Ordered a $200 custom cake through Instragram for my daughter's 2nd birthday party 2 and a half years ago. I messaged the company and I believe SJ took the order. She was highly recommended from an acquaintence. The theme was "2 sweet" I had sent her 2 photos for inspiration for an idea of what I wanted. I felt like I was an easy customer. I picked up the cake and I remember her finger nails looked dirty but I just thought it was from the cakes. At my initial first look of the cake, I liked it. I left it out in the shade, it was an outside party. When I looked at the cake, my daughter's name looked like it was slapped on by a child and the top fondant swirl on top was uneven. No big deal... When I finally cut into the cake, it was very hard and seemed very dry right away. Not a typical moist cake. I honestly had no desire to even taste it and felt bad distributing it out. I had asked a few people how they liked it and they even said it was dry but the icing and everything else was good. I think they tried to be nice. I messaged SJ telling her I was not happy with it and even my guests felt the same. She was speechless and her feelings were hurt that I didn't like the cake. When she asked what she can do, I told her I wanted 50% off. Since most of it went in the garbage too. She eventually became very defensive and blamed me and saying something about the butter and how it didn't melt in the shade or how I should've left it out longer..? Which I never heard of and also saying she uses fresh ingredients and all her cakes are fresh and she puts in a lot of time into each of her cakes. I do believe her so I don't understand why I felt my cake was so hard and dry. Her husband even messaged me too. I even showed her screen shots of what my guests said and how they agreed that the cake was very dry. She didn't like that I sent her what my guests said. I've walked past this place a million times and finally decided to try it. The gentleman who help was extremely friendly and informative. He explained the bakery's concept and how he could even customize a cupcake for me. I ended up picking a vanilla cupcake and slice of carrot cake. He pipped the vanilla cupcake fresh in front of me which I loved. The takeout containers were great and kept the frosting perfectly intact. The vanilla cupcake was pretty amazing. It takes a lot for me to like a cupcake and I wished I ordered another one. The buttercream was the perfect creamy texture without being overly sweet. The cake itself was super moist and delicious. My husbands eyes even lit up when he took a bite. The carrot cake slice wasn't quite as fresh but still tasted great. I would definitely come back for more cupcakes. When my sister addressed this the owner responded with rudeness stating that it's "her art". No sir your job is to make what you agreed to make when the costumer ordered it. This is not tiramisu . It tasted like boxed yellow cake, no lady fingers to be found, and the filling is not mascarpone but more of a cheesecake taste and consistency to it, no coffee taste to it either. Could not be any more sick to my stomach over the results of my cupcake order from this bakery and the insane amount of money I spent on them. I was very clear with them what I wanted, cupcakes with realistic looking flowers, for my daughter's 21st birthday. I provided photos as examples, and was told they could absolutely do them. They did not even come close. I'm 14 hours away so this was incredibly important to me, and when my daughter picked them up and showed me I was so upset with the quality that it was obvious and completely ruined what I had been looking forward to for weeks. She took the cupcakes because her party was in half an hour and had no idea what else to do, but said they ended up throwing them out because the frosting tasted like eating butter and the cake was bleh. I called to tell them how disappointed I was and was treated so nastily that I want everyone to be sure they do not trust their dream vision with this place. Days later and still makes me cry to see what they provided compared to the photos I supplied. They made an effort but did not have the skill to come anywhere close to "realistic". I should have just stuck with the tried and true, Gencarellis in Bloomfield. Gencarellis knocks it out of the park every time. They would also never keep money for a service they never provided. I emailed Drew about redeeming a gift certificate for one of their baking events. He refused to honor it for months, saying they don't have any events coming up & kept asking me to pay additional $100+ for "private event" instead, that I said I did not want. After several emails he told me to give him a call. As soon as he picked up the phone, he started yelling at me, not letting me speak, spewing a barrage of insults & saying things like: "I'm waiting here for you to say something worth listening to ". I repeatedly asked him to "kindly stop yelling at me & to let me speak". He refused, continued to yell & then hung up. Needless to say, my gift certificate will go to waste. This unprovoked outburst of aggression over the phone, at a customer who you have never even met, was shocking. I've never experienced such verbal assault in my life. I never write negative reviews, but this experience left me so shaken that I felt I had to. Especially because the store offers children's events & as a parent, I would never feel comfortable leaving my child here.
