    Chicharron con camote

This review is only for breakfast available on the weekend. The place is small with beautiful artwork. The portions are good sizes. But the meat in the chicharon was way too big. Which meant the meat did not have flavor. My husband said his tamal was ok. I did see some people having lunch. The portions were big but I can't comment on the flavor. The service was quick.

4 stars for the service and homey interior. 0 stars for the food... I heard so much about Peruvian food I had to try it. So this was my first and last time trying Peruvian cuisine. I ordered the lomo saltado mixto with chicken & beef & potatoes. I thought there would be more pizazz or something unique to the dish since it was 19$. First off, the 'potatoes' were french fries (I could've gone to McDonald's if I wanted potatoes but only for 2$ instead of 19$) that was soggy and oily. Second off: the beef/chicken was dry and tough. The flavor was unspectacular & didn't cover the fact that the protein was tasteless and rough. And yes, the portions are huge since half the plate was white rice!

A beautiful Peruvian mural inside the restaurant!

DISCLAIMER: This one reflects the food, as I picked up a pretty big order to eat at a get-together. So I walked in to pick up the order. We ordered the traditional staples of Peruvian Cuisine - a chaufa mixto (I believe that came with beef, eggs and chicken), lomo saltado, papas with their special traditional yellow sauce. My buddy ordered a steak as well and more fries on the side. I have to say, the ambiance of the place is colorful, and it's big enough to eat in there as they had about 5 tables that could seat 4 and 1 that could seat 6. They also have a big screen TV and men's and women's bathroom. They also have a very colorful setting, as I got Amazonian vibes from the restaurant and I was digging it. It felt like somewhat of a departure of the typical Peruvian red and white colors you may see in other other establishments. The restaurant while may look small from the outside it really isn't a hole in the wall. The service was good, as the cashier person let me know to wait as the big order wasn't quite ready. When it was ready less than 5 minutes later, I paid by card and she let me know there will be the merchant service fee. No problem! They packaged everything up nicely and I went to the get-together. We. Ate. Everything! Everything tasted top notch. Everything was also piping hot. My buddy enjoyed his steak, the Lomo was cooked perfectly, the papas were delicious and the chaufa needs to be an American staple it was that good. The cuisine lived up to its reputation and I can't recommend them enough. I left our friend's house stuffed. Long story short: Myrna's is where it's at, please treat yourself to this place!

    Jalea Personal

The only thing I liked about the place was the waitress, she was so kind. Rather than that wow!! Where do I start..... two weeks ago I visited this same restaurant, but the Kearny location and my family and I were thrilled. We decided to go to the North Arlington location this time, because why not and the food was awful we had chaufa rice that tasted like soy sauce that's it soy sauce. Old seafood in the jalea , I almost choked on a calamari they were so hard and chewy. Forget about the lomo saltado. There was mini, tiny pieces of meat literally nothing. So sad and disrespectful for a $20 dollar plate. It's embarrassing, why open another location if you're not going to offer the same food quality?

New local Peruvian spot that is comin in HOT found it on Google, not so much poppin here on Yelp about it (YET) but when we walked in on a Friday at 5pm, it was already packed! We waited a good 10 minutes & began to realize that you had to know some Spanish hahaa, luckily...soy listo para practicar! The space is beautiful, quite a large dining area & lovely hand painted tables & chairs & walls of Peruvian scenery from Parque del Amor, to the Andes & the jungle. I loved looking at their decor! We got a table & noticed all around us were massive portions, which is the usual but I loveeee the idea of family style & sharing plates. So we got a mild mixto ceviche which was so0o limey, fresh & tender! And then, a jalea personal! WOWIES! So0o golden, toasty & diverse: calamar, shrimp, mussels, fish, kelp or seaweed, yuca & a crabby CRAB!! And lastly, the chaufa especial which has beef, chicken & shrimp-- so0o undeniably tasty. The beef could've been slightly more tender, but I was just transported back to Peru! Even after notifying the waitress about requesting the check, it felt like they were ignoring us because we waited perhaps another 10 minutes for it that I flagged another waitress asking for it again, but she didn't get it made us wait a little longer... no one came around, so I asked for a to-go box but that also took a while until I decided to just get up & walk to where they were at the cashier & motioned the check & a caja. Finally did we actually get things moving! I was told they just opened 1.5 months ago & look at how successful they've gotten! I highly recommend just keep in mind the wait with some patience!

    Seafood chaufa. Delicious

Some new options in North Arlington and I have to say while the place isn't very big you dont feel crowded. I'm no expert in Peruvian food but what I just had was absolutely delicious. Had the mixed seafood chaufa and a spicy mixed seafood ceviche (in my opinion one of the best tasting and tender ceviche I've had) I will def be back to try some other menu options. Saw one table with a mixed fried seafood platter which looks right up my alley and will be on the try list. FYI hours are somewhat limited towards the dinner side but if you get in before 8pm it seems like u won't be turned away. They are open for breakfast and lunch as well.

I waited 30 minutes for my food and finally just left very hungry. They were serving people who arrived 5 minutes after I ordered.

They have a few tables inside but it looks like most of their business is takeout. There were some TVs mounted on the walls and they were playing what I assume were Peruvian channels. I ordered the paradilla familiar, yucca frita, chaufa de pollo, and fries. The food took a little longer to come out than but it was a lot of food. The paradilla included 1/4 pollo, chuleta, 2 anticucho, pancita, choncholi, rachi, chorizo, churrasco con papa dorada y choclo. Everything went great with the big bottle of aji and mayo they gave us. It was way too much food for 3 people plus sides. We had plenty of leftovers. This location is closer to home than the Elizabeth one so I can definitely see myself picking up from here.

Each call was sent straight to voicemail and no one answered. I was forced to go to the store in person to find out what was happening. Upon arrival, I was told that staff were too busy to answer the phone. This is unacceptable. Being busy does not justify ignoring customer calls, especially for a business that offers delivery services. This situation reflects poor customer service.
