Translated from the Spanish meaning small cut, it refers to a strong, Cuban-style espresso drink. It's essentially a small, sweet version of a Spanish cortado, and it's made with a high sugar content and a touch of milk, typically 1:1 espresso to hot milk. Located on Washington Avenue in Belleville, customers are greeted by the portrait of musical icon Celia Cruz aptly proclaiming ¡Azucar! behind the pastry counter's tart pastelitos de guayaba y queso and quesitos of the newly renovated next door to the old one with a warm and inviting vibe at Cortaditos. As my partner and I were invited for a celebration, we decided to get a dozen of the Guava Pastellitos as well as the Meat Pastellito and Ropa Vieja Empanada. These were small, flaky pastries filled with a sweet and savory filling. They are a popular Cuban treat, often enjoyed for breakfast, snack, or dessert. The meats were tasty and richly flavored. The empanadas were baked and not greasy. These guava pastelitos were a big part of my childhood. The staff were friendly and attentive. The price was reasonable for the area. For a first-timer to the new location, it won't be the last, as I can recommend it.

Vegan Cubano is nice. Typically a lot of ice served in my Morir soando. No vanilla extract added but could've been nice. Prices kinda high but fits w area. Staff might not be familiar w English but there is a toast tablet w explanations of various items. Cereal drink- con-trigo which maybe should be trigo con. Pay 20 extra for a half hour to park or come here randomly were my choices lol

Lovely spot to stop by for a coffee! We did go here in hopes of doing work and it was super hot inside so that was the only "downside" but the service was great and the drinks were incredible. The food wasn't half bad either. I'd def come back in the winter or sometime their big windows are open!!

Woke up hungry and wanted a café con leche and the boo wanted a Cuban pastelito de carne so I was on the search for a good Cuban bakery. Stopped by and was not disappointed. Would def return. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich and he got the Cuban and loved it. Personally I would ask that they press my sandwich longer but that's just my preference. The chicken empanadas were delish! He loved all the empanadas so don't think you can go wrong with any. I saw someone walk out with this drink and had to find out what it was. A frozen cafe con leche. DELICIOUS. GET IT. I got it sweetened and there was an option to add a flavor. Only upset I got a small size just in case I wouldn't like but now I know. Cool little cafe/bakery with the option to sit or take items to go. Quick and friendly service.

We walked in and everyone was very welcoming. We asked about the upstairs and they told us we could go up. The wall decor was beautiful. It was a cute set up however, the tables were left dirty and had cups from prior customers . So I basically moved them to the counter , was able to sit and enjoy my cafe con leche and quesito. They had cute little cups and the quesito was delicious. I think they need someone checking on the people upstairs or at least cleaning up. Overall I'll come back especially when it gets warmer for the little patio area they have .

Loved the ice coffee and the Cuatro Tres Leches. The Tres Leches was sweet and delicious. The inside was very pretty and they have a table setting where you can sit outside which I hope to do as it gets warmer. I learned the upstairs area was beautiful from the friends I was with but didn't get to see it yet but will do. My friend enjoyed the cuban sandwich and I am eager to try more food and drinks there. The staff and servers were also very kind. I am very happy that this is near the area I live and hope to come again for breakfast or lunch again soon. :)

I heard there's an upstairs opened, but it was closed when I was there maybe they're renovating.

I went to the beauty supply store across the street which by the way is very good. I discovered this little place and it was awesome. I am half Cuban so it was a little bit of Cuba in there. They just need to hire more people behind the counter because service is really slow. Their coffee is great. Their café con Leche is amazing. It's a must try for sure.

What I actually got and half of that top is all Foam :(

I am a frequent customer at this place and have never been disappointed until today :( I ordered their frozen cafe con Leche and to say it came up short would be to say the least in all aspects my cup was filled half way without any top of dressings no whip no caramel topping nothing as pictured ! And I made sure to put my add-ons Very highly disappointed and I'm Hoping in the future that this doesn't go on because they really are one of the only Cuban establishments that serve good food! Coffee however not the best which is even sadder being that it's one of the biggest parts of our culture

I got the pollo empanada and I liked it. The service was great. And I liked the atmosphere. I loved the empanada the recipe is great. I had to run to get something fast for breakfast cause I was quite busy today & this was a great break fast. First thing in the morning. Delicious! P.s - I loved the condiment.

What can be said that already hasn't?! Great coffee, speedy service even though they are constantly packed. Love their empanadas. The quesitos (sweet cheese flaky pastry), the cubano, the croissants, etc etc. Just go and you'll be sure to ENJOY!!!

Do I have to preorder the tres leches cake?

No, they sell tres leches by the slice. If you want a larger tree leches cake you'd have to order it.

Subsequent visits... actually I'm a big fan. From red velvet cookies to Sfogliatella to carrot cake - they have more than enough treats to quell your sweet tooth. The breads (the reason I find myself here most times) - incredible. Rolls (of varying sizes) as well as a damn perfect bastone (crunchy and flaky, ready to be piled high for a sandwich) not to mention... the almighty Pizza Bread?! Oh, yeah. A bit more rare to find but the only proper 'pane' if/when you're going to make an Italian hot dog. They also have a side/section with a full deli if savory is more your speed. Cool staff. Good pricing. Metered street parking but be warned... this one specific street feels more like a strip mall - with probably a dozen businesses (liquor stores to salons to fitness centers to a few restaurants to...) - all vying for those spots. The Lyndhurst Pastry Shop located on Ridge Road is an iconic must visit during the holiday season…read more There quality pastry, cookie, pie, bread, and cakes are without peer and their staff is always professional and top rate. I ordered the Christmas Honey balls ($19.95) and the Fudge Layer Cake ($29.50) and while I disagree with the credit card fee being passed to the consumer, the quality of the product exceeds that cost. Inside the venue is a true classic bakery atmosphere and while there is usually a line, the service is brisk and moves fairly quickly. If you want to impress your holiday season guests, family or friends, the LPS is the right venue for traditional Italian baked goods and desserts! As i return to NJ for the holidays, I will make at least three or four stops at LPS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I placed a cake order a week before my birthday photoshoot and provided a clear reference photo plus detailed instructions to the baker, Elizabeth, over phone and text. I even came in person to pay a $20 deposit because I wasn't comfortable giving my card over the phone. What I requested was simple: A white, heart-shaped cake with pearls, curtain detailing, black bows, and elegant black cursive writing that said "Chapter 30." Unfortunately, what I received looked nothing like what I asked for. * Photo 1: What I asked for * Photo 2: First attempt -- extremely disappointing * Photo 3: Second attempt -- still not what I asked for When I came to pick up the cake, I was visibly disappointed. The tall male supervisor apologized and told me, "I'll see if we can fix it. Please come back in the morning." I explained how inconvenient it was to come three separate times for one cake: once for the deposit, once for pickup, and again because of their poor quality. He assured me that the supervisor, Corrine, would call me the next morning about the revision and compensation for the inconvenience. That call never came. On the morning of my photoshoot, I had to call THEM to find out if the cake had even been fixed. Corrine sent a photo of the revised cake, and it still looked unprofessional. She said I would receive a refund if I remained unhappy -- yet I never received my apology, and I still never received my $20 refund. I'm sharing this review so others are aware. This bakery used to represent quality, but clearly that standard no longer exists. After showing the photos to friends and family, several revealed they've had similar disappointing experiences recently as well. The most embarrassing part? My mother named me after this bakery because of its reputation and legacy in Newark. After this experience, that association feels more embarrassing than meaningful. Calandra's bakery, do better. Your long-time loyal customers deserve far more respect and care than this.
