I did not expect to enjoy this restaurant that much! It's unfortunate that it's located far into Newark, but I'm so happy I was able to try it. They had a wide variety of food, all ranging from beef, pork, chicken, seafood, and some vegetarian options. They had an extensive wine menu, and my boyfriend joyfully enjoyed a glass of wine. I got the brazilian fried chicken, which was extremely flavorful, and i was surprised there wasn't any breading on the chicken as typical fried chicken does. I much preferred the no-breading style, which I think is the Brazilian way. I would have preferred a boneless dish, as there were quite a few pieces with bones, and it was pretty oily at the bottom of the dish. It came with two very large sides, and totaled around $25. 100% would recommend this dish, but I do think at a lower price point, this could make do with just one side, instead of two, as the main dish was quite large enough to fill me up. My favorite part of this meal was the garlic butter bread that they provide for free. It comes out extremely fresh with lots of chopped up garlic, which is my favorite part of garlic bread. It was a great way to start the dinner off. The service was great and the waiters were extremely attentive. They regularly checked up on how we felt about the food and filled up our drinks. Took my in-laws here to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary, and we all loved it! Food was delicious, and our server Carolina went above and beyond. She showed such patience for my elderly in-laws and handled everything with grace. I wish I took more photos, but we were having such a good time that I forgot. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. I will say that the interior design of the main dining is quite beautiful, with an exposed brick wall, large windows, and some elegant hanging lights. The bar area was also quite attractive. Sadly, the service did not match the decor. With an early dinner reservation, we were one of only two tables inside the restaurant. We did not order any appetizers, just two entrees. Somehow, we wait a full hour for our food to be served. In between, our waitress only came by once to say it's coming after 30 minutes of waiting. The next 30 minutes felt like an eternity, yet no apologies or any complimentary snacks while we sat there for an hour. When the food did arrive, I was surprised that the Skirt Steak was so small for the price. It also was lacking some nice grilled flavor that I'm accustomed to, though it was medium rare like we ordered. The second dish we got was the Codfish, which was overall pretty tasty but somewhat dry. As for the sides, the sautéed mushrooms and breaded bananas were okay. After cleaning everything up, I tasted the food and was not impressed -- flavors were not bad, but certainly did not stand out. I think the abundance of grease made the meal less palatable. The food, ambience, and service created a complete and memorable dining experience. We opted for family-style dining and ordered three starters: grilled calamari, shrimp, and octopus. The standout was the grilled shrimp with garlic sauce, especially when paired with the bread provided. We all eagerly soaked up the garlic sauce and wished there was more on the plate. What a cute spot in the heart of the Portuguese section of Newark. The waitress was super friendly and helped us with the menu. The food was great , we started with garlic shrimp and pork sausage with yucca. I could bathe in the garlic sauce, I dunked bread in it all night. The pork sausage was perfectly cooked, little crispy nuggets with that little char for extra flavor. Yucca was crispy and I loved that it was also served in bite sized nuggets, I am used to it served like thick fries. For the main I had to get traditional whole codfish. This is my first time in Newark, and I was walking around and stumbled upon Sabor Unido. This is a Brazilian and Portuguese Kitchen and so I stopped to grab a bite. I am so excited that I did. For dinner I ordered the Grilled Codfish, which came with two sides--I chose white rice and a garden salad. My choice was delicious. The codfish came with grilled red peppers and onions and it was beautiful. The onions and peppers were fully cooked but still had a bit of crispness when you bite into them. The codfish was seasoned well, and from the first to the last bite was amazing. The slight.crust on the top was crispy yet thiwhite fish inside was tender and moist. The garden salad was a mix of veggies and I believe it had diced mango as well. For dessert I decided to treat myself and has the mixed berry mousse and it was heaven. It was a good thing I was dining alone because this is a dessert I would never have shared! The