My friends family swears by the apple turnovers here. I wasn't such a huge fan, I feel like a turnover should be delicate and crispy. This was very soft and mushy. The filling was good though, much like the chicken empanadas. Super super soft, no crunch to it at all but the filling was tasty. The personal pizzas here stole the show. They were really nice, the sauce was delicious, very thin crust. I would come back just for the pizza. Weird, I know. I also tried a peanut butter cup. It was good but nothing to write home about. Very bland, not too sweet which isn't a bad thing. It's not something I would get again. They have an excellent selection of breads. A wall full of Italian breads. There's also a coffee station and a few small tables to sit and enjoy your treats. I like that they offer a lot of savory options. They had egg sandwiches available too. There's 15 minute parking right in front of the store.

I was able to have another peanut butter and jelly donut, but unlike the last few times I have had one here, it was not as good. First, it was much smaller than previous visits. It could have just been one of those days, but the size was a big disappointment. The other issue was that it was not as tasty and delicious. There just seemed to be something lacking when I ate the donut this time around. It was still appetizing, but not as refreshing as I remember. Like previously mentioned, it could have just been an off day.

Chocolate, fruit, custard and buttercream birthday cake! I forgot to take a picture before we started cutting it.

This review is for a chocolate cake that Boyfriend ordered for my birthday. It was fabulous, with fresh fruit in it and a really nice buttercream frosting. Everybody was really pleasantly surprised by how good the cake was, since we generally do ice cream cakes for birthdays, and was asking where it came from. He brought it over on a Saturday morning, and it was enjoyed by everybody at my birthday party. My roommates and I were still finishing it on Wednesday and the cake was still really moist.

I go here to get the best bread in town. Plaza always have unique foods to eat and tables to sit at. But, no WiFi internet

Terrible service and cakes. The owner and staff were incredibly unprofessional with an issue after all information was given. Don't go here!

I love the pies at Plaza Pastry. During the holidays especially, I always buy extra to give as gifts for house parties.

With all the old guard now in the history books I began searching for a new reliable bakery. Very first visit here and... I was on the fence. Second visit... okay, I'm a fan. Subsequent visits... actually I'm a big fan. From red velvet cookies to Sfogliatella to carrot cake - they have more than enough treats to quell your sweet tooth. The breads (the reason I find myself here most times) - incredible. Rolls (of varying sizes) as well as a damn perfect bastone (crunchy and flaky, ready to be piled high for a sandwich) not to mention... the almighty Pizza Bread?! Oh, yeah. A bit more rare to find but the only proper 'pane' if/when you're going to make an Italian hot dog. They also have a side/section with a full deli if savory is more your speed. Cool staff. Good pricing. Metered street parking but be warned... this one specific street feels more like a strip mall - with probably a dozen businesses (liquor stores to salons to fitness centers to a few restaurants to...) - all vying for those spots. (And if you ever need an icebreaker at a social gathering... tell 'em "da Vinci" wasn't actually Leonardo's last name. You're sure to be a hit at the party!)

As a young kid from Louisiana, one of the first things I missed was the culture, flavor, and sweet treats that reminded me of home in New Orleans. Back then, my teammates used to tease me relentlessly about being the "fat rookie from Louisiana" because I was always chasing pralines, cookies, pastries, and every sugary delight imaginable. Not long after arriving, I stumbled upon a hidden gem that instantly made me feel at home -- Lyndhurst Pastry Shop. This led me to "SACKING" tons of NFC QB's over the years. From day one, Paulette, Jerry, her father, and the entire staff have treated me like family. Decades later, they are still absolutely knocking it out of the park. Whether it's their incredible Italian ice, authentic cannoli, specialty cookies, or my personal weakness -- their unbelievable apple rings -- this place never disappoints. Truth be told, I can't stop there without bringing one home for my wife. Some places serve food. Others serve memories, tradition, and comfort. Lyndhurst Pastry Shop has done that for me for over 40 years. A true North Jersey institution. Five stars isn't enough -- if I could give them 10 stars, I absolutely would. Leonard A. I ordered the Christmas Honey balls ($19.95) and the Fudge Layer Cake ($29.50) and while I disagree with the credit card fee being passed to the consumer, the quality of the product exceeds that cost. Inside the venue is a true classic bakery atmosphere and while there is usually a line, the service is brisk and moves fairly quickly. If you want to impress your holiday season guests, family or friends, the LPS is the right venue for traditional Italian baked goods and desserts! As i return to NJ for the holidays, I will make at least three or four stops at LPS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I placed a cake order a week before my birthday photoshoot and provided a clear reference photo plus detailed instructions to the baker, Elizabeth, over phone and text. I even came in person to pay a $20 deposit because I wasn't comfortable giving my card over the phone. What I requested was simple: A white, heart-shaped cake with pearls, curtain detailing, black bows, and elegant black cursive writing that said "Chapter 30." Unfortunately, what I received looked nothing like what I asked for. * Photo 1: What I asked for * Photo 2: First attempt -- extremely disappointing * Photo 3: Second attempt -- still not what I asked for When I came to pick up the cake, I was visibly disappointed. The tall male supervisor apologized and told me, "I'll see if we can fix it. Please come back in the morning." I explained how inconvenient it was to come three separate times for one cake: once for the deposit, once for pickup, and again because of their poor quality. He assured me that the supervisor, Corrine, would call me the next morning about the revision and compensation for the inconvenience. That call never came. On the morning of my photoshoot, I had to call THEM to find out if the cake had even been fixed. Corrine sent a photo of the revised cake, and it still looked unprofessional. She said I would receive a refund if I remained unhappy -- yet I never received my apology, and I still never received my $20 refund. I'm sharing this review so others are aware. This bakery used to represent quality, but clearly that standard no longer exists. After showing the photos to friends and family, several revealed they've had similar disappointing experiences recently as well. The most embarrassing part? My mother named me after this bakery because of its reputation and legacy in Newark. After this experience, that association feels more embarrassing than meaningful. Calandra's bakery, do better. Your long-time loyal customers deserve far more respect and care than this.
