Lovely Brazilian restaurant in the heart of the Ironbound district in Newark. On Fridays, they bring DJs to play vinyl. I enjoyed the contemporary design of the restaurant and the food was amazing. I had a dish that I normally don't make and don't see it in restaurants across the US - beef parmigiana. The meat was very tender, and the tomato sauce was well balanced without a lot of acidity, which I liked. It's a good size and you will probably take some home. Luis, the owner, is very proud of their vinyl equipment and says that the music selection of the DJs is very diverse and upbeat. I did not expect to enjoy this restaurant that much! It's unfortunate that it's located far into Newark, but I'm so happy I was able to try it. They had a wide variety of food, all ranging from beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and some vegetarian options. They had an extensive wine menu, and my boyfriend joyfully enjoyed a glass of wine. I got the brazilian fried chicken, which was extremely flavorful, and i was surprised there wasn't any breading on the chicken as typical fried chicken does. I much preferred the no-breading style, which I think is the Brazilian way. I would have preferred a boneless dish, as there were quite a few pieces with bones, and it was pretty oily at the bottom of the dish. It came with two very large sides, and totaled around $25. 100% would recommend this dish, but I do think at a lower price point, this could make do with just one side, instead of two, as the main dish was quite large enough to fill me up. My favorite part of this meal was the garlic butter bread that they provide for free. It comes out extremely fresh with lots of chopped up garlic, which is my favorite part of garlic bread. It was a great way to start the dinner off. The service was great and the waiters were extremely attentive. They regularly checked up on how we felt about the food and filled up our drinks. Took my in-laws here to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary, and we all loved it! Food was delicious, and our server Carolina went above and beyond. She showed such patience for my elderly in-laws and handled everything with grace. I wish I took more photos, but we were having such a good time that I forgot. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. I had the chance to try one of the most popular spots a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I will say that the interior design of the main dining is quite beautiful, with an exposed brick wall, large windows, and some elegant hanging lights. The bar area was also quite attractive. Sadly, the service did not match the decor. With an early dinner reservation, we were one of only two tables inside the restaurant. We did not order any appetizers, just two entrees. Somehow, we wait a full hour for our food to be served. In between, our waitress only came by once to say it's coming after 30 minutes of waiting. The next 30 minutes felt like an eternity, yet no apologies or any complimentary snacks while we sat there for an hour. When the food did arrive, I was surprised that the Skirt Steak was so small for the price. It also was lacking some nice grilled flavor that I'm accustomed to, though it was medium rare like we ordered. The second dish we got was the Codfish, which was overall pretty tasty but somewhat dry. As for the sides, the sautéed mushrooms and breaded bananas were okay. What a cute spot in the heart of the Portuguese section of Newark. The waitress was super friendly and helped us with the menu. The food was great , we started with garlic shrimp and pork sausage with yucca. I could bathe in the garlic sauce, I dunked bread in it all night. The pork sausage was perfectly cooked, little crispy nuggets with that little char for extra flavor. Yucca was crispy and I loved that it was also served in bite sized nuggets, I am used to it served like thick fries. For the main I had to get traditional whole codfish. Such a hidden gem in Newark. Only a quick 15 min drive from Branch Brook, this restaurant was exactly what my friend and I needed after visiting the park. We were able to reserve a table for 2 via Yelp, and the restaurant called us to make sure we were on our way and even accommodated for our lateness (thank you!) This is my first time in Newark, and I was walking around and stumbled upon Sabor Unido. This is a Brazilian and Portuguese Kitchen and so I stopped to grab a bite. I am so excited that I did. For dinner I ordered the Grilled Codfish, which came with two sides--I chose white rice and a garden salad. My choice was delicious. The codfish came with grilled red peppers and onions and it was beautiful. The onions and peppers were fully cooked but still had a bit of crispness when you bite into them. The codfish was seasoned well, and from the first to the last bite was amazing. The slight.crust on the top was crispy yet thiwhite fish inside was tender and moist. The garden salad was a mix of veggies and I believe it had diced mango as well. For dessert I decided to treat myself and has the mixed berry mousse and it was heaven. It was a good thing I was dining alone because this is a dessert I would never have shared! The mousse was flavorful and firm, cold, and the fruit on top was perfect. The staff tonight were extremely friendly and made me feel welcome. Even though I am from out of state I felt like a valued local customer. Best Brazilian food hands down ever at a restaurant! They don't have rodizio, but all the other dishes are authentic and absolutely delicious. This is the only restaurant I can say tastes just like homemade Brazilian food. I've been here multiple times and have yet to be disappointed. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Shrimp in Garlic sauce, fried yucca and pork sausage, and my personal favorite: frango passarinho. For entrees, the liver steak with onions (a classic Brazilian dish that most restaurants won't serve in the US) is my go to. It's so good that it beats my mother's dish (she confirmed it herself). Once in a while I will change it up a bit and order the picanha (top sirloin steak), Brazilian pork chop with tutu mineira, or the Feijoada (only served on Saturdays in true Brazilian tradition). They also have specialty dishes on different days. My go to sides are the spinach, collard greens and plantains. Save room for dessert! We have been to many restaurants in The Ironbound over the years, and last night we had the best we've ever tasted, by far! Sabor Unido really surprised us. Everything was so very fresh, and whoever the chef is should take a bow! Such a light delicate touch, food just melted in our mouths. When the dessert arrived, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! My curiosity led me to Sabor Unido in the Ferry Street area after reading all the rave reviews. Wanting to see if it lived up to the hype, I convinced my brothers and their families to join me for a dinner outing. I started with the Grilled Octopus, and it was fantastic! The Calamari appetizer was delicious as well. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak - a nice change of pace for this Rib Eye enthusiast - and it was incredibly flavorful and tender. My side of sweet plantains and fried Yucca was a delightful surprise. We skipped dessert since my brother brought a cake for the celebration, so I can't speak to those.