mousse was flavorful and firm, cold, and the fruit on top was perfect. The staff tonight were extremely friendly and made me feel welcome. Even though I am from out of state I felt like a valued local customer. Such a hidden gem in Newark. Only a quick 15 min drive from Branch Brook, this restaurant was exactly what my friend and I needed after visiting the park. We were able to reserve a table for 2 via Yelp, and the restaurant called us to make sure we were on our way and even accommodated for our lateness (thank you!) Street parking is a little bit difficult in the city, but well worth the hassle. Inside, the restaurant is small and intimate with fun Brazilian music playing in the background. Servers were friendly and helpful. It was my first time at a Brazilian restaurant (not including Fogo de Chao) and she recommended some fan favorites. - Tutu a Mineira: 4/5, pork chop was a bit dry, but the greens were well seasoned and the beans and sausages paired nicely with the dish - Liver steak: 4/5, my first time having liver steak. If you don't like gamey meat you may not like this. Paired well with the sautéed onions and crispy yucca fries. The fried plantains were my favorite side. Recommend to eat quickly or else the liver steak gets too tough to chew Huge portions, great service and warm setting. A bit on the pricier side, so would recommend coming here for special occasions. Came here with friends for hangout and dinner. We were seated outside and the weather then was awesome for the setup. As soon as I checked in with the app it offered free espresso. The espresso was amazing, and tasty. It lifted my spirits! We ordered Octopus as appetizer and they were freshly made and super tasty when eaten with combination of the sauce. Delicious! Garlic breads were amazing. They were free appetizers. They were crispy, fresh, and the garlic sauce imbued into the bread were flavorful and perfectly done. We have been to many restaurants in The Ironbound over the years, and last night we had the best we've ever tasted, by far! Sabor Unido really surprised us. Everything was so very fresh, and whoever the chef is should take a bow! Such a light delicate touch, food just melted in our mouths. When the dessert arrived, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! Was looking for a spot to eat before a show at NJPAC a few weeks ago for a decently large party (8 people) ranging from 18-77 years old. We've frequented some restaurants in the area, namely Portuguese, but I personally was looking for something different -- cue in Brazilian cuisine. Experience was excellent. We felt taken care of right away upon entering the establishment and food and drinks were excellent all around. Notable mentions for Caiparinha, Shrimp / Camarao a Guilho, Chicken Brazilian Style / Frango Passarinho, Steak with Onions / Bife Acebolado, Brazilian Porkchop / Tutu a Mineira. Note the "Seabass / Robalo - Broiled head to tail seabass, grilled onions" was not head to tail any longer; head was taken off in case that was a reason you wanted to order it! Wanting to see if it lived up to the hype, I convinced my brothers and their families to join me for a dinner outing. I started with the Grilled Octopus, and it was fantastic! The Calamari appetizer was delicious as well. My wife and I both ordered the Hanger Steak - a nice change of pace for this Rib Eye enthusiast - and it was incredibly flavorful and tender. My side of sweet plantains and fried Yucca was a delightful surprise. We skipped dessert since my brother brought a cake for the celebration, so I can't speak to those. The food was good, but the service was by far the worst I've experienced in the area. Other nearby spots offer much better service for the same or even lower prices. There was no one to greet us upon arrival, and they had no record of the updated reservation I made myself. Our first server was rude and unprofessional, and the one who followed was slow. Steaks were served without steak knives, the wrong dishes were brought to our table, and we had to wait a long time for both the dessert menu and to pay. To top it all off, the tip was automatically included at the highest percentage, not giving the customer the chance to choose based on the quality of the service. So happy we tried this place - the reviews were right about how good the food is and how friendly the people are. The place is small so def make a reservation. We started with coconut lemonade. Omg. Delish. And dessert like - tangy. We shared apps - shrimp and calamari. Both were yummy! For dinner our group had a range of dinners: chicken parm and pasta (wow looked so good!), cod specials, lamb.... All terrific We had dessert - def save room for dessert.
