I went for a solo lunch at Jack's, and had a very pleasant experience. I was greeted and sat right away. The decor is upscale beachy. It's very appealing and my seat was comfortable. They have a nice drink selection, and I ordered a delicious Mint and Watermelon Lemonade. For lunch I had their Lobster Bomb with a side of Coleslaw. The Lobster Bomb is 6oz of perfectly cooked warm lobster, tucked into a pillowy, round loaf of sourdough. The bisque is served in a container on the side. Every element of this dish is exceptional. I found that the best way to eat it was to rip off pieces of the bread and dunk it into the bisque. Same with the lobster pieces. The Coleslaw was nice and crisp. For dessert, I had a Mini Pecan Pie. This was just okay. Maybe try a different dessert. The Lobster Bomb is definitely a treat at $49, but it's worth it. I would return. read more

Amazing experience, ordering takeout from Jack's. A generous portion of fries and I appreciated that they gave me lots of extra tartar sauce per my request. I love the seasoning on them and they were hot and crispy. The side of lobster bisque with the mini lobster rolls with such a nice touch. I hope to dine in person soon! read more

Got the fries topped with this deliscious homemade cream of New England clam chowder poured right on top of the fries! So so good! Nice size portion and that's all I needed for lunch. Can't wait to get the full meal another time for lunch or dinner. Ambiance is welcoming and puts you in the mood for a lobster or seafood meal.. A seashore feel but in the north. They're a BYOB establishment. They also had a toys for tots collection box up front along with the Christmas display. I would go back to Jack's Surf & Turf anytime... read more

One of the many restaurants in Montclair. Food is great and tastes very fresh. Service lacks a little, but or waiter might have been new as well they seemed unsure. BYOB place. Mostly seafood but since a few options if you don't like seafood. Paid street parking M-S, Sundays are free. There is some parking across the street at the art museum. read more

Went for a girls night out with a few friends. Wasn't 100% if they were BYOB so I called ahead. Was a nice night out. The fried calamari was cooked perfectly. I had the garlic butter and lemon lobster roll which was fantastic. I did find a piece of shell in my lobster meat however. The gelato I had for dessert was great! Having an ice bucket for our wine was a nice touch, wish more places did that. read more

Jack's Surf & Turf - Seafood & Steak - Lobster Roll Platter - Seafood Near Me - Montclair, New Jersey

We had lunch here yesterday. Our server was very nice and sweet. I thought pricing for seafood was very fair. Quality of seafood was fresh and our food was very good. The New England clam chowder was excellent as were our lobster rolls. Cute inside with two separate areas to sit. Clean. Parking on Bloomfield Ave, side streets, or the museum next door. I'd come back for sure! read more

Ordered three lobster rolls and a clam chowder. Total was $187, how is that possible? When asked I was told we ordered the $45 lobster rolls. The soup was supposed to be a 12 oz portion-it wasn't. Dead lobsters in the tank, disgusting. Total rip off. Will never return. read more

Extremely impressed with the ambience and decorum inside. You are greeted with a unique restaurant makeup with one classier dining area and one more casual location within the building. I love the vibes and the getup that Jacks is trying to display; it's very welcoming. The food is no different. It's delicious and unique and I honestly want to return to use a more formal and thorough dining experience. Loved this place! read more

We sat in the section down the steps and it was cold. The dishes were tasty- crispy onion rings, soft and crispy calamari and generous lobster on the rolls. But that brownie was a no for me. It was crumbly instead of soft. However, the hazelnut gelato was delish! read more

I went to grab a lobster roll after seeing their $19 promo on IG. I took my dog with me in hopes we could have a nice dinner outside. I haven't been back since 2023 so apparently things and ownership has changed. When I opened the door they was white tablecloths on the tables, a little trio playing music. I was in shorts and had my dog haha I felt so out of place! For one, apparently no more outdoor dining. I went and put my dog in the car and decided I'd just get to go. You have to walk through the nice dining area to get to the more casual side. The owner was there and helpful, he went through the options with me and I ended up getting the lemon garlic butter roll, clam chowder and fries. $40 total The owner started talking to me about the changes they had made, very friendly and even offered to bring a table outside for me and the pup to eat at! But it was really dark, and the restaurant is on a corner. It took me 20 mins to get home, by then the fries were room temp and soggy - what can you do. But also there was a seasoning on them I didn't like, not sure what it was. The chowder was good, good chunks of clam and potatoes The roll - tbh, I didn't hate it but I didn't love it either. I can't put my finger on what it was but I didn't love the flavor - but someone else might. I should have just gone with original tbh. Overall the service was very friendly and the food is not bad but probably a better idea to stay and eat there next time. read more

