So happy my husband brought me here. When I was a kid, my dad would get us coffee, bread, and Batidos de trigo (wheat shakes) for Saturday breakfast. We left my childhood neighborhood and it has been years since I was able to find a similar shake . This hit me right in the nostalgia! Perfectly sweet and very filling! I am appalled by how this restaurant is being run I went into to eat lunch with my sister and niece and I was approached by the lady behind the counter saying we only serve sandwiches. I was like ok no worries we will sit down and have sandwiches. My sister went to use the bathroom and the same lady behind the counter started laughing and so did the old man behind the counter which was a customer. I did not feel welcomed in this establishment once my sister came back from the bathroom I refused to sit down and eat and decided to leave. I felt that they were mocking us and I refuse to be treated this way in a restaurant. I've been coming here since I was very young for their sandwiches and freshly squeezed juices. Their cafe serves a mix of Cuban and Dominican meals. They have a small buffet where you can order oxtail, mangu, beans and rice, pollo guisado and various other dishes. Their cane, orange juice with lime is my favorite paired with one of those sandwiches. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I highly recommend here if you're in the area. read more

I literally experienced nostalgia when I walked into this place. I use to visit this place as a small kid and the food and coffee still taste the perhaps better! I ordered a coffee and sandwich from here today and let's just say: addicted. The food was so good and the service was great. On Saturday, April 15, 2023, I called Omar's Cafe and ordered a steak sandwich for pick up. I picked up the sandwich, paid for it, and ran home to eat it. As soon as I opened it, there was a SCREW in my sandwich. I was in disbelief and I went to Omar's immediately. They were insensitive and asked if I put that screw there myself. I asked to speak to the owner and they said he wasn't there. I asked for them to call him so I can speak to him but they refused. They told me either they'll give me the $10 back or they'll make me another sandwich. They also said if I choose the sandwich, I need to sit there and stay quiet. This is so unbelievable and my family or friends will never be returning. Omar's is always busy. If you ain't got the time the best option is to call ahead. They make a mean sandwich. I've tried a fair variety of them and all have been very good. They also have other prepared food but if you're just stopping by the sandwiches are the way to go. Portions are huge and filling and prices are more than reasonable. I would recommend if you're in the area. Also, I feel the need to point out that Omar's also makes a very potent espresso that no one on here seems to be mentioning. I usually have an early start to my mornings and the espresso here has gotten me through a few tough ones. Very strong, wouldn't recommend if you're a light weight. read more

Solid, SOLID cuban sandwiches. Docking one star because toward the end of the day they severely limit their extensive menu. Placed an order around 6:20 on a weekday and they pretty much ran out of everything but sandwiches. I will have to come back to try the ropa vieja and their breakfast, though. Food: Ordered the Pan con bistec and Pan con pollo, with everything. They pack these sandwiches with a ton of meat, lettuce, tomato, and potato sticks (which btw should be in every damn sandwich ever). The meat in both sandwiches were tasty and tender, and the bread is nice, soft, and crisp. The sandwiches are huge and can in some instances be considered two servings full. I thoroughly enjoyed the sandwiches and have nothing to complain about. Also tried the Yucca in garlic sauce. DELICIOUS. Bursting with garlic flavor, some soft onions mixed in as well. They only had ham and cheese empanadas, which were very crunchy and satisfactory, but nothing to write home about. Service is quick and friendly. The decor in the place is super cute! Will definitely come back to try more stuff, but I can attest to the sandwiches being bomb dot com (do people still say that anymore? eh). read more

Great food for a great price! Paid only $7 for ropa vieja and the portion was very large (came with maduros, white rice, black beans, ropa vieja). It was enough for my lunch AND dinner that same day. The tostada is good and you can tell it is Cuban bread. The only reason I give one less star is that we tried ordered certain items and they didn't have any of them (I would say at least 3 items). So be prepared to order something else. Additionally, service isn't the best, but (honestly) one should expect that when going to a mom & pop Hispanic cafe/restaurant. AWESOME. Came here with my gf before heading to Branch Brook Park (which is minutes away), and we both got the steak sandwiches. The steak was pretty good (not the best), but the Kraft Singles-esque slice cheese that they put in ties the whole sandwich together (also brings back memories from primary school). Also, the bread, OHH the bread. It really took the sandwich to a whole new level. They also have a fresh fruit juice, albeit a little pricey, which is a huge plus. Steak sandwich with fresh OJ? So I tried this place for the first time today. After craving a good sandwich and looking here on yelp. I found out about this place that's like three blocks from me! Lol. I called ahead and order a cubano, and a steak sandwich. According to my fellow yelpers on here, these are the best options here. I also wanted the yuca with garlic sauce , but they didn't have any... wahhh. Guess I'll get that next time! Anyway... Back to the sandwiches. My favorite out of the two, hands down would have to be the steak sandwich. It's so yummy and melty and meaty lol. The meat is very well seasoned and all the condiments just take it to another level. Definitely get it with everything on it. The cubano was eh. I've had better to be honest. My biggest and only critic would be that 1: it wasn't fully melted. I love my sandwiches to have that melty factor to it. Specially if you love cheese. 2: the meat wasn't my favorite , it was a bit on the bland side and it was too thick for my liking. I personally made cubano sandwiches before and prefer the shredded pork on my cubano rather than the two thick slab of pork on it (that's just MY preference) everyone is different. I have been a loyal customer of this place and try to come as much as I can since I live out of the town. Today was when I stopped by and placed an order on the phone the woman that picked up the phone was rude on taking my order and just hung up the phone without asking me my name or anything . I arrived and asked her for my order and she was and she didn't know so I told her what I ordered then she came with the bag threw it on the tray along with the soda so rudely that I don't think I am coming back. This is heartbreaking . I've grown up with Omar's ever since I was a little kid . The staff and quality isn't as good as it used to be, the sandwiches before were crunchy , delicious , intact, and with flavor . Nowadays , the cook doesn't even get the sandwich in TACT together to when you go eat it , it's all over place in the wrapper. It's not crunchy, too much fucking salt, and the bread is stale and not toasted like IT SHOULD BE. These workers looks like they half ass their job and don't respect it like the other crew . Omar's Cafe has been a staple in that community for 20+ years. I finally went back a couple of weeks ago. Things have changed since now its not the best kept secret in town. I waited about 30 minutes for a cuban sandwhich and a spanish coffee. THe counter style ordering was a bit confusing since there is no way of making sure you are serving in order as people of in. Overall the coffee was delicious and the over stuffed cuban sandwhich was ok. There is no need to over stuff a cuban sandwhich==the thinner the tastier it is. I will go back and hopefully it will be less confusing. read more

If you are looking for good customer service this is NOT the place. We decided to stop here for breakfast. I asked for a bacon, egg and cheese. The place was pretty empty. It took about 20+min and me asking for our stuff to get the food. My sandwich didn't have any cheese. I brought it to the counter and the girl puts ketchup on it. This is not what I asked for. The owner without speaking to me starts to mouth off. At this point there is still no cheese and lots of ketchup. I will not pay or eat for something I didn't ask for. They remade my sandwich. There was something else who was upset because he didn't get what he asked for and waited 40 min. The owner instead of apologizing for the crappy service again mouths off.
