My boss randomly decided to get some cupcakes for us at my job. It is nobody's birthday and not a special occasion. I didn't know you could get cup cakes for no reason. I heard it was about 45$ for a dozen cupcakes. That seems crazy expensive to me but I don't have much cupcake buying experience to make a good comparison. I only buy vegan food, I don't think they have any vegan options so if your vegan, make sure to check out their site before going. I wasn't gonna turn down free cupcakes and needed a sugar high. Choosing a cupcake was a hard decision, they all looked so good! I went with carrot cake, it was delicious and I was happy with my choice. I don't know why but my co-workers didn't seem to be as excited as I was so I got to have a red velvet cupcake to help me power through the afternoon and it was just as good! The next day, the box of cupcakes was still sitting around so I had another 2! Peanut butter chocolate & chocolate/chocolate. They were all delicious. I can't imagine getting a bad cupcake from this place. I also have no idea what is wrong with my co-workers but whatever, their loss. I ordered "jumbo" cupcakes, as I was told one jumbo cupcake feeds four people. I ordered 3 jumbos and all three were different sizes and all 3 were barely double a regular cupcake. Ordered a few for a BBQ. Went with a mix. They were out of a few flavors which was a bit disappointing but I just steered to other options. Once I got the box, I labeled each cupcake myself and there would have been no way for people to decipher them unless they looked them up. Cupcakes were fresh. I was a little surprised when they told me to total as 8 regular for $2.75 each and 1 that was I guess a specialty, costing extra. Second time visiting Mr.cupcake and although they are tasty cupcakes, the packaging ruins the product. They try to squeeze a dozen cupcakes in the smallest box and it ends up completely ruining the cupcake. I know I sound picky, but spending 50 dollars for 12 cupcakes to bring somewhere as a gift, I want the cupcakes not looking destroyed. This is the second time this has happened to me when ordering a dozen so keep in mind they will squish together. For myself I got the thin mint cupcake, brownie cupcake, lemon cupcake and cookie dough cupcake. I paid about $40 for everything. When I got to the car I had to try one. The thin mint cupcake was tasty but a bit too much frosting. Now the brownie cupcake on the other hand was soo good. It was soft and the taste was delicious. I have been a loyal customer of Mr. Cupcake for a long time. However, I recently had a terrible experience at the Clifton NJ location. My son wanted to surprise me on my birthday with a special cupcake cake from Mr. Cupcake, but unfortunately, the cupcake cake was disgusting. I contacted the manager the next day to express my concern, and she said she needed to speak with her boss to fix the issue. I had to drive for over 30 minutes to get to the location with the cupcake cake , which was overcooked, dry, and slightly burnt. After speaking with her boss over the phone I agreed to replace it with a dozen cupcakes that I gave away to my party attendees. This establishment lost a loyal customer. read more

Welcome to the best cupcakes in New Jersey! Let me start off by saying I hate cake and cupcakes. Just not that type of gal. These are the only cupcakes I'll eat and go out of my way to buy. However they bake them and whatever their recipe is for each, they're doing something different and some thing right. My favorite cupcakes are cookie jar, fruity pebbles, and cannoli. If you've never been, I recommend starting with the cookie jar first. It tastes exactly like a chocolate chip cookie in cupcake form. I've had all their cupcakes and they're all fun to taste and eat. I guess it really just depends on the day and the cupcake specialist. I drove all the way over here to get extremely stale and old cupcakes. I included a video of the hard and rubbery ICING (it's so old I can pick up the icing and move it) and discolored cake. The cupcake was warm not even room temp. Really disgusting. The young girl at the counter couldn't even tell me what flavor one of the cupcakes was, I didn't mind waiting for her to ask her manager but instead she tapped her phone and was visibly annoyed that I even asked. Maybe she was new but she definitely needs to be trained to handle customers before taking them on herself. I have an allergy so I ALWAYS have to ask. Anyway, cupcakes were not good. Waste of money. Have been to this place plenty of times and the cupcakes here are very good. They have a very large selection and come up with different flavors every time I come here. It's a small storefront that can get packed inside but the line usually moves pretty fast. First the cupcakes : all that I've tried have been moist and taste pretty good!!!! lol Sometimes frosting can be too sweet for me but that's a personal choice.....some people like it that way. That said most of the frosting is fine for me. Price: Very reasonable. Other places in the area are more expensive. My only complaint is the box. It's not good for transporting the cupcakes. They sorta get smushed and is not good for transportation the cupcakes. A small complaint I guess. They don't have to worry about getting my business.....lol read more

