I've driven by this place many times but it's typically been in the morning when they're not open but I finally decided to try them out. The reviews said that their portions were pretty generous and I absolutely can confirm this! I ordered 2 meals - Garlic Chicken w Rice and Black Beans and the Sirloin with Cole Slaw and Salad and I honestly have enough food for 4 meals (& their prices are super reasonable). I used to love The Pit and the flavor of their BBQ chicken with rice and beans. However, I'm not a fan of their steamed vegetables. If they cooked it correctly is shouldn't have a blast of water in my mouth when I take a bite, so the question is whether it's boiled but advertised as steamed? I also ordered a half order of their garlic shrimp and was so disappointed by the size of the shrimp. Now when I say they were small, they were tiny, like 36-45 pieces a pound small! Very small spot; definitely more of a take-out joint. They have a few tables if you want to sit and eat, but this definitely isn't the place you make reservations at. When I came in, most of the tables were full and the food seemed to be moving. Thankfully, they have their own parking lot, which makes for a quick and easy pick-up if you wanna swing by and grab some grub. On to the food: The ribs were delicious! Seasoned very well and cooked to perfection. They serve big portions, so a full size can easily feed 3-4 people (unless you eat A LOT). I got the side salad, which was great, and the cole slaw, which was wayyyy too wet. Great flavor, just too drenched in sauce. Im Portuguese and loveeee Portuguese food, so I'm glad I found this place since it's 10 minutes away from where I live. Definitely my new go-to when I want some quick food. I usually don't leave reviews but I can tell you this review needed to be given. I have been ordering from The Pit for the last 3 years. Found them during the pandemic and they became one of my favorite go to restaurants. The last couple of times I ordered from them for delivery the food was not up to par. At all. I chalked it up to ok they had a bad day. Today wil be the very last time I order from them. They should be ashamed of what they sent to me which by the way was a totally inedible. The shish kebobs were so dry I couldn't even chew the beef. One of the beef cubes was entirely bone with fat. The chicken was so dry I couldn't swallow. The beef ribs were dry! The rice was dry and so was the chicken empanada. The only thing that wasn't dry was the Cole slaw but what was I supposed eat the Cole slaw with if the rest of my entree was dried completely out. I could not believe how disgusted it made me. It tasted like it was leftover from last year or it was the warmed over lunch items that now they are serving for dinner. I am so dissatisfied and upset and believe me I wanted to be fair but this really ended it for me. Especially when you spend your hard earned money in this economy thinking you are getting quality food that could serve as dinner for my family for at least 2 days but all of it is inedible!!! The blatant negligence in the way the food I received was prepared today was offensive. Shame on you The Pit in Bloomfield NJ!!!!