The menu offers many choices, atmosphere is nice and airy, my Son liked the 70's, 80's music in the background. I had a cup of Manhattan Clam Chowder. I thank our Server, Edwin for giving me a cup, while the menu only lists a bowl. The chowder was good, but not the best I've ever had. The lobster roll was great! I got the one that comes with melted garlic butter. You can choose your size and I chose,"Junior", which you can see from my photo was not too small or too big, but just right. My Son had the grilled salmon. He gets salmon everywhere he goes. He said he'd give this one a B. It comes with mixed vegetables and be advised there were plenty of Brussel sprouts, which was okay with him, though not a vegetable popular with everyone. I get a Bellini wherever I go and this one was top notch, A+. My only complaint is they only serve it in a very large carafe, too much for one person. I ran into the same problem when I tried to switch to sparkling rose, only sold by the bottle. I've never run into that problem before. I will return for the lobster roll. But next time I'll have to bring two friends to share the carafe! read more

Jack's Surf & Turf is our absolute favorite spot! This hidden gem in Montclair, NJ, is AMAZING! Over the years, we've celebrated countless Girls' night-out birthdays here, and it never disappoints. From the moment you arrive until the time you leave, every detail is perfect. Greg, the owner, is incredibly welcoming & attentive; he treats us like family. The vibe is truly inviting, super amazing & memorable! Wide variety of fresh / expertly cooked seafood, grilled steaks, salads, soups, OMG lobster mac & cheese, burgers, tacos, and scrumptious desserts! Everything is delicious, and prices are more than reasonable, outstanding value! Highly recommend making a reservation, especially on weekends. You can BYOB; however, their wine selection is impressive as well. Generous portions, secure parking, and impeccably clean restrooms. Servers are always friendly and accommodating, happily fulfilling special requests. Nice music & occasional live entertainment enhance the experience. We always start with our favorite Arugula salad - generous portions. House salad, also incredible! We adore Garlic Old Bay Shrimp appetizers, fried calamari, crab cakes, BUTTERY lobster rolls, OMG! For our entrées, we couldn't resist going all in! Linguine in Garlic Sauce, steamed clams, mussels, grilled salmon! PLEASE order Key Lime pie!! What impresses me most is Greg's passion & creativity in delivering exceptional, high-quality food. I promise you won't be disappointed, spotlessly clean, superior food, and exceptionally friendly customer-centric service! SPECIAL Shout out to Bilge, our server was OUTSTANDING on Saturday, 6/13/26! -Ambiance was less casual than it seemed from pictures (which to me looked more like a "seafood shack" type vibe) -Food was decent but pricey: -1lb king crab: $70 per pound. side of potato wedges and boiled corn. good flavor but nothing special, just boiled well. -grilled octopus: tender but barely any flavor. Did not even taste grilled unlike all other grilled octopus plates I have had. Accompanying salad was good. -pan seared shrimp: good flavor with a little kick of spice. Would give it a 3.5. Overall it was good but it was cooked pretty basic so not much room error when boiling. Seems quite overpriced for the caliber. Would rather splurge elsewhere. read more

Food: clam strips were very chewy than what we're typically accustomed to, also they didn't taste like they came fresh out of the fryer so the temperature was off putting; hubby had the lobster roll CT style - he said it was average and tasted bland not seasoned well; their coleslaw was the tastiest thing he had; I had the grilled shrimp with the house salad; pretty decent in portion $10 for 8 shrimp Service: friendly, warm, they even took the clam strips off the bill as we barely touched it and we said we didn't like it Ambiance: spacious, nautical vibes read more

Such delicious and fresh food. Quick service. Would highly recommend for any special occasion.

This restaurant is honestly a joke. The food came out half-cooked, which is unacceptable, though I'll admit the garlic sauce was the one redeeming part of the meal. We ordered a crab boil that was extremely underwhelming--just three shrimp, six mussels, five clams, and a single crab claw that wasn't even intact. On top of that, we had sangria, plus a takeout order of soup and two lobster rolls. Somehow, the bill came out to over $400. What really made the experience worse was the automatic gratuity added for just two people. When we questioned it, the waitress explained it was because the bill exceeded $300. We were both shocked--how does a basic lunch order like oysters, two crab boils, and drinks even reach that amount? Adding automatic gratuity on top of that felt excessive. When we asked Bilge to speak with a manager, we were told there wasn't one available and that she was the person in charge. That response alone speaks volumes about the level of customer service. Overall, this place is not worth your time or money. Between the poor food quality, inflated prices, and lack of proper customer service, you're much better off going somewhere else where you'll pay less and actually enjoy your meal. read more

Ordered for take out the lobster roll. The warm one was absolutely delicious. The bread was nice and soft with an outside crunch to it ...loved it. I would definitely buy it again and I also got the chips with it which are basically potato chips that I think they probably do homemade and also the Manhattan clam chowder soup was absolutely amazing. Definitely hit the spot and satisfied my cravings thank you Jack surf and turf. You'll definitely see me again next time ! read more

