Let's get right to the point here- Shi's Cakes & Things IS IT! Sweet treats are number one on my list of favorite things, and I've finally found my favorite place to get them! I had the pleasure of sampling her banana pudding a few times, so I sort of knew what I was in for! Well, I thought I knew! My expectations were high, but she sent them off the charts! Unreal but REAL! The banana pudding is absolutely delicious but the cheesecakes? CRAZY GOOD! And banana breads? AMAZEBALLS! My family and I ate every single crumb of every single item that we ordered! Her pop-up shop is available for take out only, and she offers delivery via Doordash & Grubhub. The area is not that busy, so you shouldn't have a problem finding a parking spot should you visit the store. Her prices are reasonable and fair, and the portions are plentiful! Logistics out of the way first: Shi's Cakes & Things is not a walk in cafe/restaurant setting. The building is rather industrial looking and does not always appear to be open at first. I wound up going to the side and calling to have the owner herself, Rashida Sawye come to the door. After trading some pleasantries, we put in our order verbally (as opposed to the web site, which you could do ahead of time). Rashida was really nice and very cool about telling us what items she had in stock. This changes from time to time, so it's best to check. After reading the reviews here, I of course wound up getting the banana pudding. Let me tell you, I've had my fair share of banana pudding in my time and while the *concept* of the dish has always been appealing to me, it is very rare to find a truly great example. THIS. IS. IT. Not only is there pudding here, but you also get Nilla wafers and bits of fresh banana inside! Toss in *fresh whipped* cream and you have all the ingredients for an amazing dessert. The banana flavor is on point. The wafers add a wonderful flavor and texture hit and the whipped cream is just the right texture where it is lighter than the pudding but creamy enough to be satisfying. If you like banana pudding at all you owe it to yourself to try this one! read more

Nothing I was blown away by but glad that I ventured out and tried something new. At first, I wasn't sure where I was because this Orange location is actually located in a shared kitchen space! If you ever come here, just know that it is in the "Iron Works" building and you must call her first so that she can let you in. We went on one Sunday afternoon and didn't have all the things on the menu, but we were happy with our selections. The apple cheesecake was good with crushed ginger snaps which I love! Banana pudding was average, not the best that I have tasted, but it was certainly good! I didn't taste the Oreo cheesecake but heard it was good as well! Shi's talent made my birthday amazing! Unfortunately due to covid my favorite cake from maison kayser the adagio cake is unavailable since the company shut down earlier this year. Shi was able to work with my mom to recreate my favorite cake which consisted of fresh passion fruit cream , dark chocolate cake & chocolate coating. Shi was incredibly friendly and accommodating and created the cake with A+ accomplishment. Highly recommended and a sweet owner altogether! read more

I visited Shi's Cakes at the Montclair Artisanal market on the hunt for some tasty treats for NYE. Shi's Cakes has a cute set up in the market displaying refreshing beverages and delicious looking bread and muffins. I purchased cheesecake and banana pudding. Both items had an appetizing flair and I could not wait to try them with fingers crossed hoping I would enjoy it as it was my first time having these deserts. I was emphatically pleased that the banana pudding was everything I wanted. I would love to tell you about the cheesecake but it mysterious disappeared from my fridge into someone's belly. I am still on the case of who ate it before I even got to try it. I went to the location in Montclair and purchased a sampler as well as a slice of OCD (Oreo cookie delight) cheesecake. I brought them home to taste. Immediately my husband and I knew we had to order more tomorrow when they opened. And that's exactly what we did! Secondly, the owner herself is fabulous. Willing to customize, mix and match her menu. She is kind and truly customer service oriented. She had sold out of a couple of her desserts but offered to put something else, of my choosing, in the sampler box. I will continue to tell all my neighbors and friends about this business because I have truly fallen in love with these desserts. Have visited this shop several times and have always been super pleased with the coffee and deserts. The shop has lots of seating, puzzles and games available if you want to hang for a while. Today i had a latte with a stirred strawberry cheese cake. Both were spot on, prepared with care. We were offered a sample of her banana bread and pudding and both were also delicious. It's going to be tough to decide what to get when I go back but thats a good problem to have. We chatted awhile with the owner who is just great. We love her mission to build community. My significant other and I shop at this market on a regular basis. The highlight of our afternoon is Shis Cakes And Things. Shi is a friendly, patient person, who offers helpful advice that help her customers make just the right purchase. We enjoy the banana and strawberry puddings, and the apple, and chocolate chip pound cakes. The banana bread rocks. Shi creates some of the most delicious desserts I've ever tasted. This place makes the most amazingly decadent sweets - and well worth an uber eats order if you don't live nearby. I ordered a banana pudding, apple crumb and plain jane cheesecake for a companionable at-home "hang" last month. I had company over - we wanted a sweet fix, but couldn't be bothered baking, and ice cream wasn't going to cut it - so we went with Shi's instead. I found out about Shi's Cakes & Things from a Facebook group. It was said she had the best banana pudding ever & boy were they right!!! I finally got around to the Artisan Pop-up Shop in Montclair and I AM OBSESSED. I ordered a small banana pudding and she gave me an additional free one to try to see if I like my nilla wafers crunchy or soft. My boyfriend also impulse-purchased a pudding for himself and a chocolate chip banana bread. He said that his family devoured it. I'll definitely be back!!!! read more

Hi Everyone, This is my first review that I have ever posted. I met Rashida at a local farmer's market next to the Bloomfield public library which is there every Tuesday starting at 3:30 pm. She was very friendly, kind and funny. A real pleasure to talk to. I told her about my mother's banana bread and how I hoped that her's would be as good. My mother made it with raisins and walnuts. She was kind enough to offer to make one for me with raisins and walnuts and bring it to me next week. I didn't want to wait that long to try her's so I bought one with just walnuts. I really liked it. It was tasty, moist and had plenty of walnuts. I could have eaten the whole loaf but I saved some for tomorrow.
