It wasn't packed, so we had seating options and landed at a round table in the middle: elite positioning, honestly. Door and front windows on one side, bar view on the other. Prime people-watching real estate. Now let's discuss the important part: the food. We ordered strategically (read: everything we wanted). Lamb meatballs - 10/10. Holy crap. I don't know who is back there doing what, but please continue. Burrata pizza - absolutely delicious. Gone in record time. Gochu-Crispy-Chikin - no notes. Million Dollar Chicken - appropriately named. Fish 'N' Chips - zero complaints across the table. And that's the thing: not a single person in the group had an issue. No side-eye. No "it's good, but..." Just clean plates and happy energy. Now. Parking? Disrespectful. It's on a corner (love that), but finding parking took effort (do not love that). Would I let that stop me? Absolutely not. Parking be damned. I will circle. I will walk. I will manifest a spot. We were in Newark a late afternoon on a Sunday and looking for a burger. Went to another famous local place and it was closed so decided to try Burke's Tavern. The atmosphere and restaurant look great. It has a good vibe and the service was great. Let me tell you about the burger, not the best, they give you a slider size patty, overcooked and served on a bun that comes apart when you grab it. I'm not sure about the rest of the menu, but not a burger place. Now the chocolate cake with the raspberry ice cream--wow! This was the best part of the meal. I'm giving this place 4 stars even though I didn't like the burger because that's all I tried. I'll come back and revise this rating up/down if I come back and try other menu items. We were supposed to go to Forno's Spanish tavern which I absolutely love but they were mobbed for Mother's Day and ended up here. WHAT A NICE SURPRISE!! Kudos to my daughter who found this place. For starters we ordered - Bangkok Shrimp - Goat cheese and herb - meatballs - Grilled chicken wings All were excellent but the chicken wings were a bit small. For dinner: - Crispy chicken - Bronzini, - plain and eggplant pizza - Lamb burger. All of which were very good. From the great reviews, we decided to check this place out as a good midpoint for our friends from Bernardsville and us in Northern NJ. It is a cute place with a hometown "local bar" feel. The menu is limited and with the name "tavern" we were expecting tavern-type fare. One of us wanted a beef burger, however the only choice was a Lamb burger. The portions were small and not commensurate with the price. We ordered Chicken wings and got 5 wings, the beet salad was on only half the plate! The other half was a dressing design! I wanted the half roasted chicken and they said they didn't have it. I ordered a salad with a fried type chicken instead and it too was small and the chicken not tasty. Cocktails are also small. My Manhattan was small and in a small glass. I asked and was told it was a measured drink. My 2nd was better. This is hands down one of the best brunch spots I've been to in the area! Everything was absolutely delicious and very fresh. Bright, cute and warm interior and fantastic service. Be warned parking is tough and is all street parking (to be anticipated). They also don't have as many vegetarian options and they aren't able to make substitutes with a lot of dishes. It was mostly slaw and a few pickles. Maybe some avocado or something would add to it. The fries were pretty good. They had no honey mustard or bbq sauce -- at all. I found that to be strange. We felt very hip...probably didn't look hip, but definitely felt hip. The Moroccan Lamb Meatballs were so tender and flavorful that we briefly forgot we were in New Jersey. The fresh tomato, grilled flat bread and yogurt made it taste like a small vacation where nobody asks you to help move furniture. The Prosciutto and Arugula pizza was outstanding. Do yourself a favor and get the chili oil. It turns the pizza from a great dinner into a spiritual awakening. Seriously solid pizza. The Gochu Crispy Chikin sandwich was no joke. The chicken was super crunchy, the sauce was delicious and the coleslaw had the perfect amount of zing! We liked it so much it was gone before we could take the picture. I do not remember the name, but the donut-like balls were just ok. A little dry. Not bad, but not writing home to grandma either. The ice cream that came with them though was fantastic. Smooth, cold and exactly what I needed to make peace with the donut situation. Found this cute boutique in the heart of ironbound. What a lovely establishment.... Brazilian hipster vibes, very chic, intimate vibes. The staff were light, Friendly and informative!! They must've known me becuase they offered espresso margaritas (espresso martinis with tequila). Went to see a show at NJPAC and was in search for a nightcap- I came across Burke's Tavern which used to be one of my favorite hang out