My family moved to Bloomfield a month ago and we went to Italia, or what we now call "Benny's".. several weeks ago and immediately knew it was a staple for our family. The restaurant is simple and inviting.. everyone that walks in knows Benny and he makes you feel like you are in your own kitchen. He is extremely welcoming to the kids as well. My daughter asks daily to walk over to have Benny's pizza. Now .. the food!! The pizza is perfectly made and cooked .. the sauce is hands down the best.. it is tangy and delicious. I was vibing with the idea of having a buffy chicky wrap wrap so I ordered from Italia and got a pie to try as well. The wrap was good, but not what I was expecting. It's sort of a hybrid between a calzone and a traditional wrap. Still, very delicious -- likely would have benefited from more Buffalo sauce, but the side of bleu cheese of course saved the day. The pizza was good too, but nothing super groundbreaking UNTIL I had a slice of it cold the next morning. Dear Lord this is the best cold pizza I've ever had. The next time I order from here, I may immediately put the pie in the fridge. It's very cheese forward which makes the consistency a little chewier but in a good way. I was in the mood for a calzone, so there's run $8 ($1 extra for toppings) so I ordered one. It was ready in about $15. They are currently only doing pick up, and in summer it was really hot inside just waiting for the food, so power to the workers for carrying on. The calzone was HUGE. Like 2 means worth for about $10 is a hell yes. It was nice and hot, crispy crust filled with cheese and pepperoni. So the food was good at a good price. But if you are picking up, don't come too much earlier than they told you it will take as waiting inside in summer was tough. read more

Holy crap! We live a 10 minute walk away from this place for a year and a half and have been trying pizza places much further away trying to find great pizza and Italian food. Since moving to New Jersey about six months ago, I've been looking for a pizza parlor to compare to my favorite NY pizza parlor from my childhood (colloseo on long island). This is the closest yet. The first thing to stand out is how wonderful the gentleman behind the counter is. He has a true warmth and professional demeanor that made my family feel very welcome. I don't usually notice service but I had a great feel here. The pizza itself came out fast and had a great consistency. It was not too oily, firm crust without being too crispy, excellent craftsmanship. The cheese and sauce were solid. The meatball calzone we got was one of the best I've ever had, a true masterpiece. I'm not quite ready to put this above colloseo, but perhaps nostalgia plays a role. Either way, I will be back and I suggest you come try Italia too. read more

This place has the BEST pizza! That's the main reason to go. But the other reason I go there is because of the owner, Benny. We tried this place out, when my family moved here (1 1/2 years ago), and Benny became an instant friend to us all. He's like that with all his customers too. And, he's always there, because he literally has zero staff. Yep, this is a one man operation. He does everything on his own, and still has plenty of spare time to be super friendly. Italia pizza is hands down the best pizza in the area. Classic Jersey pie, perfect ratio of cheese to sauce, perfect crust. It's so delicious. Before coronavirus, we had numerous parties at our house where we ordered pizza from Italia. And so many of our friends and family (all Jersey born and bred) raved about how good the pizza is. This is my favorite pizza spot. The crust is thin but hearty. The sauce to cheese ratio is perfect. I constantly crave this pizza and whenever I try pizza from somewhere else - no comparison. If we have left over slices they go in the oven at 400 for around 6-7 minutes and it still taste absolutely amazing. We moved out of Bloomfield but still get pizza from here. It's so good. I recently tried out this pizza place as it is close to my house. I ordered a cheese pie to go. I was intrigued by all of the good reviews. To my surprise, it did not live up to my expectations and was honestly one of the worst pies I've ever had. There is entirely too much sauce which makes the pie very soggy. It does not hold up and you can't even lift it without it breaking all apart. The sauce is also very tasteless. All five star ratings are NOT created equal. Meaning, after dozens of visits over the past three years, I've held off on reviewing this place to avoid misleading the Yelp faithful. But after much soul-searching and deliberation, here's my verdict: if you want great pizza, this is the best pie (or slice) in town, period. Sure, the ambience is super casual. Soccer (erp... "futbol" so as not to offend my fellow Euro-leaguers!) plays on a large screen in the back. Tables and chairs are nondescript... It doesn't scream "fancy" when you walk in, and that's okay; Benny and his staff aren't here to wow you with decor. But he is a pizza wizard, and it consistently shows. Crust is always crispy with a nice chew. Not too thick, not too thin. Sauce is simple and tasty, and for me, it always has just the right amount of toppings. Faves being the good ole' cheese pie, buffalo chicken, and extra bready Sicilian squares. Other dishes on the menu are filling and fine enough (his pastas and sammies in particular), but you'd be remiss to deprive yourself of his delicious pizza. Yes; their hours can be wonky. Yes; there are more "prestigious" pie parlors... but if you are looking for a hot, fresh, five-star pie, I don't think you'll regret a trip to Italia. If the cold is keeping you away, I recommend visiting in the early summer to grab a slice and Coke (sorry Pepsi-holics), and nabbing a table outside during Bloomfield's Car Show nights. I had my favorite Chicken Parmesan sandwich. I've had sandwiches were you look at the meat and you see processed meat with what looks like fillers rounding off the patty or strip. Real chicken breast is used at this place. The paddies were fried just right. The sauce was rich, and thick with ingredients as you see in the picture. I'm posting a picture showing the richness of the sauce. The bread was lightly toasted on the outside. If you're wondering where's the Parmesan cheese, I had the cook put it on the bread before he placed the patties and sauce on it.
