Stopped by on a Saturday to pick up some food for a late lunch after seeing the Cherry Blossoms over at Branch Brook. Hubby ran down and grabbed a Cuban Sammie, and a pastrami Sammie. The Cuban was surpringly good! Sometimes, the pork tends to be try but that wasn't the case here. The pastrami was something you could make yourself at home with some supermarket deli cold cuts. They also put yellow mustard on there, which I didn't care for. The sandwiches are very big and each is probably enough to share amongst two people (we didn't know this before ordering). We don't live in the area so I doubt we'd come all the way back just for the Cuban, but if you're in the area, it's a good option. read more

Very disappointing experience. I had seen Boricua Bakery featured by several influencers on Instagram, so I planned a day out with my kids and made the trip since we don't live close by. Unfortunately, the experience was nothing like what I saw online. When I walked in, I let the woman behind the counter know it was my first time there. I expected a warm, welcoming experience, especially as a fellow Puerto Rican, but I didn't feel welcomed at all. My kids were excited for empanadas, but I was told they didn't have any. I also asked for the coquito latte I had seen online and was told they didn't have that either. We stayed to eat, but the service felt very cold and unwelcoming. At one point, I even noticed a full pot of coffee sitting at the station, which made me question why certain items weren't available. What really bothered me was the difference between the experience I saw influencers receiving online and the experience I had as a regular paying customer. It honestly felt like influencers get the red-carpet treatment while everyday customers don't receive the same level of service. As a mom who planned this outing in advance, I left feeling disappointed and wishing we had gone somewhere else. Unfortunately, I won't be returning. read more

Local Puerto Rican bakery. Everything is fresh from the bake goods to the hot bread they serve. Their pan sobao is my favorite serve hot with butter. They make small portions of their dessert which is great to try a little of everything. The staff is always friendly and love to share their favorite picks with you. read more

Being a healthy sized Cuban I know my Latin desserts. Borinquén Bakery hits a home run with pasteles de guayaba. Bread is also perfect combination of crispy crust and soft inside. I picked up a loaf to make homemade Cuban sandwiches. The bread flattened/toasted perfectly in panini press. Parking could be rough, but it's worth stopping by if you are in the area. read more

It comes frozen and you have to cook it at home. It is so good. My mother loves the Rice pudding they make for Christmas and the Budín. Such a delicious treat! Great for breakfast (or any time) options. My husband introduced me to this gem and I love coming by for some pan sobao and pastelitos de guayaba. Their breakfast sandwiches are huge! Unless I'm really STARVING, I never finish my bacon (or Taylor ham) egg, and cheese in one sitting. Coffee is so strong and fresh. I also always get some flan to go (flan de coco, queso, or vanilla are popular choices). Due to Covid, only 2 people are allowed inside at a time. There are social distancing stickers on the floor and plexiglass to protect the employees (and yourself). You can pay cash or card and masks are enforced. No outdoor dining right now, but indoor dining is opening up soon. Can't wait to come back for more goodies! read more

Found this little gem in Newark on our way to the airport. It's a little slice of Puerto Rico nestled among mechanic shops on a little street. The decorations are so cute and just like if you were on the island. But besides that, every thing is DELICIOUS! They have all the typical Puerto Rican pastries from pastelillos de guayaba, quesitos, flan, tembleque, sorrullos, and even morcilla! They also have fresh baked bread. The coffee is just like your Abuelita made it! LIQUID GOLD! The sandwiches look great and the place was super busy with lots of locals picking up sandwiches for lunch. Service was very prompt and friendly. And besides that the bathroom was spotless! This is for sure a spot to visit when you are in the Newark area. We'll be back! read more

First of all, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES. Second of all, definitely support minority owned businesses. I recently learned about the Tripleta sandwich on YouTube. It's a sandwich for after a night out. A grease soaker upper. It's three meats of your choice with lettuce and tomato and mayo. My first impression is that, yes, I can see begging for one of these at 2am with a stomach full of booze. But at the moment , I am sober and this sandwich is great still. The staff is lovely and friendly. Definitely stop in if you are in the area. read more

Finally!! A puertorican bakery that makes Pan Sobao (soft, sweet bread) which is a traditional bread made in the island. As soon as I discovered this place on the Internet, I drove over there. The place is small but, it has small tables to sit. I tried some of their pastries (quesitos, pastelillos de guayaba, vanilla cake) but, they didn't get the best of me. They have to work on their pastries. But, their Pan Sobao is good. At my third visit on a Saturday morning, I noticed a lot customers just getting Pan Sobao. I don't think the pastries have a big "Fan Club". The customer service is good. The place is very clean. And, avoid using a debit card cause they will charge you a fee (I think $1.00). read more

It's super hard to find this quality of bread and pastries outside of Puerto Rico but the borinquen bakery absolutely nailed it! We drive over 30 minutes just to come here for their goodies and bread and let me tell you, it's worth the trip. read more

I am extremely disappointed with this place. I ordered 50 guava pastries for an event. I was told it came in a plastic serving tray. The day of the event I get a call inquiring if I'd like them in boxes or tray. I was like a tray of course. When I get there mind you the Oder was paid and the person that called never mention I had a balance. I was told I had a balance I replied no my order is paid in full. They replied no you owe me 4.00 for a tray. Now I am pissed not only for the lack of consideration but I was pressed for time n traveled a long way to pick this up. I told the girl just put them in a box I'm wasn't paying for something that was supposedly was included in the order by whom ever took my order. She even showed us the tray the day of the order. She took another 10-15 minutes before I got the boxes. These girls don't know what the hell they are doing. Why would they charge 4.00 for a tray I'll tell you why greed!
