As a 5-year Yelp Elite, I never enjoy leaving negative reviews. I know how much reviews can impact a business, so I try to be fair and focus on my actual experience. Unfortunately, this visit was one of the most disappointing bakery experiences I've had in quite a while. I visited the Clifton location with a gift certificate for four free cupcakes. When I walked in, I was actually excited because they had a large selection still available. At first, I thought that was a great sign because I had so many flavors to choose from. The employee behind the counter was very friendly and explained that the cupcakes on the left qualified for my four free cupcakes, while the ones on the right would be an additional charge. I appreciated her taking the time to explain everything. She was genuinely pleasant and was the highlight of my visit. I ended up choosing eight cupcakes altogether and paid about $15 out of pocket in addition to using my gift certificate. The first cupcake I tried was the Southern Red Velvet. I honestly couldn't believe how dry it was. It literally crumbled apart onto my plate with every bite. The frosting was just as disappointing. The texture was strange, almost rubbery, and it tasted stale instead of fresh. Thinking maybe I had just picked the wrong flavor, I opened the Birthday Cake Batter cupcake. Unfortunately, it was no better. It was just as dry, lacked flavor, and after a few bites I threw the rest away. The cupcake I was most excited about was the Tiramisu because it looked incredible on their Instagram page. Unfortunately, when I got home, it looked nothing like what was advertised. The presentation was completely different, and after my experience with the first two cupcakes, I had no desire to even taste it. Along with the six remaining cupcakes, it never left the box. After getting home, I made the mistake of reading the Yelp reviews. I wish I had done that before visiting because I found several people describing the same issues I experienced. That made me realize this likely wasn't just an off day. For a bakery that specializes in cupcakes, freshness should never be in question. Based on the two cupcakes I tasted, they were dry, stale, and simply not enjoyable. The fact that I lost all interest in trying the remaining six says more than anything else. Average cupcakes but something fun to get for a party. Parking: We parked in the parking lot next to Henry's Liquors and walked over. There was no line and we were given time to make our choices. Though we arrived around 2:35 and they closed at 3, nearly all of the flavors were in stock. I had a coupon for 4 free cupcakes and the attendant explained we could choose any cupcakes from the left case and any cupcakes from the bottom two rows in the right case except for the pina colada. We chose the following 4 flavors: Chocolate Sundae- Good but you can definitely taste the butter and sugar in the icing. Dunkaroos- Not bad but not reminiscent of that classic Dunkaroos flavor. Carrot cake- Overall the winner with nice thick cream cheese icing. Strawberries and cream- Just okay. Moist cake but no one in the crowd liked the icing. Ordered a few for a BBQ. Went with a mix. They were out of a few flavors which was a bit disappointing but I just steered to other options. Once I got the box, I labeled each cupcake myself and there would have been no way for people to decipher them unless they looked them up. Cupcakes were fresh. I was a little surprised when they told me to total as 8 regular for $2.75 each and 1 that was I guess a specialty, costing extra. My boss randomly decided to get some cupcakes for us at my job. It is nobody's birthday and not a special occasion. I didn't know you could get cup cakes for no reason. I heard it was about 45$ for a dozen cupcakes. That seems crazy expensive to me but I don't have much cupcake buying experience to make a good comparison. For myself I got the thin mint cupcake, brownie cupcake, lemon cupcake and cookie dough cupcake. I paid about $40 for everything. When I got to the car I had to try one. The thin mint cupcake was tasty but a bit too much frosting. Now the brownie cupcake on the other hand was soo good. It was soft and the taste was delicious. My son wanted to surprise me on my birthday with a special cupcake cake from Mr. Cupcake, but unfortunately, the cupcake cake was disgusting. I contacted the manager the next day to express my concern, and she said she needed to speak with her boss to fix the issue. I had to drive for over 30 minutes to get to the location with the cupcake cake , which was overcooked, dry, and slightly burnt. After speaking with her boss over the phone I agreed to replace it with a dozen cupcakes that I gave away to my party attendees. This establishment lost a loyal customer. read more

They try to squeeze a dozen cupcakes in the smallest box and it ends up completely ruining the cupcake. I know I sound picky, but spending 50 dollars for 12 cupcakes to bring somewhere as a gift, I want the cupcakes not looking destroyed. This is the second time this has happened to me when ordering a dozen so keep in mind they will squish together. I guess it really just depends on the day and the cupcake specialist. I drove all the way over here to get extremely stale and old cupcakes. I included a video of the hard and rubbery ICING (it's so old I can pick up the icing and move it) and discolored cake. The cupcake was warm not even room temp. Really disgusting. The young girl at the counter couldn't even tell me what flavor one of the cupcakes was, I didn't mind waiting for her to ask her manager but instead she tapped her phone and was visibly annoyed that I even asked. Have been to this place plenty of times and the cupcakes here are very good. They have a very large selection and come up with different flavors every time I come here. It's a small storefront that can get packed inside but the line usually moves pretty fast. First the cupcakes : all that I've tried have been moist and taste pretty good!!!! lol Sometimes frosting can be too sweet for me but that's a personal choice.....some people like it that way. That said most of the frosting is fine for me. Price: Very reasonable. Other places in the area are more expensive. My only complaint is the box. It's not good for transporting the cupcakes. Welcome to the best cupcakes in New Jersey! Let me start off by saying I hate cake and cupcakes. Just not that type of gal. These are the only cupcakes I'll eat and go out of my way to buy. However they bake them and whatever their recipe is for each, they're doing something different and some thing right. My favorite cupcakes are cookie jar, fruity pebbles, and cannoli. If you've never been, I recommend starting with the cookie jar first. It tastes exactly like a chocolate chip cookie in cupcake form. I've had all their cupcakes and they're all fun to taste and eat. My favorite was the italian rainbow. I've had these before, and the topper cookies are always so stale but this little mini cookie was not only fresh it tasted great. The cookiejar was great, I liked the samoa, and wife let me taste the one with the cinnamon cross and that was excellent. Kiddo loved the blue cookie monster, but her fingers were blue for like 4 days. I get what people are talking about here when they say the frosting feels old. A few we tried the frosting was def stiff, and some tasted more like butter than frosting. Loved Mr Cupcakes...the first few times I was here, but the last time I was here there was a couple of younger employees working and they just seemed like all they wanted was for me to get my cupcakes and leave. The cupcakes have been great here for a long time so the three stars was just because of the service (I'm a bit of a stickler). They always have a great selection here and their gluten free aren't bad either (it's hard to get great flavor in GF cupcakes that don't FEEL GF). Wifey has tried a few times, but doesn't love the red velvet, but the others have always been great. Some of our favorites and the Tres Leches, Oreo Cheesecake, red velvet, chocolate overboard and I particularly love the German Chocolate...Boston cream too, but it might put you into sugar overload. This place is a crapshoot. It's either hit or miss, sometimes the cupcakes are fresh and moist and sometimes they are dry and stale. I asked if they were fresh during my last visit and they claimed that they were. When I got home they were very dry and appeared to be a few days old. I reached out to the store only to be told that was completely impossible. I even sent a video but they still refused to help in any way. The last 3 times I've gone the cupcakes have not been fresh. 2 of those times were before Covid so it appears they have just gone down in quality. I always purchase at least 12 assorted cupcakes and the last 3 times every one of them has been some degree of stale. Please get it together. I must say the 2 stars go to their canoli cupcake which was pretty tasty. My oldest daughter was nice enough to share. It's basically eating the canoli creme on top of a cupcake. When i made my choices she didn't even put on gloves to touch them! Answered the phone and was speaking with other customers while i was in the middle of my order.
