, but two stars is generous.... There are times the pastries and cookies are good (eclairs are the standout, and bagels are good same day) but nearly everything is rock hard overnight even with taking recommended precautions and wrapping things. Worst of all, we ordered a custom cake for my daughter last year. When my mother did me a favor and picked up the cake, she noticed they handed her the wrong flavor and it had the wrong name on it. Thankfully she caught it, so the employee went into the back and came out with a new box and apologized that she mixed up the order. Understandable, except, once it was time to serve the cake we opened the box to find it was again the wrong cake. A different wrong cake! And not only was it wrong, it was actually BAD. We ended up getting a vanilla cake (had ordered chocolate) but the cake itself was very crumbly and dry, not sweet at all and almost seemed over baked around the edges. Insane to serve this quality to a customer. Whole thing ended up in the garbage. read more

I absolutely cannot recommend Plum Bakery enough! I've been going to this tiny store for several years, even back when the Plum Diner was a thing a few streets away. Occasionally, I want a yummy gluten-free treat and I know I can come here for something delicious. You name it, you can find it here- donuts, bagels, cookies, brownies, etc. A few months ago, I was able to find a lemon meringue pie and I nearly cried tears of joy. I haven't had a slice of delicious lemon meringue in over six years, so I was beyond delighted to grab one. It was divine and one of my favorite things I've gotten there. I always leave with a heavy box full of reasonably priced items and a smile. Don't be flaky, swing by the bakery. read more

I was so excited to find plum bakery while visiting a friend near Montclair. We picked up a bunch of treats to try before swinging by their place on a Saturday. By noon most of the seasonal stuff was sold out which was a great sign IMO. We opted for a variety of cinnamon rolls, donuts, and a brownie to share. The service wasn't anything to write home about. Typical bakery/cafe get in and out sorta spot. As we dug in a few hours later we were bummed to find most of the goodies were stale or really dry. The best of the bunch was the brownie which was dense and chocolatey. Maybe we wait too long and the donuts need to be enjoyed the morning of? I hesitantly write this review since I've only stopped by once after this and the linzer cookie had potential but was also crumbly/dry. Maybe the third time is the charm? I'll have to stop in and report back. read more

Super cute gluten free bakery tucked away on Glen Ridge Ave. I stopped in looking for donuts which I know isn't their specialty and picked up a cinnamon one and a cronut, total was over $9. They were flavorful and pretty to look at but a bit denser than I like. They had a bunch of other cute pastries that looked beautiful so may try this spot again soon. read more

A family member surprised me with three treats from here. I've never been here myself but they thought I would like their baked goods since I am GF. I tried the eclair, brownie and the cinnamon roll. Overall, everything was sugared up. That's my main issue. Brownie didn't need the icing as it is very sweet already. The eclair was also very very sweet. Filling was all sugary. The cinnamon roll was ok. I made cinnamon rolls at home actually so it tasted just like those. Nothing I would really crave or come back for. Unfortunately, it's a total miss for me. Dedicated gluten free facility!!! Had the quiche, popover and eclair. All items were yummy. The consistency was really nice and light for gf. Although the popover could use some salt. Admittedly I walked into this bakery at the direction of a restaurant across the street and very happy I did. I tried the country style bread which was delicious as well as a couple of pastries. The reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the pastries were not as sweet as I expected them to be. I'm going to be a repeat customer for the bread alone and give the pastries another try. I was so happy to find a gluten free bakery. I went in on a Friday morning. The choices were minimal. I picked two doughnuts that cost me way to too. Was like $9.00 for two doughnuts. I didn't even care because I was so excited to find a dessert I could have. Omg....they were about 5lbs each. Dense and dry as hell. One was jelly. It was horrible. The jelly wasn't even tasty. Really love this bakery! So comforting knowing it is 100% gluten free. I also have a nut allergy, which I get so nervous/hesitant about, and Plum Bakery marks their items with nuts. Usually one or two items have nuts and they are clearly labeled and on separate trays. Usually gluten free bread is pretty blah, but their country bread loaf is delicious! And their baguettes are also super yummy. Their broccoli, spinach and goat cheese quiche is absolutely tasty as well. Definitely a must try for gluten free people, and those who are not! read more

A gluten free bakery is a dream come true! I've loved everything that I have ever tried from Plum. Their bagels are the closest to a "real" glutinous bagel that you will find. I only wish that they had more vegan desert options, that is why I knocked off a star. I tried most of their stuff before I became a vegan, though, and it was all great. read more