Food was good Ambience pleasant, nice Jazz Combo playing Service was poor. I saw that their website said they offered twin lobster tails as an entree. On arrival, they were no where to be found on paper menu. Then hostess told us they must be available as they were on the chalk board menu in the kitchen. When I tried to order them I was told that the chalkboard menu was meaningless. So I settled for a surf and turf, with a skirt steak and half lobster. I requested the skirt steak rare. When the dish was served, oddly only two pieces looked rare and they were the ends. My bad for not pointing it out sooner, when i asked for the check, I pointed out to the server that there was nothing rare about the steak. Her response was "OK" . Not a drop of empathy, nor concern. I won't be back. read more

This restaurant never lets us down. This is our local seafood go-to place. The branzino is the always a great choice as is the Korean inspired pasta dish. We usually go with friends and share at least 2 of the desserts - little pie combos and brownie sundaes. Jack's is a nice quiet place to relax on a Friday night after a long week and offers live jazz music - 2 piece arrangement - a nicety to end the week. Yes, it's a must go-to at any time during the year. read more

I came with my friend two weeks ago to enjoy this place that I have been looking to go to for the last two years and it was OUTSTANDING. Food: we did not hold back with our food choices. I went with a blueberry lemonade, avocado lobster roll, lobster, bisque, and Key lime pie for dessert. Every bite of every food was superb. The lobster bisque was full of lobster, great balance. The lobster roll went down quick because it was delicious. The key lime pie rounded out the meal. Aesthetic: nautical themed with a lot of seating. Definitely an awesome place for a dinner date or just to get fresh seafood. Service: a guy helped all of the tables out since it was an early lunch time. Super nice and helped us out frequently. read more

This place is nice and has great service. The seafood is fresh too. I had the Fried Oyster appetizer which was DELICIOUS. They were juicy and bigger than I was expecting. For the entree I had the fettuccine Alfredo with lobster with a side of ratatouille and I can see why people say the Alfredo is bland. However I've experienced this type of "bland" pasta at a real nice Italian restaurant before so I'm more forgiving. I do think they should have a "Cajun" option that provides more flavor and a hint of spice. As for the Ratatouille, I'm used to it being less chopped/crunchy and more "mushy"/soft so I probably won't order that again. On the other day I had the cod fish sandwich which was a bit underwhelming. I think the proper bread for this is a brioche bun instead of ciabatta bread which soaked up the tartar sauce and made it a bit dry. Anywho the service is excellent and I will definitely be back. read more

Amazing food! I got the lobster roll (Connecticut style) and the po boy (with shrimp) and both were outstanding! No long wait either.

Not quite five stars but so close! I'll be back for sure. It was a relatively slow day that my fiance and I went and the only reason I can't give five stars is because we probably waited a good 20 to 30 minutes after we were done eating to get the check. Slow service aside, the food was great and the atmosphere is quaint, if a bit odd to see pallets screwed into the ceiling. read more

My husband and I went for lunch, we were pleased to find out they have lunch specials. You can get selected entrees with either a soup, salad or beverage. I got it with the soup, a cup of lobster bisque, very pretty but I didn't capture a photo. I wouldn't get the bisque with a sandwich again because although tasty, it's very creamy, very heavy and it filled me up so I couldn't enjoy my sandwich as much. Next time, I'll combo the beverage. My husband very much enjoyed his lobster roll, it was very good. read more

I don't know if it's me and I don't know how to order or the food but the lobster roll I ordered (Connecticut style) was a bit underwhelming. The lobster tasted very dry and I had to mash in the coleslaw in order to finish it. The truffle fries were good though and they gave a lot but I was here primarily for the lobster roll. Maybe next time I'll try the lobster mac and cheese? lobster bisque? I dunno...I feel like I expected to be amazed after not having lobster rolls in YEARS. pretty good spot. we sat out side .. service was tentative, we enjoyed the clams in white wine garlic sauce, lobster bisque and the sliders. clams were pretty good, had onions in it so that was a cool twist. however they took about 20 minutes to come out.. the bisque was good- heavy and creamy. the sliders were also yummy- ( we substituted our sliders and opted for only lobster vs lobster crab and shrimp, for a slight up charge) I had the linguine with only lobster. it was ok. the linguine was strange, starchy almost? and had a different taste to it.. I didn't hate it but I probably won't get that again. hubby had the lobster grilled cheese which he thought was delightful.. will definitely be back to try other options as the menu is pretty large! parking was easy got a spot right In front and it was not crowded for a Saturday night read more

The ambiance was cool and the service was a little slow, but the food left much to be desired. I had what was supposedly a crab cake, Maine Lump Crab Cake at that. It was a bunch of breading on a bed of tomatoes in a balsamic glaze. I don't even know what the green stuff was supposed to be, but none of the flavors, which were all awful separately, went together. The truffle flies had no truffle flavor. The lobster bisque had what tasted like imitation crab meat on it and was just meh. The only thing that was good wasn't even made there. The Maine Root Blueberry Soda was delish. read more
