    Lomo saltado with arroz chaufa
    Virginia T.

I recall seeing this place advertised as a new Peruvian cuisine venue on IG. We decided to go recently during the week figuring it would be quiet. Well it was perfect for our small group of 3 on a weekday because it was quiet and perfect during Covid for us. We ordered chicha morada, lomo saltado, jalea and lomo with arroz chaufa. I hate to say this but it was just OK. We probably should have tried their Peruvian chicken but sadly didn't. Why the 3 stars? Both of our limos included pieces of fatty meat that were not as tender as they should have been. Lomo requires a tender, non fatty meat and our dishes sadly disappointed. They were also a tad bit salty for our taste. The rice had an original taste that although different, again, was a bit too seasoned for our liking. The chicha was good and the jalea was pretty tasty. I give them a 5 for presentation and another 5 for the cool looking vibe and decor. Also I believe they are BYOB because they didn't not have serve alcoholic beverages. Good luck Reventón! Nice place and nice service. Oh and they charge .75 for additional hot sauce. Glad they told us instead of just charging us. Thanks to the cool server who hooked us up when we said no to that second serving BC of the price. Perhaps they should tell patrons in the beginning when they bring it out just in case they pour it al over their appetizers as we did without knowing. Again-thanks for not charging us. We did enjoy the green sauce. Another reason for my 3 star rating -when I received the check, they had already added a 15% tip charge. Just be on the lookout. Fortunately I noticed and only have an additional 5% but could be misleading to those that don't notice. Then again-I'm not familiar with the area-especially Wallington-perhaps that's a norm in that area? Perhaps it's a must have for those that don't Tip? (SHAME ON YOU IF YOU DONt TIP AT Least 20% after taxes)

I came in to buy something quick to snack on & my mom came in too so she could use the bathroom. The cashier refused to tell her where the bathroom was even after I told him I was buying something. He said, "okay, you can just buy a drink or something." I looked at the menu on the board behind him, looking for a pastelito or something similar. Instead I picked up 2 pieces of cake from the fridge & brought it to the counter. The cashier looked surprised, "both?" and rang me up. I didn't get a chance to touch the cake until ~4 hours later, and you could imagine my disappointment when I realized there was mold on it. Maybe this was just a bad day for them. Either way, I don't recommend this spot. They serve peruvian sashimi, and I can only hope they keep that fresher than their refrigerated desserts.

    Causa de camarones

Causa de camarones 100% recomendables. Mi esposo ordeno el ceviche y Lomo saltado delicioso. Buena atencion y ambiente peruano. La atencion y comida sin duda lo recomendamos. Recommend 100% if you are looking for a true peruvian taste and ambience.

I found out a new Peruvian restaurant open in the next town and after seeing a photo of what turns out to be Arroz Chaufa I went to check it out. They describe it as Peruvian-style Chinese fired-rice mixed with eggs, peppers, and scallions. Now, what's the connection with the Chinese? Well, it turns out there was large immigration from China arriving in Peru at the beginning of 1849 resulting today in the fusion of Chinese and Peruvian flavors termed 'Chifa'. The staff was really nice and process my order with the add-on of Beef but you can have Chicken or both with this rice. My order of Arroz Chaufa was huge, the take-out comes with the egg intact so you need to mix it into the rice. I found the taste of fresh peppers, and the flavors of the rice were different than your typical Chinese rice because of the spices used but the connection is still there to Chinese style rice. The menu had many other classic Peruvian dishes so don't just go by what had and check out their menu.

Wow, doordash dropped off the food, and it was still fresh and steamy. The flavors were GREAT! the portions are just as great. I'm already full and barely made a dent and knew I had to take a picture and leave a review . Very impressed! Recommend for anyone local

I wanted to check this place out myself and I was very impressed. The restaurant itself is very elegant and the customer service was great. On top of that, the food was amazing and the prices were okay for the amount and quality. I had the causa and that was incredible. The lomo saltado and the bisteck a lo pobre was really good too.I recommend this restaurant to my friends

Within minutes of eating their food, my husband and I were both vomiting. There was obviously cross contamination. Do not eat there.

The salsa music in the background gave it a nice touch as we enjoy a great appetizers and plentiful meals with phenomenal flavor. Highly suggested to try any of their wide range of plates, including the soups, ceviche, and fish dishes, and classic lomo and steak plates. The salad, including the mango and avocado salad was a hit, especially with the red onion. The only downside is we came on a Tuesday afternoon and the kitchen was understaffed so the food came out a little bit slow. However, everything was hot and still tasted amazing so we really didn't mind waiting for a little bit while catching up. The space is a small restaurant in a shopping plaza and will not easily accommodate parties larger than six. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area and are looking for an upscale twist to classic Peruvian cuisine.

I made a reservation and they've respected my request to be seated inside. The atmosphere inside is very vivid, like the name of the restaurant... it feels like you are in a party. My only wish is that they would play Peruvian music so the experience would be more immersive with the food. The menu is big and one of the things that I've liked was to see a lot of dishes that are not common in a Peruvian Restaurant outside Perú... like Aji de Gallina, Anticuchos and Picarones. Now the most important, the food... the quality was very good, since the plates arrived to our table, the smell and the presentation was a temptation to go all the way in. The ingredients used felt fresh and made to order. Every plate had its own characteristic and flavour... good size too. The "choco lucuma" cake for dessert was a great finish... moisty and the intensity of the chocolate and lucuma flavor to a good ratio. If you have the chance to try it... go for it, you'll not regret.

So I went to the O.G. location, where I learned that one spun off to a different owner. I always appreciate O.G. so I'm glad to find that this one is thriving in Passaic. A little off the beaten track, Leña does offer a parking lot if the street is full. Not too crowded inside - well, see my photos - they sat me at a nice large table of my own and brought over that delicious large corn with spicy green sauce. I don't know the names, but this is delicious. The waitress happily walked me through the menu options and, being Ecuadorian, informed me to what was the most traditional here. I went with Tacu Tacu con... technically Pechuga. * Purple drink: Delicious, authentic, large glass, fresh made, fruity and refreshing. Guy at the other table had a whole pitcher and I might have wanted that over just one glass! * Side of fried cassava: Was told that's how Peruvians like it, and that matches my South American recollection. Delicious with that green sauce. * Tacu was on top of a large fried rice patty. Well, not really a patty, it just broke apart into delicious bites bursting with flavor. Wonderful and authentic. * Tacu chicken itself was pounded thin but seasoned so nicely I couldn't put it down. * Large meal accompanied by lettuce and onions. Even those were somehow delicious - okay, more green sauce was used - but my plate exited my possession completely empty. Wish I had room left to try the dessert, the flan or coco version thereof, but too full of delicious Peruvianism. Glad this was on my must try list, glad I chose this location - I'll be back!
