hearty and satisfying breakfast
Kimberly T.

Came in on a thursday morning and got lucky with parking as well as being there at a non-peak time. Lots of seating and space inside but kinda cramped up together. There are also a lot of freshly baked goods and sweets to choose from. I love that they have a menu list for sandwiches and soups which made ordering easy. I had their ham and cheese panini and it was so delicious despite being so simple. Their soup of the day is not to be overlooked! During our visit they had chickpea and veggie which was so hearty and satisfying! Thats what fresh homemade food tastes like! Staff was very patient as well with my questions as i was not familiar with their items aside from the egg tarts. I really wish they put names up or descriptions on their items for sale though. Anyway, we also got their Galao (Portuguese coffee-espresso and milk) which was satisfying and loved their Molete aka Portuguese bread. I hope to be back soon to try other things and hopefully be more familiar with the rest of the baked goods!

Their pastel de natas & cappuccino were great! Parking was a little difficult since it's on a busy street & it's only street parking. They had so many baked goods to choose from! Service was friendly! The bakery was spacious and had an abundant amount of tables & chairs to sit at!

Just got off my plane and this was my first time in New Jersey, so I decided to try this bakery: The bacon egg and cheese ($5.99) was honestly really good. It came on a mollete roll that was crispy on the outside, and everything worked well together. Definitely my favorite thing I got. The pastel de nata was also solid -- nice light, crispy crust with a smooth, creamy filling. The Brazilian cheese bread (3 for $1) wasn't great though. It was chewy but it didn't taste fresh, so it wasn't crispy and ended up being kind of dense. Same with the beef empanada ($2.99) -- I'd probably skip it. The filling was dry, crumbly, and didn't have much flavor, just plain ground beef. Overall, I won't be back in New Jersey anytime soon, but coming from California it felt really cheap for a local spot. If I do come back, I'd probably try a different place.

This place is always busy. Look for the line at the front of the store. My go-to for pastel de nata. Perfect snack size with delicious filling and crispy crust! Parking is hard to find so have someone drive while the other runs in.

We were craving food that tasted homemade and we came across this place. It was Saturday morning and this place was poppin! We quickly secured a table and then got in line to order. The cashier was very friendly as she took my order. I ordered one pastel de nata, one empanada de pollo, and a cranberry juicy. My friends' orders consisted of another chicken empanada and a chicken soup. Everything I ordered was delicious! The pastel de nata was flakey and custardy - super yummy. My empanada was flavorful, crispy, and the chicken filling was seasoned well.. The inside was clean and there was a worker going around cleaning the tables as they opened up. Overall, it was a perfect meal before our 6 hour flight home.

This place is Portugal but in the USA. Amazing bakery with more delicious pastries than you could ever ask for and from what I saw some amazing food too. It was about 5:30 am and I wanted to go out and get some breakfast with my girlfriend and I happened to find this place on Yelp and I am glad I did too. It's a very nice bakery on the corner in a very busy area of Newark close to the airport. The place was packed at 6 am so that speaks volumes in regards to their products and service. The service was friendly and fast and everything we had was good. It was lively and well lite bakery. They have a multitude of products here too. Including cheeses and drinks in the cooler. I was super excited to try their fresh Neta Belem's since I'd never had one. Oh my were they good! We ordered: Nata Belem 10/10 Roscas Minhotas 7/10 Caramujos 7/10 Pao De Queijo Pequeno 9/10 Galao 10/10 I love this place and I'll definitely be back. I know this area has a high concentration of Portuguese immigrants and I am thankful for their baking and cooking skills. Enjoy :P

Cheese bread, egg custard tarts, empanada

Met friends here for a "light" bite. Grabbed some coffee and then an array of "light" bites including. Cheesey bread, egg custard tarts, and an empanada. I then got a flan & chicken folate cake dessert. Everything was great except tor the flan cake; I found it to be too large of a portion and dry (both flan and cake). Check out the breads, pass up on this cake.

Hard to beat this dessert collection and espresso!

My friend and I were in the area for an authentic Portuguese dinner and dessert. I found Teixeira's on Yelp and knew immediately where dessert would be. We walked in to the flagship Teixeira's of the few they have in the area. It's large, modern, and a nice place to sit and relax. The ladies working behind the counter were all friendly and patient with a couple of guys that didn't know what we wanted to add to the obvious pasteis de nata that we would be having. We got a pastel de nata each, split a slice of dulce de leche roll, and added a chocolate covered Napoleon looking dessert. A double shot of espresso each and we were in business. The chocolate Napoleon dessert was better than most Napoleon's I've had, texturally a bit easier to eat. Dulce de leche roll was also quite good, softer than expected it also had a bit of sponginess to it in a good way. The star of the show was the pastel de nata. Crisp and buttery on the outside and decadent egg custard on the inside. Kind of dessert that makes you fantasize about living in the neighborhood and being the kind of guy that rewards himself with a daily pastel de nata and espresso. Can't forget about that generous double shot of espresso! That espresso was strong but it was also delicious! Teixeira's is an absolute hit!

