    Meatballs parm

If you are looking for a cozy and affordable breakfast and lunch spot, you have found it. Clean and friendly, and food is on point. Highly recommended.

Chicken Cutlet salad, with fresh mozzarella and peppers... Yummy!!

Ok, so... Ever since working in the gorgeous cities of Newark and Elizabeth, I've been privy to some eateries that I would never have the opportunity to visit. Today, I was brought to Café Italia. Wow.. What a little gem! When you walk in, it looks run down. They don't have any new fangled menu boards, no bright lights, nothing fancy... Absolutely nothing new about this place. But what it does have is incredible food. All homemade and Gigantic portions!. All served by little old Italian ladies with love! If you want it, they can make it for you. I was recommended the Chicken Cutlet salad, which came with fresh Mozzarella, sweet and hot peppers, olives, tomatoes, lettuce, and onions - dabble some homemade Balsamic dressing on that bad boy and you have one incredible salad! My mouth is watering right now just typing this! I saw others tearing into chicken cutlet parm sammaches, sausage and peppers, penne w/ Vodka Sauce, Cheesesteaks, Veal, OMG, you name it, it's here.. hot and cold treats! We got there about 11:15 and it quickly filled up. They have about 10 or so tables inside. Hell, even Newark's finest stopped in for lunch, so if the Po-Po come here, it MUST be some good eats!!! So, why 5 stars? Well, places like this are slowly going away. Long gone are the days of the small restaurants like this - that you can get incredible homemade food as good as this place. Great prices, you feel at home here. I live in Pequannock, so I'll never just hop in my car and come here for lunch - it's just too far.. But rest assure, if there's a lunch run and this place is mentioned, I'll be first in line to go. I don't think the picture gave justice on just how big of a salad that was, but it was chock full of chicken and garden goodies... That and a bottle water, yea only $8.00 bucks. If you're ever in the area, and want some authentic Italian food, do yourself and your taste buds a favor, and stop in. **Cash Money Only Homey!" Highly Recommended!!!

Open during covid for takeout and limited outdoor seating. Same great homemade Italian food.

Came here for lunch and had the eggplant parm with spaghetti and it was delicious! This is an old school Italian hole in the wall with authentic Italian/American specialties! The 4 Nona's Cooking and preparing the food in the back made me think of my childhood! The meatballs are honestly as good as my mother-in-law's! Great place with great prices!!!

This is one of the last home cooking Italian lunch spots left in Newark. The food is incredible and not only does the food taste like mother's it is actually better. The eggplant parmigiana can't be matched even at 5 star restaurants. And you can watch mother cook up the meal too

    Penne Vodka sauce special. Excellent.

Perfectly cooked pasta. "Everything is homemade," Angelo explained later. Smart and fairly well-priced wine list. BARRIGUITA- plentiful serving for a tapa, we loved the potatoes it came with too CHICHARRON DE POLLO- flavorful chicken and easier to eat than you think TARTAR- delish but small Chipirones- sooo delicately breaded you can barely tell, was great COSTILLA A LA PLANCHA- plentiful for a tapa, we recommend cooking for longer since its traditionally a tough cut of beef SAUTED VEGETABLES- tastey and not mushy thankfully! MILLIONAIRE CAIPIRINHA for my drink. was soooo good, not too sweet and not quite as sour as a margarita, was perfect for me!

When I was there, they had a DJ playing, and it added energy without being too loud or overwhelming. The Service was very good, the waiter answered and helped with all our questions. The food was absolutely amazing really flavorful and well done. Just be a little prepared that most dishes come in smaller portions. But the quality definitely makes up for it. I ordered the paella, and it's easily enough for two or even three people and it was well worth it. Really delicious. The drinks were also definitely worth trying while you're there. The only thing I wasn't big on was the desserts they didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. But overall, great atmosphere, excellent food, and a fun experience. I'd definitely come back.

I didn't come with kids, but I saw a lot of families waiting. It was a kid friendly space. The inside was quite dim & it kept getting dimmer as the night progressed. The pictures show an individual pizza size, which we were told might not be big enough to share, but we made it work amongst 3 girls.
