Had dinner here a few weeks ago and WOW Montclair really is not giving up its title for best food city anytime soon. We're still slowly working our way through local spots, and Brick + Dough was highly recommended to us. We started with garlic knots, bread, and fries, and honestly... 10/10 across the board. Everything was SO good. The fries especially are still living rent free in my head. We then split three pizzas, all of which were seriously incredible. We came here for a dinner date with some friends and their dog. They were able to accommodate us outside to be able to have the dog with us, which was very nice as we always look for outdoor spaces to be able to bring our furry friends. The service was nice, especially because even though we were the only table sitting outside, they were consistently coming out to make sure we were doing OK and had everything we needed. We ordered some garlic knots, which were good, it just seemed a little bit pricey to charge for the marinara sauce separately, which was not really outstanding nor something special, so I would recommend you skip it. We also ordered the chicken vodka Parm pie which was very good. The chicken was very crispy and the pizza was still delicious the next day when we had the leftovers. One of her friends is allergic to gluten, so it was very nice that they were able to accommodate for her. I do wanna point out that we have been to many places that offer gluten-free options and this is the first one I've been to that does charge you extra to make a gluten-free. In terms of price, it is very similar to the other places in Montclair but they do provide very good service and the ambience both outside and inside is very nice. read more

I tried this place after checking out the Farmer's Market nearby. The place is nice and cozy with a modern motiff. The waiter was very friendly and absolutely accommodating. I didn't have to ask him, he just refilled my water glass whenever it went low. I tried their pepperoni pizza. The pizza was a Neopolitan Style pizza that can be shared by two people. Since I was alone, I ate it all by myself. It was very good. The crust was soft, with a little bit of crisp. Typical of Neopolitan Style. I topped the meal off with a double espresso. I went to Brick + Dough with my best friend and sister, and we had such a great time. First of all, the crispy brussel sprouts...SO good! I've been on a brussel sprouts kick lately, and these absolutely satisfied my craving, perfectly crispy and super flavorful. For pizza, we ordered the gluten-free Detroit-style pepperoni pie and a margherita pie, and both were really delicious. The crust, the flavor, everything just hit. The atmosphere was chill but still lively, making it a perfect spot to hang out, catch up, and enjoy some good food. Also, major bonus it's BYOB, which is amazing because it helps cut down on spending on drinks. Overall, such a great spot to satisfy your pizza cravings. Smelled so good from the outside we had to pop in on a Saturday afternoon. It was around 1 PM and whereas all the brunch places were packed full, this is exactly what we wanted. It was just my girl fiend and I, so we decided to split the Foraged Feast which is a mushroom pizza with lemon zest to give it a pop. We were both stuffed at the end. I would've preferred my undercarriage slightly crispy, but overall prepared as it should have been with a slightly charred outside. Flavor A+. Restaurant is deceivingly large. I enjoyed my pizza here! I got the Detroit style pepperoni pizza and my boyfriend got the chicken vodka pizza and it was really good. My edges were a little burnt but other than that i enjoyed. When i opened the box to get one of my cheesy breads i was a little skeptical because they looked weird but it was good. I did take out so I can really say much about the parking. We were out to meet some friends the night we came here and this place had been on both couples' lists for a while. What better way to meet new people than to try out a new place together ? They had a special menu with "Neapolitan-ish" style pizzas. Gotta confess, I was a little reluctant to taste the bulgogi pizza, given it was obviously an Italian restaurant and all.. but truthfully ? It actually tasted quite good (sorry, forgot to take a picture) surprisingly enough, the bulgogi actually tasted like bulgogi and we were all very happy with it. Really nice spot, service was friendly and fast. Let's start with the brussel sprouts, so freaking good. They were cooked to perfection, super crispy , and then the miso maple glaze just adds a nice sweet to balance the bitter of the sprouts ( I wouldn't hate a little heat here as well). The pizza is brick oven neopolitan, which I usually am not the biggest fan of, of the dough is very light and cooked so it's not soggy. The pep is great , didn't even need to add honey to it , who doesn't love those little crispy cups of goodness , and they did not skimp on the roni. I wish the sesame and strat had some more cheese, but overall the sesame was a nice surprise, and it was nice to have a lighter flavor pie to compliment the heavy pepperoni overload (almost like a palat cleanser of that makes sense). read more

