I'm so glad we finally made it to The Greeks! Parking: Street parking (some with meters and others without) Payment: Cash only. They didn't give us an itemized receipt when we went up to pay but it seemed to just about add up. Vibe: Warm and inviting. Service: So friendly! We were immediately greeted and seated. I love to see a family-owned business and they couldn't have been more inviting. Food and drinks: We were especially drawn to come dine here since they have Freddo Cappuccino on the menu (we fell in love with it in Greece and can't find it anywhere here). Their version definitely took us back so definitely recommend it! I got the Golden pancakes which were fluffy and tasted very good (even with them being plain I was impressed). My husband got the Greek omelette which came with toast and home fries. He said it was good but noted the tomatoes made it a little more watery than he would've hoped and the char on the outside almost tasted like pancake. Overall he still was very happy with his choice. read more

I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now and finally did for Mother's Day I definitely wanted their Taylor ham breakfast sandwich and pancakes. The Tiramisu latte was calling my name too. My son got the chocolate Freddo with coconut whip on top - both drinks were delicious The Taylor ham was packed with Taylor ham! Salty and savory which is what I wanted. Then a bite of the lava pancakes - the sweetness with the savory yummy. The pancakes tbh were okay. The pistachio sauce had a bit of after taste and the pancakes were off like they were crumbly and not soft and buttery fluffy taste. I'll definitely be back to try a different caffeinated drink and maybe come for lunch! read more

Awesome family owned restaurant. Its small so there could be a wait especially during the weekend. We got the chocolate iced coffee and the Tiramisu iced coffee. The tiramisu coffee had a cold foam on top with expected cocoa powder. It was not too sweet and the needed kick to wake you up. They have kids juices but no dedicated kids menu. One kid got the waffle. It was large but pretty straight forward. Another got the 2 eggs and toast. She loved the runny eggs. We also got the crossaint sandwich. It has fresh avacodo, fluffy eggs, cheddar cheese and a generous piece of turkey. It was pretty good and served with a large portion of home fries. The potatoes were pretty good with a decent crunch. We also indulged and got the dubai French toast. It is good but super sweet. Make sure you are prepared for a Nutella and sweetness overload. They got the food out quick so the kids didnt need to be entertained too long. Although known for their Taylor egg and ham sandwich, there are lots of decent other items to choose from. read more

Heard that new owners had taken over so we finally tried them out Went during the July 4th weekend so it was quiet and we snagged a table and parking right away. Food came out quick and hot. 4 & 1/2...Taylor Ham (or Pork Roll depending on which part of the Garden State a person hails from) must be an acquired taste. While I initially was repelled, I have subsequently converted to a full fledged fan over the course of the past few years of working quite a bit in NJ, and this wonderful establishment in the great urban town of Kearny has earned the crown for the best I've ever had of it. The gloriously gluttonous gut-busting "Johnny's Hangover Special" also qualifies for a spot high on my list of all time best breakfast sandwiches of any type, well worth a trip across the State line. The fat stack sandwich features relatively thick slices of the salty pork product layered between a fusion of delectable chunk of crispy savory fried potatoes melded with soft scrambled eggs and cheese, all seasoned and griddled to perfection stuffed inside a heavenly squishy and delicious Portuguese style roll. True to the name it would surely provide the salve you need to help you recover from the wildest of nights, as well as leave you thoroughly stuffed for most if not the rest of the day. Pro tip; accompany the life-changing sandwich with one of the wonderful, unique and delicious specialty coffee drinks that will delight your social media feeds followers as much as your tastebuds with their eye popping presentations. Decor and atmosphere are like a set designers dream of a classic NJ diner, and pretty much guaranteed to be packed especially on a weekend. Parking in Kearny is as challenging as literally anywhere within the five boroughs so be prepared to hunt down a spot, but trust me that it's worth the effort. I know a new, social media skilled family took the reigns of this spot a year ago from the longtime previous owners and while I can't compare the two I can definitively say that the new owners are at the very least honoring he legacy in best possible way imaginable if not improving on it. Long live the Greeks! read more

***CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT*** ATM on site. TLDR: HIGHLY RECOMMEND. If you enjoy breakfast sandwiches, the Taylor Ham, egg and cheese is a MUST. The Greeks is a staple of Kearny and a contender,if not already, for the best Taylor Ham, Egg and Cheese in NJ. With that being said, I had to stop by and try it out after the Grand re-opening on 11/25/24. There was plenty of street parking (not always the case) so it was a quick trip. This is a no frills, hole in the wall, family owned establishment. It is very small and usually crowded with locals. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted and provided with a menu. I order the THEC to go and let's just say it did not disappoint. The sandwich was very generously put together, eggs was perfectly cooked, Taylor ham wasn't too salty, cheese was perfectly melted and the bread was fluffy. Their menu is simple but just reading it shows that they have a lot of fundamental diner items. They also have specials every day which are not on the menu and I will definitely be back to try more items. read more