spots and well known hole in the wall- Hell's Kitchen. It's safe to say the place has changed drastically! Romantic ambience, lots of seating and pretty bar, this place is the perfect spot for a date night. Not to mention, the bathrooms have been completely redone, thank goodness LOL I called ahead to find out if the kitchen was still open and although it was not, the gentleman on the phone promised to allow a pizza order if I was there soon. I tried the plain margherita pie, which was fresh and tasty. Check out their chili oil, not too spicy and perfect for finishing off on the crust. Drinks! The drinks were bomb at this place. The bartender Diego definitely knows what he is doing.. I am a rum lover, and he whipped up the perfect daiquiri. We came here while I had a conference at the Prudential center Overall, the ambience was really cute . In a safe area this place is a little diamond in the rough! The food tasted really flavorful and delicious! But because many conference goers came at one time it took us over an hour for our food to arrive. I had the "golden Beet" salad to start and there weee 2 slivers of golden beets mixed in with red beet. So really not golden, just say beet salad. The arugula was borderline slimy and wilted. I also ordered the Million Dollar "Raw" chicken (the place is dark, make sure you check your food with your flashlight) when I cut into it, it was raw... great way to get sick.. . Service was blahhhh could not understand the bartender. When I asked for the check she got on the phone with her manager and came back with the check for the beef salad and a sparkling water for $28. I don't gripe, I ate the salad and drank the water, but she says I spoke to my manager and she said we couldn't do anything, sorry I'm not the manager. I never asked for anything, it would have been better to say nothing and drop the check! I am writing a review for this almost unbelievably dope place, because on a Thursday evening they were a bit empty and I would love to see them thrive. We sat at the bar and had a Jersey corn flatbread, a pizza and a "farmer's salad" that came with poached raisins (yay) and some crispy onions - perfectly dressed. The food was excellent. There is a cocktail list that has stone classics on it - a boulevardier, a Manhattan, two negronis, and, of all things, a Last Word - literally the last word in cocktails, and it was superbly made . I think this would be an excellent date night choice. Food -- my husband got the sliders and fries. He loved the sliders. The fries were a little blond/undercooked. I'm vegetarian and got the little gem salad and herbed goat cheese app. Loved the bread that came with it the goat cheese, and the olive oil and herbs were perfection. Both the salad and the app had shaved crispy garlic that was nicely done. I can't recommend the salad because the lettuce was obviously not fresh. Service was very friendly and attentive. My absolute favorite place to go to in Newark! The food is superb. The Burke's sliders are a must. Each bite is so juicy and so rich and the portion size is perfect for an appetizer for two. Pairs super well with their fries which is on the crispier side. I also highly recommend the cacio e pepe pasta. It's super fresh, simple, but so amazingly good. My boyfriend always gets the chicken gochujang sandwich. It's messy to eat but so worth it. It has a nice tangy taste to it. Drinks are fantastic here. The bartenders are knowledgeable and very skilled. They're all super friendly too and really gives his place a local friendly vibe. The cocktails are delicately made and has so many layers of taste. It's one of the best I've had recently. The ingredients were fresh and seasoned really well. Grilled buffalo wings- sooo delicious. Not too spicy for those with a tolerance. The sauce is garlicky. Came here on a whim as we are staying at the Home2Suites near the airport. It's been years since I've been to the ironbound section of Newark as I moved from this area 6 years ago. Wife came across this place on yelp and we looked and decided as a group of 4 to go. We are so happy that we did. The food was delicious, fresh tasting, prepped to perfection and our waitress was spot on with refills and coming every so often at the perfect time, every time. The place is quaint and they control the lighting for each section which is nice. When we got our menus the lights were made brighter and once we started getting into our food, they were dimmed. Father in law got the pepperoni pizza (5/5) as he was kind enough to share and was cooked to perfection and the parm cheese on it was not skimped on. I also had the Burke sliders which were cooked to medium well as requested (4/5) and the lamb meatballs were amazing (5/5) as my appetizer. My wife for her main course the crispy chicken sandwich which she devoured as did my mother in law. MIL doesn't typically finish her meals, but she sure did this time. read more
