Sat at the bar both times that went, very friendly bartenders that made great drinks! Loved the aesthetics and music playing, nice after work vibes. Appetizers are delicious!

Delicious food, cutest decor and such pleasant service. Had the Bangkok-Fry shrimp, lamb burger, sliders to name a few and everything was perfect.

From the great reviews, we decided to check this place out as a good midpoint for our friends from Bernardsville and us in Northern NJ. It is a cute place with a hometown "local bar" feel. The menu is limited and with the name "tavern" we were expecting tavern-type fare. One of us wanted a beef burger, however the only choice was a Lamb burger. The portions were small and not commensurate with the price. We ordered Chicken wings and got 5 wings, the beet salad was on only half the plate! The other half was a dressing design! I wanted the half roasted chicken and they said they didn't have it. I ordered a salad with a fried type chicken instead and it too was small and the chicken not tasty. Cocktails are also small. My Manhattan was small and in a small glass. I asked and was told it was a measured drink. My 2nd was better. Not thinking we will return, unfortunately, because we really wanted am alternative to the many Iberian restaurants in the area. Service was attentive.

Neighborhood vibe that serves quality dishes is like the best of both worlds! We walked around the corner from our AirBNB https://www.airbnb.com/l/kHwrVl6M and discovered this gem in the neighborhood. My host was having a birthday and Burke's Team made sure we had a wonderful time. All of our selections were flavorful and came in ample portions. I am wishing I had a slice of that cheesecake right now!

Very quaint restaurant. We both had the burger, very disappointing. Burger meat was very small served on a huge bun. Fries were very basic. Definitely not worth 18 bucks!

This is hands down one of the best brunch spots I've been to in the area! Everything was absolutely delicious and very fresh. Bright, cute and warm interior and fantastic service. Be warned parking is tough and is all street parking (to be anticipated). They also don't have as many vegetarian options and they aren't able to make substitutes with a lot of dishes. The best items were the breakfast potatoes (a must to get) and the chickpea appetizer was amazing!

Very friendly and warm staff. Unfortunately, the oven broke while we were there so we had to change our order from pizza. I chose the crispy chicken sandwich and I was not disappointed! It was excellent! The ambience is so charming!

Open airy ambiance and a nice place to meet over drinks. Good service but for some reason they were all out of IPAs and micro brews and we had to settle for our option #3 (like San Adams)

We had tickets to see show at the PNC Art Center! Search for restaurants near the center! Found Has good reviews! Made reservations. Staff was friendly! Retro decor- loved it! Enjoyed cocktails and dinner! My sandwich was huge!! Loved the show string fries. Had a lovely experience! Highly recommend! Lucky we were able to find street parking between the restaurant and center. Took a 20 minute stroll from the restaurant to center! Enjoyed the street art! Lots of murals.

My husband, two small girls, and I enjoyed Burke's Tavern. We ordered a pizza, pork sandwich, pasta, and a flatbread starter. Everything tasted great. I think the favorite was the pork sandwich. The service was good. When I think Tavern, I think bar/pub type setting. While there is a bar, this is a more upscale than casual feel I equate with a tavern. Nonetheless, the menu reads well and I would go again.

Burke's Tavern has amazing food, service and a cozy ambiance. I highly recommend this place if you want to eat at a cozy neighborhood restaurant that serves really good food. We came here for an early birthday dinner. We got a burger with a deep fried pepper and large capers -- delicious! We also got the burrata pizza, little gem salad, lamb meatballs, buffalo wings, and the steak frites. We walked out full and happy.

Donut balls of some sort with ice cream

If you ever find yourself wandering through Newark wondering where to eat while dodging New Jersey drivers, let me guide you to Burke's Tavern. We walked in expecting decent food and left feeling like I should apologize to my taste buds for underestimating the place. Lighting was great, plenty of seats and good music in the background. We felt very hip...probably didn't look hip, but definitely felt hip. The Moroccan Lamb Meatballs were so tender and flavorful that we briefly forgot we were in New Jersey. The fresh tomato, grilled flat bread and yogurt made it taste like a small vacation where nobody asks you to help move furniture. The Prosciutto and Arugula pizza was outstanding. Do yourself a favor and get the chili oil. It turns the pizza from a great dinner into a spiritual awakening. Seriously solid pizza. The Gochu Crispy Chikin sandwich was no joke. The chicken was super crunchy, the sauce was delicious and the coleslaw had the perfect amount of zing! We liked it so much it was gone before we could take the picture. I do not remember the name, but the donut-like balls were just ok. A little dry. Not bad, but not writing home to grandma either. The ice cream that came with them though was fantastic. Smooth, cold and exactly what I needed to make peace with the donut situation. The staff was attentive and seemed happy to be there, even when I pointed out a typo on the menu (Lager was spelled Larger). Overall, Burke's Tavern surprised me in the best way. Go hungry and bring someone who will not judge you for ordering half the menu.

I decided to do their tour on a Saturday with a group of friends and I'm so glad we did! This place is definitely one of Newark's hidden gems! The distillery takes walk-ins but I would 100% recommend doing a pre-booked tour. Prior to your visit, buy your tour ticket on their website or Groupon. The ticket comes with a drink, a tour of the facility, tastings, and a souvenir! The owner Gil, is knowledgeable & so welcoming! He gave us an informative tour and allowed us to taste a few of his great products. If I had to choose two favorites I would go with the Malt & Grain Pot Still Whiskey and the Cathouse Pink Pepper Gin. The whiskey, gin, and vodka are all so smooth. You really can't go wrong with any choice! The bartender was amazing & gave us great conversation along with recommendations for drinks! This place is BYOF (bring your own food) so feel free to order a pizza or a light dinner from somewhere nearby! This was an awesome experience & I will definitely be back!

The food is probably the closest you can get to actual Spanish tapas but what i love most about this place is that everythings got flavorrrrr For our table of 4 we got CROQUETAS with their house cured chorizo- very good POLLO FIORENTINA- chicken was so tender and packeddd with flavor! BARRIGUITA- plentiful serving for a tapa, we loved the potatoes it came with too CHICHARRON DE POLLO- flavorful chicken and easier to eat than you think TARTAR- delish but small Chipirones- sooo delicately breaded you can barely tell, was great COSTILLA A LA PLANCHA- plentiful for a tapa, we recommend cooking for longer since its traditionally a tough cut of beef SAUTED VEGETABLES- tastey and not mushy thankfully! The food was absolutely amazing really flavorful and well done. Just be a little prepared that most dishes come in smaller portions. But the quality definitely makes up for it. I ordered the paella, and it's easily enough for two or even three people and it was well worth it. Really delicious. The drinks were also definitely worth trying while you're there. The only thing I wasn't big on was the desserts they didn't quite live up to the rest of the meal. But overall, great atmosphere, excellent food, and a fun experience. I'd definitely come back.
