They put onions on my sandwich, which I do not eat, so while I was removing the onions, I found a piece of rat poop in my lettuce! So many onions!I would come back to get this sub again. My husband however was super underwhelmed with his chicken roll. The only thing you could really taste was the marinara sauce to dip it in; the chicken roll itself didn't have much seasoning. This place is slow, especially the gray-haired older dude with glasses. His customer service was horrible and so was his attitude. I called ahead but my food still wasn't ready after a 12-minute wait. In fact, a guy came in after me and ordered two slices from what was on display and the gray-haired dude served him, warmed his food up and he was out of there before me. As a result, my garlic knots were burnt on the bottom! I even had to ask him for the receipt twice for which he gave me more attitude. What happen! I grew in Brookdale Blmf NJ. This was my hometown pizza place. We would go after school and grab a slice or two. My famiy would order from here every Friday night. It was alwas so good !!! I ordered a pepperoni and onion pie thin crusted and well done, a sicilian slice and a sausage roll that I put in last minute. Thank God, because that was the only thing that was good. The sicilian was bad, but it was a slice. It could of been sitting there for awhile. Sausage roll was good. But the pizza. Wow. I was shocked on how bad it was. Not thin and not well done.The pepperoni was not crispy or cooked at all. It might as well been thrown on the pizza after it was cooked or was it. It was no different then grabbing a peice off a cheese platter. Not well done even a little bit. Not a black char mark on the pizza at all. So much sauce, that is all you could taste. The cheese was weird. Was it Mozzerella? I have no clue. It was like old cheese. It didn't stretch, it broke apart. I had heard their prices went up, but I always said. You get what you pay for. Was looking for good pizza in jersey and the grandma pizza was recommended. Ordered pizza and wings, can't go wrong with that, right?! Well the wings came with no Buffalo sauce and the pizza was ok, pretty average place especially since they can't even get the wings right. Lunch Apr 30 Neighborhood pizza joint with lots of history. I am NOT a fan of big NY Style greasy, triangle cut pizza (waiting for the gasps and cries of sacrilege). But I did like this for 1 reason - the bottom of the crust was very crispy and not flimsy. Pepperoni's were big and good quality. Parm alert...Bloomfield N.J.!!! I was participating in a disussion on Yelp regarding the best places to order a "Parm" from in New Jersey (parmigiana in Italian-ease as Parms seem to be an American construct) since then, I've revisited some local joints in my town of Bloomfield lately which really has proven to be hit or miss where pizza fare is concerned, but Mario's Famous stands out as the only solid choice, well above the lackie cardboard slingers in this town. Mario's chicken parm is so good that I ordered it twice in one week. The full loaf large size comes in four six inch segments that are enough for four people who maybe are on a diet but want parm, or two people who dont give a damn, or one person who has just plain give up on life. The chicken parmigiana was stacked thick with well prepared tasty chicken breast, delicio sauce and plenty of melted cheese (note to self and others, if you prefer toasted bread, ask for it, as Mario's doesn't finish off the sandwich in the oven like I prefer). This way too conservatively yelp starred Bloomfield mainstay deserves four stars for the 36" of parm I was served, and the pizza is notably good as well, even the slices ordered at the counter reheated. Perhaps there is a flame war amongst the local lackie inconsistent pizza places in Bloomfield trying to keep Mario's under the radar? Some of the low ratings seem to come from inexperienced reviewers comparing pizzerias to steakhouses,and the prices are certainly not $$$, but as a Bloomfield resident of seven years, my opinion is, if you want to order from a local pizzeria and not feel cheated with bad food and skimpy sandwich contents, order now, stop looking, bookmark it and speed dial add Mario's to your favorites. read more

The pizza was good enough that I don't even mind being overcharged. A chicken cutlet pie is $16 and a broccoli pie is $14.75 so if I get half chicken cutlet and half broccoli, it shouldn't be more than $16. It should be LESS than $16 actually, I'm replacing a more expensive topping with a less expensive topping. I was charged as if both toppings had covered the entire pie. Not exactly quantum physics. My husband has lived in Bloomfield all his life and loves this place . I have recently moved to Nj from Manhattan and have to say not a fan of Jerseys way of pizza but I like it here . We order chicken parmigiana and chicken Francese both orders are big enough to share satisfying and delicious ! The Buffalo wings and meatballs are also great and well proportioned. I now have hives all over me and my tongue itches. Never heard of a Caesar salad with roast red peppers. It's Romaine, croutons, cheese. Called to suggest that they let people know when ordering and the asshole woman on the phone told me to go to the emergency room if I was so bad, that's how they make it, I was being unreasonable etc before she hung up on me. That being said the penna vodka was DELICIOUS. the buffalo chicken wrap was very good as well. The meatball sub was good and not so good. The actual meatball and sauce was VERY GOOD. So it seems they have the food handling situation under control. This is good, because I've come to accept this place as my go-to local pizza joint. The pizza crust is always consistently good. It's not super thin. It's not too thick. No bubbles, never burnt. Good balance of cheese and sauce. My favorite topping is the meatball topping - evenly sliced meatball. Their fried calamari is actually my favorite of all time. I've had all sorts of calamari - thin sliced, super thick sliced, etc. This calamari has the best breading (could be tempura), a hint of salt and is never rubbery. I also like I can get a spicy version of the tomato sauce that comes with it. I'm actually really partial to their cheesesteaks. I dunno what it is, but it seems like their cheesesteaks are really well balanced. I add mozzarella in addition to American cheese. I usually don't like American cheese with anything, but it just works. The bad part is the individual slices they have out are almost never good. They're either too dry and/or I don't like the topping combinations they have. read more

I'm really surprised by the low ratings. Mario's has ample sauce and cheese and great flavor. It's been consistent quality for over 25 years even with different management and, I'm sure, chefs. I've heard the recipe has changed, but they managed to still keep the pizza great. It's now 10:19 and we called about our food, they are insisting that we are TOO far and they never sent out our order. I ordered a Sicilian pie with extra cheese and I must admit I was disappointed. Right off the bat I did not think it was extra cheese... so much so that I asked to make sure they indeed added extra cheese! In addition, it was not a saucy as I like it and the edges were burned almost to a crisp in several places. Was visiting a friend of mine in Bloomfield and didn't feel like going out for food so delivery was our only option. My friend recommended Mario's. We ordered 1 large pie half pepperoni and the other half plain, an order of mozzarella sticks, and a soda. The Pros: pizza was very tasty. Not greasy like you receive from most delivery places. Loved the fact the slices were actually sliced and didn't require us recutting the pizza. Mozzarella sticks were on par. Just happy they were not cold and/or super soggy like you would expect from delivery. And the delivery time was unexpectedly quick for a Saturday night. Cons: not much I can think of. I'm a definite loyal customer. Their food is always good. their calamari is delicious. pizza is awesome as well. My kids love their pizza and chicken parm sandwiches. my fave is the eggplant supreme with the fresh mutz. and their vodka sauce even makes you want to have more! So far i just get the sandwiches now since my kids need all the protein boys need at their age. Growing boys can't have pizza all the time. Just picked up an order that was wrong, AGAIN! How hard is it to put lettuce on a sandwich???? A chicken cutlet sandwich was ordered with lettuce and tomato. No lettuce. Not a big deal this one time but this place has messed up soooooo many orders lately. One time they gave us an entirely wrong order, someone else's food.