What a gem of a bakery! This Portuguese bakery serves all sorts of pastries, lunch item, coffee drinks, and fresh bread. Service is nice, but sometimes you will get services by employees who mainly speak Portuguese (but just point to the pastries you want and try pronouncing from the menu, so no problem). They have a nice dining area where we saw enough neighborhood people getting coffee and pastries in the morning. Aside from this, their prices are amazing wonderful! For a large loaf of multigrain bread it was $4; Portuguese egg tarts are about $1.75 each, but if you get 1/2 dozen it'll be $1.66 each. You can get steamed milk coffee for slightly over $2, and for a pork sandwich $6. Everything tasted wonderful! We will definitely be visiting this bakery every time we are passing by Newark!

I personally am not ... or should I say ... was not a big fan of Portuguese egg tarts. There is nothing special about them. Just soggy softy spongy egg too and regular crust ... Well, my whole definition of egg tarts was transformed after trying these Teixeira's bakery pastel de nata ... Portuguese egg tarts. The pie was ... the pour crust was sooooo good ... as if biting into multi-layered croissant. The texture was so pleasant that I couldn't stop at one tart. I haven't tried other pastries from Teixeiras, but the egg tarts is good enough for me to make the trip to Newark.

Pastelito de nata

I saw the great reviews on the pastelitos de nata and stopped by during my trip. Parking is difficult to find. I parked a few blocks away. The bakery is on a corner. It's big and has many different options for pastries and drinks. It smells like bread once you're inside. It was busy on the night that I went. They have a number system. You wait in line, order, pay, and then go sit down until they call your receipt number to pick up your order. The cashier recommended the cheese croissant and the pastelitos de nata. I ordered one of each. The wait was not bad. It took about 10 minutes to receive my order. The pastelito de nata was great. It was crispy and flaky. The cheese croissant was tasty as well. The cheese was nice and melted. I would stop by again once I'm back in the area. Definitely order a pastelito the nata if you stop by.

excellent all around. This is a local spot that cannot go wrong. The food and drinks are delicious and made in-house & affordable. I tried their chicken empanadas and fries. They're both really great ! If there was one comment - I would ask that they have more hot sauces to dip foods. I'm definitely coming back to try their bakery items.

Front of the house is more restaurant but in the back is a library/sitting area where you can read a book you brought or one that they have available (see pics). I had a cafe con leche and it was perfect as it came. Also I had the shashuka. I don't eat runny eggs but they kindly scrambled my eggs. The tomato sauce was delicious and it comes with bread. I also got a side of bacon. The staff is really nice and I was able to sit and read. If you are ever looking for a really accessible spot near the train station to eat definitely stop here.

My husband ordered a hot chocolate with oat milk, rich and comforting, and my mom had a chai with oat milk. She enjoyed the flavor overall. Food-wise, my husband ordered the chorizo omelette and was very happy with it--hearty, well-seasoned, and satisfying. I had the salmon salad, which was delicious. The dressing was balanced and flavorful, the greens fresh, and the salmon was cooked and seasoned really well. I will note that the salmon portion was a bit smaller than what I'd seen in some Yelp photos, but the quality absolutely made up for it. My mom had the club sandwich, which was generously sized and filling. She also wasn't a fan of the soft-boiled egg that came with her dish, but that's more a personal preference--she's firmly in the "well-done only" camp. Our little one had eggs and fries and was clearly living her best life. A sweet highlight of the visit was when the owner kindly gave her a cookie on the house--such a small gesture, but it really made the experience feel warm and personal. The space itself feels like a true community gathering spot--comfortable, welcoming, and easy to settle into. It's a great place to work or linger, with free WiFi and a relaxed atmosphere that invites you to stay awhile. Overall, this spot feels cozy, thoughtfully run, and rooted in care. The food is well-prepared, the flavors are intentional, and the hospitality really stands out. We'd absolutely come back for brunch and a longer stay next time.

I immediately stopped on the Vietnamese restaurant with almost a perfect rating at 4.9 stars and 500+ reviews. I'm equally excited, and skeptical. NY/NJ residents aren't the easiest to win over. I walked maybe 6 min to the restaurant. It was a nice sized store front with a well lit dining room, and self and full service kiosk. I was immediately greeted by the staff, I chose to do self serve. Even with that, I still felt very welcomed and engaged once I placed my order. All the items were displayed, and looked fresh. The staff carefully put together a teriyaki salad bowl, and pho for me in about 10 minutes. Once I got the food to my hotel room, I was genuinely impressed. The Pho was so rich in flavor, without being too salty. The noodles were the perfect texture. 10/10. A few hours later after the gym I cracked open the salad bowl. This was referred to me by the staff vs the lemon grass chicken. I am glad I listened, the amount of tender juicy chicken is impressive. The crispy lettuce, and robust tomatoes were a great combination of healthy, and hearty. Bahn & Bo deserves the accolades it's earned, and the one I made up at the beginning. Pro tip: The prices are so good, and so are the portion sizes. If you are looking for fresher, lighter, healthier, skip the Chipotle and Qdobas around the corner, and come here.