Wife did a random 6. I hated the carrot cake- hardly any carrot, no nuts, no raisins, and really light. The frosting though was really good- tart, not overly sweet, and worked being nice and thick. My favorite was the italian rainbow. I've had these before, and the topper cookies are always so stale but this little mini cookie was not only fresh it tasted great. The cookiejar was great, I liked the samoa, and wife let me taste the one with the cinnamon cross and that was excellent. Kiddo loved the blue cookie monster, but her fingers were blue for like 4 days. I get what people are talking about here when they say the frosting feels old. A few we tried the frosting was def stiff, and some tasted more like butter than frosting. The cupcakes we only ate 1/2 of were stale the next day sitting in the box, and buy day 3 were inedible, so only buy these the day you are planning to eat them would be my recommendation. read more

Loved Mr Cupcakes...the first few times I was here, but the last time I was here there was a couple of younger employees working and they just seemed like all they wanted was for me to get my cupcakes and leave. They always have a great selection here and their gluten free aren't bad either (it's hard to get great flavor in GF cupcakes that don't FEEL GF). Wifey has tried a few times, but doesn't love the red velvet, but the others have always been great. Some of our favorites and the Tres Leches, Oreo Cheesecake, red velvet, chocolate overboard and I particularly love the German Chocolate...Boston cream too, but it might put you into sugar overload. I have been a loyal customer since they opened the Clifton store. Usually love their products. Unfortunately that all changed Sunday when out of 14 cupcake 9 were so stale you couldn't not eat them. I reached out to the store only to be told that was completely impossible. I even sent a video but they still refused to help in any way. I should other reviews of people saying the same thing and they called me rude! I think Johnny has gotten to big for his britches! I recommend Kara Cakes, Eva's, or anywhere but here! I used to love this place. I've been going for a few years now. The last 3 times I've gone the cupcakes have not been fresh. 2 of those times were before Covid so it appears they have just gone down in quality. I always purchase at least 12 assorted cupcakes and the last 3 times every one of them has been some degree of stale. Please get it together. I must say the 2 stars go to their canoli cupcake which was pretty tasty. My oldest daughter was nice enough to share. It's basically eating the canoli creme on top of a cupcake. The texture of the cupcake could of been a bit more moist, but I was satisfied with it. Now as for the other 2 cupcakes: Hot Chocolate With marshmallows....well I found this very dry. Once a cupcake is dry, I pretty much move on. The fruity pebble cupcake was too sweet and my youngest son did not like it at all. The fruity pebbles on top were soggy....the frosting was just so sweet. He was so sad about it and I felt bad. The service was friendly and I was luckily enough to get there on time because they close at 6p on weekdays. They have a parking lot 3 stores down (All connected to Mr cupcakes) and sometimes if you get lucky you can get street parking right in front of the store. Just went to Mr. Cupcakes on Van Houten. The girl behind the counter was rude. I walked in the door and 2 seconds later she asks if im ready, i hadn't even looked at all the flavors. When i was asking about some of the cupcakes she was very short with her answers like she couldn't believe i had questions about them. Amazing service & delicious cupcakes. Bravo to Mr. Cupcakes, who created the perfect cupcake-cake to celebrate seniors on the Montclair High School Girls Soccer Team. It was gorgeous: Amanda did a masterful job recreating our custom design with a bulldog logo and 11 names & jersey numbers. (Tricky!) It was DELICIOUS: the shop honored our request for a mix of lemon, chocolate, and red velvet cupcakes, and guests could choose their favorite. It was affordable and ready on time, even though we submitted our order late. Best of all, it set a festive tone for our celebration and everyone was thrilled.