I cannot speak more highly of this place. It wins on all levels: food, service, and atmosphere. The pizza is probably the best I've ever had. My family and I are huge pizza snobs, always looking for the greatest pizza around town. We've tried so many places but nothing compares to Brick & Dough. The dough is so delicious- it is almost chewy yet still charred but doesn't scrape your mouth like other crusts that are more burnt (which I hate). The sauce, the sauce. OMG. What is in that sauce?? I tell them every time we go there (which is every Friday), to please bottle up your marinara and sell it. I mean it's the most amazing thing you'll ever taste. Period. We always get a plain pie and white pie, and always try out their seasonal pies which are insane! For starters the cheese bread sticks with that YUMMM-marinara sauce is so so good. The arancini is packed with flavor. So delish. Honestly I think everything we try there has been a hit. Now about the staff, where do I begin? These guys are all a group of highly trained professionals! Every single person my family and I have interacted with at Brick & Dough is super pleasant and kind. There is one individual in particular that I want to shout out here. His name is Mike, the manager at B&D. This guy is the definition of what a true leader should be in any company, restaurant, or organization. He is the kindest, most professional person we have ever met. The way he manages this restaurant and his staff, and then finding time to greet me and my family and share laughs...I cannot tell you how much joy it brings us (especially to our 2 year old daughter). Every week she cannot wait until Friday comes around because she knows it's Brick & Dough time. And as soon as we walk in the first thing she says is "where's Mike?"!! He is not your average manager....he is a rockstar leader. I hope Brick & Dough leadership reads this and recognizes this individual. And Mike if you are reading this, thank you. Unfortunately underwhelmed on almost all counts. We made a reservation for the dining room -- a high top was also an option that I purposely did not choose. It was a celebratory meal and I'm short -- high tops don't work well for me. We checked in and...were seated at a high top. When I asked for a regular table, I was told that's all they had. I was uncomfortable all night with my feet dangling, so maybe that colored my experience. Our server was nice and checked in frequently, so he was great and the most professional part of the evening. Apps too "sports bar," (wings, fried chicken sandwich, poutine, smashburger, etc.) which didn't fit the upscale Italian vibe they otherwise seemed to be going for. Meatballs were good, and sauce also very good. Ordered 3 pies as mains -- dough was flavorful and crust looked well done with the right amount of char, but the meatball-ricotta pie was overloaded and slices broke apart. Vodka sauce pie way too salty and my sesame-stracciatella had too much sesame, barely any cheese, and was bland and dry. Some parts of the crust were a bit too doughy on all our pies and we left it behind, which is something we never do. Important to note: the music was deafening and of dubious quality. Playlist seemed to consist of "annoying pop-punk hits of the 90s you wish you never heard again." Goo Goo Dolls followed by Third Eye Blind, Sublime, et al, played at a volume way too loud to ignore. And clientele was very senior citizen, crowd much older than us, so the soundtrack didn't align with the audience. We had a really hard time hearing our server and tables nearby were screaming over the music to compensate. Not a good vibe. Came here on the recommendation of a good friend and I really enjoyed the food. We started with the meatballs and burrata which were both excellent. The meatballs were homemade and very flavorful. I enjoyed the burrata preparation which was sweet and savory. For my pizza I had the spicy sopresatta which was well balanced with a nice chewy crust on the inside and perfectly charred on the outside. Service was very friendly and prices are reasonable. B+D is about 40 minutes away, but my husband and I still find ourselves there every so often because once the craving is there, it's there! It's always different, and it's always good from what I hear. So it's nice to know that they switch things up. The pizza here is delicious!! Me and my homie ordered the foraged feast pizza. If you like mushrooms, GET IT! You eint regret it. My only tip is to make sure to add some caramelized onions to it. It elevates the hell out of it. Although both were ok it was nothing to run back for. Dough was super doughy and felt the sauce and cheese wasn't supporting it. Service was fine. The restaurant was pretty much empty with only 2 other people eating at the same time with us, therefore I was a little confused why the food took so long to come out.
