El Mamut is amazing! I live an hour away from it unfortunately, but let me tell you it's well worth the hour drive! Literally every single item on the menu is delicious and homemade. The restaurant is also spotless and very clean. Service is very attentive and kind. Wish them nothing but the best.
siempre vengo a comer a El mamut y lamentablemente hoy pido la porcion de chicharron solicitando panceta como siempre y me dieron costilla y huesos. Aclarondele panceta... un porcioan que es puro hueso y me dijeron que yo pedi mal.. en ves de dar una solucion y le aclare que siempre como aqui es por eso que vengo( sino hubiese solicitado eso entiendo o me hubieran dicho que no desde un principio) asi que igual pague y me lo lleve ya que no me senti comodo en la manera que me dijeron asi viene siempre.
Visitando Nueva Jersey, mi tia recomendó este lugarcito. La principal razón que vinimos aquí los picarones!! En California no los venden, y sabían muy ricos!! Ordenamos papá rellena, salchipapa, cau cau un poco sorprendida que no lo sirven con arroz . Otra cosa que me gusto la variedad de salsas!! Muy buen lugar, buenos empleados! Buenísimo la comida. P.S El nombre del lugar no tiene sentido con el restaurante lol
The tables are spaced out and they are following Covid protocols. We had to wait about 15 minutes for a table, so we ordered as soon as we sat down and the food came out right away. Then pan con chicharrón was a bit greasy because the chicharrón had a lot of fat on it, but the sweet potato and onions on it tasted great. The tamal de pollo with onions was also very tasty and with hot sauce on top it was great. The hot emoliente was perfect for a nice winter day and the salchipapa was good, but the best was the leche asada. This is a baked milk pudding so it is a mixture of hard and soft as the top part is hard but once you eat it all it's amazing.
Amazing shakes and breakfast sandwich options! I've been coming here for a while now and although it is a bit over priced it is well worth it. Typical Peruvian breakfast sandwiches like the chicharon & huevo con salchicha are the go to's. Also the lomo en jugo with bread on the side is just delicious. Pair any of these with a fresh juice and your set to start your day. The only down sides is that this location is small and normally packed so there is a wait and they aren't the best with a system of sitting people down. Also this is a pretty busy street so parking is the worst. If you come early and are prepared to wait you will enjoy your time here.
What a delicious find! This Peruvian restaurant serves a variety of sandwiches and they are all delicious - from their jamón de país to their chicharrón and eggs- it's hard to pick one! If you want to make a quick stop and take a breakfast sandwich on, i recommend stopping here!
Had I come only to eat an empanada they would've gotten 1 star. I was disappointed as it was dry inside. They seemed to have nuked it in the microwave really drying out the chicken inside. HOWEVER, I came for the sandwiches. I had the asado (steak style) sandwich. I asked them to add lettuce, tomato and avocados. It was very tasty and fresh. The sauce it's cooked in was good and the red onions they used gave it a nice flavor a semi-crunch that really made this a delicious sandwich. Even though I'll never eat an empanada from here again, I probably will return to try out a different sandwich.
I had the beef (carne) Peruvian taco. Really tasty. Nice combination of meat, sweet potatoes, white beans (frijoles) in a tasty but not spicy sauce. They have a sauce list you can choose from. I asked the gentleman who took my order to give me a non spicy sauce. Whatever he put it in the taco was delicious. He made my taco the way he would eat it. They don't take credit card under $10 so I had to run out and get cash but it was so worth it. I will be back to try their chicharrón sandwich. That also looked delicious.

I stopped here for lunch today. I was not really busy. I did notice a few people came to pick up their order. I ordered a Chicaron sandwich and a guanabana shake made with water not milk at the counter. They brought out really fast. The pork in my sandwich was substantial. The guy kept checking on me to see if I needed anything. He offered more hot sauce but I didn't need anymore. There's 3 TV with Spanish channel on. The place is spacious and really clean. I ordered a Lucuma shake with milk for the ride home. I can't really describe guanabana or what lucuma taste like. But they taste good! My 2 shakes and sandwich came out to be $15.50. Not too bad for very authentic Peruvian sandwich. I'd hang out here and sip on a few shakes if there was free wifi offered, but I shouldn't it's Passaic afterall. read more

Let me start by saying that this is the closest you will get to REAL Peruvian food in the area of Passaic. This is my to go place for an after work snack and even a place where I take my friends for coffee. This is a cute little cozy place with an excellent variety of food. I highly recommend the chicken sandwich or Sandwich de pollo con papas al hilo y todas las cremas and don't forget your cup of CHICHA morada to go down with it :) From the burgers to the chicken sandwiches and not to mention their tallarines rojos or even tamales....YOU can't go wrong with any of those choices. Make sure you get yourself a cappuccino after your meal with an ALFAJOR because you obviously never want to skip dessert! AND before you close out the tab...take some chicken and beef empanadas home for lunch to share with your coworkers :) I do have to mention that this place gets pretty packed on Saturday and Sunday mornings due to their popular PICARONES , Chicharrones con camote and Tamales but you won't think twice about the wait. Just come here early enough. You will enjoy! Excellent food, great atmosphere and the service is great! Give it a try :) read more

By far the best Peruvian breakfast or lunch location in Northern NJ. It beats any fast food option in the area. I've tried this place 2/3x a week for the last month and I seem to go back for more. A++ Service.. Make sure you tip your waiter!! read more

This place can definitely bring you to Peru once you taste their food. I'm so glad El Mamut reemerged after the old facility burned down to the ground. Once it opened its doors again, large crowds of people returned for its amazing Peruvian style sandwiches. El Mamut provides more space, a nicer atmosphere (3 flat screen TVs) but the same quality, family-driven service that makes El mamut an outstanding sandwich shop. What do I get? Try the pan con Asado is a signature sandwich from Peru. It's beef slowly cooked to perfection. Just like the ones in Peru. Onions vinaigrette can be put on the side if you like. The empanadas are great too . Baked style. You can take some home. El surtido is a smoothie composed of pineapple, papaya, strawberry, banana and beets. This is a classic Peruvian smoothie. You can take out the sugar that they add if you want. Great way to start your morning. I will come back every time I get a chance as long as they keep providing that excellent customer service. read more

Excellent food!!!! Highly recommend this place to go eat breakfast. I'm a Peruvian , and I can say you will not get disappointed. I've tried this tipical Peruvian sandwich (photo) it was totally what I was expecting. The sweat special Lucuma juice is definitely an option! read more

If you want authentic REAL Peruvian sandwiches then this is your place. The chicken sandwich is perfect shredded breast on a lightly toasted roll & let's not forget the sauces they offer. They also have the best salchipapa...I do not eat salchipapa unless I'm in Peru but this place broke that tradition. read more

The service was good but the chicharrón was kinda hard to eat so I had to leave some on the side and everything was good when I come to New Jersey I always come here and I live in Miami thanks anyway read more