It's so great having a GF bakery here. Natalie is talented. I absolutely love some of their items. Their chocolate chip cookies, rugelach, quiche among other things. My family members also love the cinnamon buns. Although I'm not in love with the bagels or eclairs (I find them too dense), I love the Plum Bakery bread. We were very excited to find this 100% gluten free bakery. Unfortunately, the excitement faded. My wife has celiac disease and when we find places, we tend to go a little overboard. We got an apple pastry, which she said didn't taste of apple. We also ordered two huge cream puffs, which she did not like either. A highlight was the rugelach which she said was nice. OUTSTANDING!!! I've been patronizing Plum Bakery for about 2 months now and can confidently say that I've never been at all disappointed. I discovered Plum Bakery while seeking gluten free bakeries to cater a work breakfast. Natalie (the owner) took her time to explain each item & how each would serve in the AM. My entire staff was blown away (two months later they're still talking about it!) Plum Bakery has now become my part of my weekly food shopping! The breads & bagels & muffins are incredible! The rugelach is ridiculous...way too delicious! I generally can't make it out of the store without eating two from the bag that I've just purchased. The chocolate chip cookies have a slight crisp but are soft inside. The brownies are decadent! If you are gluten free this place is heaven! If you're not...you won't know the difference! read more

Great place for Celiacs to rest assured there is no cross contamination with their products. Facility is guaranteed to be gluten-free and the breads, cakes and cookies (and whatever else they have) are wonderful! My daughter has celiac disease, so of course we've been here several times. The cream puffs are absolutely delicious. As for everything else, I think they used to be better. The last couple times we've come here, the cakes were like giant pieces of card board. I know a thing or two about baking gluten free, and there's a reason gluten free baked goods come out super dry and heavy. Why this happens in a bakery that charges prices as if they are a five star restaurant is beyond me. This bakery is the best thing to hit Montclair in a long time! This totally wheat free, 100% gluten free baking facility is a welcome addition to those of us who have to eat gluten free. The baked goods are amazing....one thing is better than the next. I have to pinch myself to remember that everything is gluten free, the baguettes are crunchy on the outside,moist on the inside. The rugalach, plum donuts and chocolate bundt cake are among my favorites. My wife doesn't need to eat gluten free, yet comes here because the bakery items are so delicious. In my search for a great gluten free bakery for over a year now, and I was so excited to learn of this place in Montclair. I hate to say, but this place was bare and tried very hard not to impress. The presentation of items was hard to decode. Nothing was labeled. You had to ask about everything, and take for granted that the person at the counter knew all of the ingredients by heart. The ONLY food allergy that they were concerned with was gluten. I was disappointed with the selection, period. Add, that I also need vegan options, and I was reduced to less than 2 or 3 items. The vegan gluten free bread was sweet and did not at all seem like regular bread. I wanted to love it... being located in such an eclectic foodie town, I wanted more. Stopped by for some "sandwich bread" (how can a celiac enjoy avocado toast without Plum sandwich bread....can't)....and got yet another cinnamon roll. Because they are delicious. But this time I also tried an eclair because the Plum guy said they were his favorite. O M G. Everything about it is amazing. Obviously these treats don't stay fresh long - but I'd rather have delicious treats that last 24 hours than another batch of crap that lasts forever (see the gluten free aisle at any grocery store). Dedicated gluten free facility -- Celiac's paradise...actually anyone with a sweet tooth will be satisfied with the high quality great tasting offerings. Donuts and Brownies are excellent. Cream Puff is the star of the show - simply outstanding. Really hard to make a GF bagel and this is as good as it gets. I came far to find this bakery. Was so exited. Arrived one hour and a half before closing on a Sunday hoping I would try a few things and get some bread. They had two baguettes left. In the moment I said I will take both. The few items they had looked yummy so I purchased a piece of crumb cake, a cinnamon roll and cinnamon and sugar donut. Get home and taste. I had to get a knife and cut donut and the rest because it was all Dry, Hard and Flavorless. Everything tastes the same. Hard as in stale hard. Very dense and bland. Almost like the same recipe was used on all deserts. Being GF I know how things are. Don't know when the items are made but I don't mind bland I did mind hard and dry. $25.00 waste of money and gas.