Finally had the chance to stumble on in to The Greeks in Kearny, NJ today for what some people consider the best Jersey Meat/Egg/Cheese in the state!! I don't care to argue over the name of it. Call it pork roll, call it Taylor ham, call it your aunt sally...I say Jersey Meat to avoid the argument. This may or may not be the best one I've had, but it's absolutely in the conversation. 7 slices of controversy with two eggs and plenty of cheese on a delicious NJ fresh Kaiser roll. This sandwich is exactly $10 and this establishment is cash only. I am perfectly okay paying $10 for this with that much protein going on. The Greeks - Didn't Suck! read more

Stopped in to grab a THEC after seeing it featured on Instagram. I never knew this place existed. WOW!! is all I can say. The THEC was EXACTLY what was touted. It was FANTASTIC. If you love a loaded sandwich and you love THEC then stop here and grab yourself one. Best $10 I ever spent! read more

Being a transplanted Northerner I don't often get a chance to try local NJ legends, but on this Xmas trip to NY/NJ I finally got to the Greeks, and boy I am glad I did.On the way up I stopped in and had the NJ special, taylor ham, egg and cheese between 2 pieces of french toast, one word to describe it : awesome !!!! One week later on the way home I stopped again and this time I settled ‍for the basic taylor ham , egg and cheese on a roll, once again: awesome. If you are a local you don't need my opinion to try this place, but if you are a foodie and looking for a piece of real small town America, take The NJ turnpike to exit 15W and treat yourself !!!!! read more

In the words of my boyfriend... "the best Taylor ham egg and cheese ever". Since I'm not a fan of Taylor ham, I know I know, I leave the reviewing to my boyfriend on that one. Trust me, he's a Taylor ham fan. He really said it was perfect, just the right ratio of ingredients and greasy Jersey meat to make a breakfast sandwich perfect. I went with the western omelette and it was truly enough for 4 meals. So much food. The home fries were great, overcooked but in the best way possible. Delicious eggs, loaded with toppings. We also got a side of elm street fries, again enough for 4 people. Tasty seasoned fries, chili, a ton of cheese, all topped with raw onion. They give you the option of cooked onion as well, I think both would work to be honest. Be aware, this place gets crazy busy. I called on a Saturday morning for pickup and the wait was an hour. It's worth it, just be prepared. Staff is hard working and friendly. read more

Love this place! The food is delicious and the portions are generous. If you don't see something on the menu that you want, they will figure out a way to make what you want. Above all else, the service is amazing. The owner is such a friendly, personable, young man. He is so down to earth. It almost feels like he is inviting you into his home to dine with his family. Love that guy! They really go above and beyond what any other restaurant would offer to make sure you are full and satisfied when you leave. Not to mention the waitress has to be the prettiest young lady in the town (had to throw that in). So far, this has been my favorite restaurant during my visit to New Jersey. If you live here and haven't been here, what are you waiting for? I would give it 10 stars if I could. read more

This is my second time here and it just baffles me how these guys are the only ones that can get this down to a perfect science. Everyone else just puts a heap of Taylor ham one the top and that's that. Not these guys. They layer it perfectly. That's the way to do it!!! It's beautiful. It's taste perfection. It's pride in making each sandwich. First time I went, I got the Taylor ham, egg, cheese on French toast and it was the best thing I ever had. This time I went with the Hangover, which was Taylor ham, egg, cheese and their famous potatoes. This is not for the faint of heart. Weighed about as much as my car's spare tire and had the flavor to back it up. My wife went with the normal Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a hard roll. Best TEC this side of the Mason Dixon Line. I dare you. I challenge you to find a better Taylor ham, egg and cheese. Can't be done. Just remember that it's cash only, so hit the ATM before going. read more

After a decade it's time to freshen up my original review. Having grown up in Kearny I've been coming here forever. John (owner) is one of the coolest and most genuine people you'll ever meet and if he ever decided to give up manning the flat top grill to go into politics he could be the mayor of any of the local towns in a landslide election (and that's no hyperbole). The Greeks is a small joint, hidden away on a side street in Kearny (although it's always packed) so it took some time for the rest of the state to catch up and the last few years you'd see The Greeks make various 'Best Of' lists - which they definitely earned and deserved. Their Taylor hand sandwich? Dynamite. Give it to me plain, on a roll. (The rest of you can get fussy with eggs and cheese and extra salt and pepper and ketchup and all that nonsense.) The home fries? Best in the state. (The Mad Batter all the way down at Exit 0 could give them a run for their money though.) The Mrs. is cuckoo for omelets and specifically their Greek omelet is her absolute fave ever (and she's tried them all over, trust me). And my kids are big fans of their pancakes. Coffee - legit. Pricing - solid. Staff - always extremely cool. (And don't sleep on their lunch menu... lots of homemade soups and one of the best chicken gyros I've ever had - and I've had more than my fair share over the years.) They're closed Sundays (boo!) but them's the breaks. read more

