Recently came back to this gem to get some Donofrio Paneton and chocolate bars to make hot chocolate for the holidays. They took all the Peruvian wall art off!!! Nooooo!!!The new Renovation looks great and more spacious, but I def loved the old feel this place had, I had some tamales con pancito with my mom and kids for a quick bite and boy, was it delicious!! Their tamales are sooooo good. Definitely the best Peruvian style Tamale I've had in the states. I feel like I'm in Lima when I am here. I love that feeling. The Peruvian accents and all of the Peruvian goodies they sell. Inca Kola, Kola Inglesa, Donofrio products, Casino and picaras, choclo frizado! They even have frozen cuy! I also discovered they have chocotejas Helena!!!! This place is an awesome little gem! I love it! If you'r missing Peru, take a ride here with an open mind! I love in NY and it's always worth the trek!

If you were ever kidnapped into the heart of Peruvian country in Paterson then just hope you have your last meal here. They serve the best tasting Peruvian tamale ever. I'm not sure if they make it at the place or not. I've known places to purchase tamales from grandmas and boil and serve it at the restaurant. It's the best tamale because the massa is infused with that chili thing (spice) with a lot of lard or fat that makes the tamale so tender and unlumpy. and it doesn't have that off pudding olive I grew up hating. The chicarron sandwich is also very good because they bake their bread fresh there. The sandwich also has sliced yams and pickled onion which complements the fatty pork meat. They also give you lots of onions with the tamale. There's also a build your on sandwich option. They give you a disassembled platter of ingredients for more $$. I know you might not believe me because I'm Asian but I was assembled in Peru before I was smuggled to the United States by my parents and assimilated with everyone else. So, there's some credibility to my Peruvian food knowledge. As you enter, walk pass the small grocery part in the room and walk towards the back where all the tables are. You don't have to punch the strongest and biggest guy there but sit down and order yourself a tamale and the chicarron sandwich. You will feel like the man when you munch on this meal. The coffee is watered down with a lot of milk. You might want to ask for it on the side. For Paterson, The bathroom is impeccability clean. It kinda helps if you know Spanish. But. if you don't just show them pictures on your yelp app. I need to find more gems like this. Hit me up! And I can knockout the nastiest guy there and be DUKE!

This place is the best for authentic mom pops Peruvian cuisine. It's definitely a dive... the seating area isn't the cleanest which Is the only reason I give this place 4 stars because food wise, it is delicious! Love their pan con jamon, pan con chicharon (my favorite), pan con pollo and their lomo al jugo served with bread. Yummm

Love their tamales Saturday morning for breakfast. With their bread. And for winter times add a hot coco next to it.

I've been hearing about Sook for quite some time and finally had the chance to check it out. Sook…read moreis located on one of the side streets off East Ridgewood Avenue (walking distance). They also have a chocolate shop next door. When I walked inside of the bakery, I felt transported to a pastry shop in France. I visited on a Sunday afternoon and it was super busy. Service was quick and efficient. I ordered a latte and a scone. The scone was very delicious and fresh. My boyfriend ordered a frozen hot chocolate and a chocolate éclair. I tried a bit of the éclair and we both agreed that it was the star of the show. I normally am not a big éclair person but this one was so chocolatey and rich. It was filled with this creamy, fresh chocolate filling. I strongly dislike the store bought cream filling that they are usually piped with. We sat at one of the little tables on the sidewalk outside since the weather was nice. I will be back if I am in the area and in the mood for a sweet treat!

While the dessert was good, the staff is not aware of allergens in desserts. All three people at…read morethe front, although they were very nice, assured me there were no nuts in "Spring" dessert. They said there could be cross contamination. Cross contamination is no issue for me, as I informed them, but I need to know if there are nuts actually inside as an ingredient. One person said only one item on their dessert menu contained nuts, and when I mentioned that many contained hazelnut they seemed surprised to learn that hazelnut is in fact a tree nut. Lo and behold, the chocolate dacquoise inside the Spring dessert contained nuts and I got an anaphylactic reaction as a result and needed to take my EpiPen. The bite I had was very yummy but almost took me out so I'll still keep two stars for the baking itself. However, staff NEEDS to know what contains very common and deadly allergens.
