Small empanada shop located on the Belleville Pike that I pass every day and finally gave it a try. I got three empanadas, one ham and cheese, one buffalo chicken, and one guava and cheese. I ranked them in that order as well. The Ham and cheese was pretty good, the Buffalo chicken was really good, and the guava and cheese was outstanding. I would love if they sold a dipping sauce too but I didn't see any. I could have missed it if there were to be honest. The service was excellent and the price was right too......under $10 for three. The parking is a little dicey, it's street only and you have to find it on the side streets. I'm glad I stopped and I will stop again on the way home to try other combinations. read more

My partner and I were looking for a local breakfast spot when we came across EmpaBake. Right away, we noticed the display filled with pastries and a tempting selection of savory baked empanadas. We ordered a caramel latte and a cappuccino to start, along with a ropa vieja (shredded beef) and sweet plantain empanada that we couldn't resist. This is a beautiful little hidden gem in North Arlington on a main avenue that definitely deserves a stop by. I visited today and enjoyed their Mangu breakfast platter, 2 empanadas (flavors vary both sweet and savory), and a cappuccino. They have indoor seating available and the service was excellent! I can't wait to visit again and try their long list of desserts and pastries. You can look into the kitchen from the front counter and it was super clean and organized (always an excellent sign)! I ordered to go: so this review is based on that. It's okay place. Their empanadas where extremely dry. My Cuban sandwich wasn't pressed and had no pickle which is odd knowing the Cuban sandwich is pressed and only has like 5 ingredients bread, ham, roast beef cheese and PICKLE. can't forget the pickle. We got a stuffed potato with beef and the size of this thing was great! But NO beef inside! Like a quarter size. Idk about the service or ambiance. But I guess I'll give them a try again in person because their food is not good to go. We also got fried cheese fries and eggs and their fries was placed in a tin with a lid and that automatically makes their fries soggy. Also they put steaming hot food in a plastic bag because all the paper bags inside were soaked making everything soggy. Do better.Usually when food is good it's good cold too or soggy But that's just my opinion. This was not the case. I spotted a new place on Yelp and wanted to give them a try. Only I wasn't looking for their empanada, what I wanted to try was their pastries when I saw a few photos with guava as part of the name. But first, let me say that I ordered a latte and it was really deliciously flavored the coffee alone was worth the trip here. I staff is friendly, and helpful and they even gave me a Spanish lesson on the proper pronunciation of the pastry names. Being half Puerto Rican & Italian from the Bronx I was using my Nuyorican pronunciation which means only another New York Puerto Rican would know what I was talking about. Well, I did get a mix of some pastries with guava and some also had cream cheese. A Guava Tart that was the size of a small pie, and a caramel-style Napoleon called Mil Hojas. They had bite-size options too, and non-guava pastries and fruit tarts also. Were they the best I ever had, nope, but they were really good and fresh. Considering this place is a restaurant for breakfast, and lunch, that serves a mix of empanadas with baked goods, and a cafe all rolled into one. A local empanada / bakery just popped up in my small town. I've been seeing posts on social media about it and had to finally make my way over. Parking is street parking. It's on a main road but on the corner of a side street, so both times I've been there, parking was very easy. Inside was very clean and all products were clearly displayed in glass cases. A very wide variety of Empanadas were there from your traditional beef or chicken to guava if you're feeling adventurous. I went with the Buffalo Chicken, Columbiana, Sausage and Cheese and beef. As I was getting ready to pay, I noticed a 4 Leche cake and had to try it being that my wife loves tres leches. The two women in there were great. Very helpful as the second time I went, I got a bunch for the Superbowl and they mapped out exactly how to heat them up. The beef was to my surprise not ground beef; instead it was like stew meat, and flavorful but on the dry side. Lately I've been trying empanadas in the areas between Newark and Hackensack, and no GF options exist. I enjoy my own gluten free, but I tire of making them. In any event, if you enjoy a thin crusted empanada, you'll enjoy Empabake - the 2 I tried were quite flavorful, at $3 each, and worth a try - I just prefer a heftier dough. read more
