Pollo a la brasa con arroz y frijoles

Dropped by El Gordo for dinner on a cold Saturday. It's a small hole in the wall restaurant with a few seats, I'm guessing most of their business is take out orders. They brought their aji verde, or Peruvian green chili sauce, first. I love aji sauce, since it's a little salty and spicy. It goes well with my usual pollo a la brasa, which came with a side of rice and beans. It was pretty dry. Surprisingly, they even managed to dry out the dark, thigh meat. It was seasoned well, but the dry, overcooked meat was a turn off. The rice and beans were pretty standard. Not bad, but not great. I've gotten better Peruvian food in more comfortable restaurants for better prices.

I paid $16, almost $17 for a small plate of lomo saltado that bought a little portion of rice and barely any meat . Never again

I paid $16 almost $17 for this small meal . Feel ripped off none the less . You would expect it to be enough to feed two people at least but this was disappointing. They act as if it's a fancy restaurant in the suburbs when it's not . Way too overpriced and the portions are small . Never again

I always go her for lunch since it is only a few blocks walking distance from my job. There are days in which they are busy but i have never waited for a table! Their lunch specials are always different but always as delicious! The usual soup, entree and drink deal for $7.25, who can go wrong with that. And their portion are also very good. When I don't feel like having the lunch special I go for a traditional peruvian dish such as the lomo or a chaufa. I think the best thing I like about this restaurant is that with a 30 minute lunch (which is sooooo short) I can get in and out regardless what I order without having to rush eating my food and it always tastes delicious! The servers are super nice as well they are always making sure you are ok and if you need something else. P.S. They have a card limit of $10 so make sure to bring cash if your only going for the lunch special

Came by a couple times and loved the food here. Tried the lomo saltado and tallarin verde con pollo. Delicious! They give you a big portion for a good price. Staffs are super friendly and helpful with recommendations.

    Freshly made chicha.

Another good local restaurant. My mom said that she used to go here for their chicken many years ago when she lived here in New Jersey. Got the chicken. All I have to say is, it was really good. Flavorful. Some parts of it were kind of dry but I'm not that nit picky. Salad that came on the side was refreshing. Good hot sauce too. Tried their chicha and it was absolutely delicious. Tasted like it was just made. You can't go wrong with fresh chicha. Friendly little establishment that feels very welcoming. I rate 5/5.

Horrible customer service. We ordered our appetizer and once we finished the male waiter came to the table and asked what else we were waiting for. Um, how about the rest of our food?!?They charge you for the extra sauce in their already bland chicken. The waitress refilled our sauce and says shes charging for the sauce, after she fills it. How about you tell me before you fill it. This is the last time that I visit this location. Very sarcastic employees and dirty ambience. If you cant handle the demand of your patrons then you shouldn't be in business

We were greeted and said we could sit anywhere and told no yellow rice and chorizo. Except for decor a mural of Old San Juan nothing authentic but we are here for the food. Ordered chorizo and maduros Empanadas appetizer tripeleta sandwich with side of tostones. Wife had Mofongo with shrimp. Empanada was really good never had that combo before so good start. Triplelta is steak pork and chicken and super soft hero/pan bread. Nice flavor tostones were big and were accompanied by a garlic white sauce. I like just ajo in oil which they did not have. Wifes mofongo was a little salty as were the jumbo shrimp in white sauce. She did receive a wonderful citrus dressing which she used on the little salad which she loved. We took most of it home since we were not looking to fill up prior to the casino. Saw a few people order takeout not sure if that makes up a large part of business or not. My wife and I have been in hospitality for 30 years and if you see a new face wouldn't you want to welcome them and thank them for trying out the restaurant? I think so. Not sure if it was owner or manager but he spoke to the one other table throughout our meal. I think he missed an opportunity to talk with us about our experience. Waitress spoke only English which is stark contrast to every Spanish restaurant in Brooklyn where we lived for 30 years. My wife is Puerto Rican so she was looking for that connection to no avail. So to close the food was decent but not sure I would make the trip back. We will keep trying til we find a real Spanish restaurant.

These had a lack of that, The alcapuras were nice and crispy and had flavor, but one seasoning used was unfamiliar, and they didn't need to add it. As per my sofito burger that had avocado, fried cheese, some sort of aioli really wasn't a marriage for me. It did not all go together. The ground meat was too thick and bland. I guess if you're starving, it'll taste good. Yuca fries were thick and hard. My husband's entree was better tasting but wasn't hot. The parcha juice was a 10/10.

It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Sazon Latino is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Sazon Latino offers free off-street parking in a small lot behind the restaurant and there's plenty of free on-street parking on Main Street.

But you go to a restaurant for the food. And my food was a 2 with the wind behind it. I had the Chicken Extremena, which is chicken filets with onions, red peppers, potatoes and Spanish sausage. Yes, all those ingredients were in the dish. It was too salty although it did have a bit of a kick. All in all, the ingredients didn't blend well, it sort of seemed like they were thrown together and doused in a generic . A friend had the Veal Corunesa, which is veal and mushrooms sauteed in brandy sauce. She stated that a fine piece of veal was cut into little pieces, overcooked and swimming in brandy sauce. Now, the people who ordered the pan fried filet of fish and the pork chops had good meals. But the chef should be able to do something other than panfry and broil. Last point, I had a chocolate brownie with walnuts and vanilla ice cream for dessert. I am know for my proclivity to eat anything chocolate.