This place is recently under new ownership and this family knows what they are doing! The home fries are the best I've had in a long time and they have some amazing menu choices! My son had the London broil and eggs special today and I had a breakfast sandwich. Both were delicious. The coffee is fresh and hot, the place is spotless and the staff (all family members) are super nice. You feel right at home when you're there. To finish off my lunch. I brought home the Dubai chocolate stuffed croissant. OMG it was HEAVENLY! This spot is a MUST. You will not be disappointed! read more

Ok new owner's still great the best breakfast sandwiches....one like mistake my wife likes her toast dry not slathered in butter, Her platter arrived all good toast slathered in butter advised waitress no problem owner behind the counter said who the hell doesn't like butter on their toast as he threw the bread in the trash.... My wife understood and needless to say if I go back to the Greeks it will be solo. Dude the customer is always right especially if you screwed up. read more

This place is your classic, hole in the wall, NJ diner with a family feel. The food is amazing, artery-clogging goodness. Home fries tips: get it crispy but not extra crispy, and "Greek style" with feta The French toast is amazing Pricing is more than fair for the portions. It's great how they know their regulars. Cash only. Another pro tip: you and your clothes will smell like the diner when you come here since the grill is right out in the open so wear clothes you don't care about when you come here. Full disclosure - each time my husband and I come here we are the only minorities and get stared at by the customers - but the owner and waitress don't treat us any differently. The political affiliation here is blatantly obvious but don't let that stop you from getting delicious food. Also be prepared to be entertained by the conversations overheard. read more

Great place, even better service, always consistent be warned the portions are NOT small. Soups are always great

Ok so I finally tried it and I gotta say this is The Best Taylor Ham Egg and Cheese in Jersey. Plenty of meat layered in the perfect manner. The home fries look burnt and terrible but actually aren't they have a good flavor. Still had to wait 35 minutes for it to be made (which isn't ideal for breakfast to go) but this time we called ahead so wait wasn't as bad. Also they Do Not wear masks. Not the cooks or the lady serving you at counter. That's the reason for not 5 stars. Oh and the owner is a very nice guy. read more

Was in NJ last month visiting as I grew up in Newark not far from where "The Greeks" have their location in Kearny. Reading a variety of publications and #2 Taylor Ham Egg & Cheese sandwich in the state was at "The Greeks" so off we went as #1 was closed on Monday's. Parking on the street (Metered) was easy to find as we head in to the his small NJ type diner with Social Distanced seating. Lucky to score a table in the back more on that later. Greeted by our server and John the owner is behind the counter making everything. Place is a throwback where everyone knows everyone god I miss that feel of home sometimes. From local 1st responders to local regulars than there are regulars who we conversed with who traveled 15 - 20 miles just to have breakfast as they grew up here and still come back. OK On to the food. I had the Taylor Ham egg cheese sandwich and there are THEC sandwiches and then there is Johns. WOW piled high with Taylor ham but layered properly with two eggs and a abundance of cheese. Roll was soft and fresh. We also had an order of hashbrowns / homefries that were delicious. I watched as everything from pancakes, French Toast, and lunch items like the burger that looked outrageous go by. John kept the banter up while diners came and went. Apparently we were sitting in a regulars table and the look was classic like WTF are you doing in my seat LOL. We are both vaccinated so we asked him to join us so he could be next to his friends and the smile was worth price of breakfast. Just a friendly no nonsense great place with superior food, old NJ Feel and comfort level amongst customers that you don't find anywhere. I'll be back! read more

I had such high expectations, and The Greeks didn't live up to them. My experience makes me wonder who is reviewing this place. The service was slow, and the food was underwhelming. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken. The chicken tasted exactly like that prepackaged chicken garbage. It had a bad taste and was bland. The dressing needed a lot more vinegar, lemon, or something else. It tasted as though there was just pretty much oil on the salad. There also wasn't enough feta cheese. My sister ordered traditional eggs, bacon, home fries, etc. She said her meal was fine...just fine. There was nothing special about it. Nothing was so awful that it deserves two stars. Although service was slow, it was still friendly. Although the food wasn't great, it wasn't so disgusting that I wanted to find a garbage can to spit it out. On a positive note, I thought their rolls of paper that patrons could write or draw on was a really nice touch. I'm glad I tried the place, though I won't be back. If you're in the area, I suggest hitting up Tops instead. read more

This family owned and operated small Greek diner has some of the best diner food I've had in New Jersey. The breakfasts and especially the home fries may be the best in NJ. The service is fast and personable. It's worth a long drive to experience the Greeks. As I edit this review of the Greeks As I eat the last bites of a masterful Western omelette, the owner and chef John just told me Princess Leia died, rest in peace sweet princess Carrie Fisher. If you're a fan of home cooked food, and feeling the love of a family run business, don't hesitate, stop your search, this is the Holy Grail of coffee, eggs, home fries, pancakes, and all grill fare. The soups are home made too. Taylor ham egg and cheese is the state sandwich of NJ, just ask X Ray Burns of WFMU and Weird N.J., whose body is probably 35% Taylor ham. And if you haven't had one, this is the place to get one, but it will ruin you for life; so you'd better just keep returning to the Greeks! read more
