Recently came back to this gem to get some Donofrio Paneton and chocolate bars to make hot chocolate for the holidays. They took all the Peruvian wall art off!!! Nooooo!!!The new Renovation looks great and more spacious, but I def loved the old feel this place had, I had some tamales con pancito with my mom and kids for a quick bite and boy, was it delicious!! Their tamales are sooooo good. Definitely the best Peruvian style Tamale I've had in the states. I feel like I'm in Lima when I am here. I love that feeling. The Peruvian accents and all of the Peruvian goodies they sell. Inca Kola, Kola Inglesa, Donofrio products, Casino and picaras, choclo frizado! They even have frozen cuy! I also discovered they have chocotejas Helena!!!! This place is an awesome little gem! I love it! If you'r missing Peru, take a ride here with an open mind! I love in NY and it's always worth the trek!

If you were ever kidnapped into the heart of Peruvian country in Paterson then just hope you have your last meal here. They serve the best tasting Peruvian tamale ever. I'm not sure if they make it at the place or not. I've known places to purchase tamales from grandmas and boil and serve it at the restaurant. It's the best tamale because the massa is infused with that chili thing (spice) with a lot of lard or fat that makes the tamale so tender and unlumpy. and it doesn't have that off pudding olive I grew up hating. The chicarron sandwich is also very good because they bake their bread fresh there. The sandwich also has sliced yams and pickled onion which complements the fatty pork meat. They also give you lots of onions with the tamale. There's also a build your on sandwich option. They give you a disassembled platter of ingredients for more $$. I know you might not believe me because I'm Asian but I was assembled in Peru before I was smuggled to the United States by my parents and assimilated with everyone else. So, there's some credibility to my Peruvian food knowledge. As you enter, walk pass the small grocery part in the room and walk towards the back where all the tables are. You don't have to punch the strongest and biggest guy there but sit down and order yourself a tamale and the chicarron sandwich. You will feel like the man when you munch on this meal. The coffee is watered down with a lot of milk. You might want to ask for it on the side. For Paterson, The bathroom is impeccability clean. It kinda helps if you know Spanish. But. if you don't just show them pictures on your yelp app. I need to find more gems like this. Hit me up! And I can knockout the nastiest guy there and be DUKE!

This place is the best for authentic mom pops Peruvian cuisine. It's definitely a dive... the seating area isn't the cleanest which Is the only reason I give this place 4 stars because food wise, it is delicious! Love their pan con jamon, pan con chicharon (my favorite), pan con pollo and their lomo al jugo served with bread. Yummm

Love their tamales Saturday morning for breakfast. With their bread. And for winter times add a hot coco next to it.

My uncle brought me in today because he swears by this place and gets excited to go before work each day. As soon as you walk in the smell and the aroma immediately smacks you in the face. I went here last year around Thanksgiving as I have been a big fan of this bakery for many years. I actually drive almost 30 minutes for treats to bring my family for the holidays. It was busy when I went in and a I waited in line for my turn. Once the man in front of me ordered, and the young blonde girl behind the counter called next, I went to place my order and the man in front of me mistakenly thought he could have her do the rest of his order. I still tried to get her attention, but she refused to even look at me. Here I will note that I look very different from the other patrons in the bakery at the time... take that for what it's worth. The other workers saw this happening, and didnt acknowledge how I was being ignored by this girl. The middle aged woman who works there, who I have bought from for years, then went to help the person after me... what kind of service is that? The crazy thing is the man in front of me even apologized for what he did because he was confused by what was going on, and the middle aged women STILL DID NOT HELP ME. I always thought she was a manager or owner... perhaps she doesn't like people with my skin color. Who knows. Finally, after an upsetting amount of time where I was feeling humiliated, a brown haired girl (with absolutely great eye makeup said she would help me). Good to know one decent person works there. I used to go there regularly when I worked in the area and stopped going as often, but I will never go again and have stopped recommending it to others. For the area, there are plenty of bakeries without people like this blonde girl, who would love to have a diverse group clientele who doesn't look just like them :) Avoid this place if you don't want to be treated like a second class citizen. The way I was treated was disgusting and shameful.

They also have a chocolate shop next door. When I walked inside of the bakery, I felt transported to a pastry shop in France. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was super busy. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a latte and a scone. The scone was very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend ordered a frozen hot chocolate and a chocolate éclair. I tried a bit of the éclair and we both agreed that it was the star of the show. I normally am not a big éclair person but this one was so chocolatey and rich. It was filled with this creamy, fresh chocolate filling. I strongly dislike the store bought cream filling that they are usually piped with. We sat at one of the little tables on the sidewalk outside since the weather was nice. I will be back if I am in the area and in the mood for a sweet treat!

We snagged one as people were getting up. I got a napoleon and another dessert that was chocolate mouse with Carmel and a biscuit cookie on the bottom. It was soo good. Really fluffy but also creamy and rich. Highly recommend this place if you love chocolate! I spent near $30 for a small hot chocolate, a cookie, pastry and mini cake. So it is expensive! But worth it once in a while. And they have a bathroom in the back!
