Such a delicious treat! Great for breakfast (or any time) options. My husband introduced me to this gem and I love coming by for some pan sobao and pastelitos de guayaba. Their breakfast sandwiches are huge! Unless I'm really STARVING, I never finish my bacon (or Taylor ham) egg, and cheese in one sitting. Coffee is so strong and fresh. I also always get some flan to go (flan de coco, queso, or vanilla are popular choices). Due to Covid, only 2 people are allowed inside at a time. There are social distancing stickers on the floor and plexiglass to protect the employees (and yourself). You can pay cash or card and masks are enforced. No outdoor dining right now, but indoor dining is opening up soon. Can't wait to come back for more goodies!

Puerto Rican bread is the best bread ever!!!!!!!!!! Hands down!

Found this little gem in Newark on our way to the airport. It's a little slice of Puerto Rico nestled among mechanic shops on a little street. The decorations are so cute and just like if you were on the island. But besides that, every thing is DELICIOUS! They have all the typical Puerto Rican pastries from pastelillos de guayaba, quesitos, flan, tembleque, sorrullos, and even morcilla! They also have fresh baked bread. The coffee is just like your Abuelita made it! LIQUID GOLD! The sandwiches look great and the place was super busy with lots of locals picking up sandwiches for lunch. Service was very prompt and friendly. And besides that the bathroom was spotless! This is for sure a spot to visit when you are in the Newark area. We'll be back!

First of all, SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES. Second of all, definitely support minority owned businesses. I recently learned about the Tripleta sandwich on YouTube. It's a sandwich for after a night out. A grease soaker upper. It's three meats of your choice with lettuce and tomato and mayo. My first impression is that, yes, I can see begging for one of these at 2am with a stomach full of booze. But at the moment , I am sober and this sandwich is great still. The staff is lovely and friendly. Definitely stop in if you are in the area.

This awesome, woman-owned small…read morebusiness came highly recommended by a good friend, who has gotten her daughters' birthday cakes from Sweetcheeks, so I had experience with the beauty and the yummy taste. When I needed to plan for my daughter's birthday, it was a no-brainer. Kaylyn was super communicative and helpful; I sent photos of my daughter's party invitation and she did the rest in terms of design. It was simply spectacular! Gorgeous beyond what I could even imagine. She was also helpful in discussing amounts (size of cake, amount of cupcakes, servings and leftovers) to make sure we had plenty without overdoing it. She never tried to get me to order more or spend more, which I respected. The morning of pickup, Kaylyn sent me abundant photos and videos of the cake and cupcakes and I was blown away! She was flexible with pickup at her house, provided cake cutting instructions and storage tips, and made the whole process easy. We received a ton of compliments at the party on how gorgeous the cake and cupcakes were, and the flavors were a hit! As delicious to the tummy as they are to the eye! I will definitely be using Sweetcheeks for our family parties going forward!

Petcher's in Harrison. Mazur's in Lyndhurst…read more Brother's in Kearny. Vitello's in Nutley. Every (baking) empire eventually... crumbles. (Dad's gotta dan pun, we can't help ourselves.) With all the old guard now in the history books I began searching for a new reliable bakery. Very first visit here and... I was on the fence. Second visit... okay, I'm a fan. Subsequent visits... actually I'm a big fan. From red velvet cookies to Sfogliatella to carrot cake - they have more than enough treats to quell your sweet tooth. The breads (the reason I find myself here most times) - incredible. Rolls (of varying sizes) as well as a damn perfect bastone (crunchy and flaky, ready to be piled high for a sandwich) not to mention... the almighty Pizza Bread?! Oh, yeah. A bit more rare to find but the only proper 'pane' if/when you're going to make an Italian hot dog. They also have a side/section with a full deli if savory is more your speed. Cool staff. Good pricing. Metered street parking but be warned... this one specific street feels more like a strip mall - with probably a dozen businesses (liquor stores to salons to fitness centers to a few restaurants to...) - all vying for those spots. (And if you ever need an icebreaker at a social gathering... tell 'em "da Vinci" wasn't actually Leonardo's last name. You're sure to be a hit at the party!)

I've never eaten anything that I didn't like. My faves are: milhojas, breakfast croissant sandwich, and any and every cake with dulce de leche filling. I only tiny, minuscule complaint I have about this place is the lack of signage for the pastries and cakes. It would be nice to know what I'm looking at without having the ask. Absolutely zero gatekeeping here. Please everyone keep patronizing this establishment. I need this place to continue to exist in my hood.

So get anything fresh, like made to order cakes or things you see come out right when you're there. Otherwise you run the risk of getting old stuff, which sucks that they don't manage that at all. On a Sunday afternoon lines moved quickly and we were able to find seats. This is a cute cafe that offers plenty of savory items and lunches, plus drinks like matcha, cakes, pastries and cookies. There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
