Looking for crispy flavorful juicy chicken? Have no fear, CM Chicken is there... nestled right near the corner of Bloomfield Ave and Park St in the beautiful town of Montclair, if you head down just two flights of steps you will find yourself at CM Chicken. It can be easy to miss since it's on the lower level. The restaurant is chill, basic, several tables and chairs, menu on the wall... the logo and two tvs ...all the things needed to eat chicken in peace. Although the restaurant itself is nothing to write home about, but THE CHICKEN is delicious. I went on a Sunday afternoon and there was no one down there so I was instantly greeted by an older Asian man. He took my order and welcomed me to grab a seat and in about 15 minutes out came deliciousness. I ordered the garlic soy wings and mozzarella sticks (idk why I did) ... Listen we won't focus on the mozzarella sticks, let's focus on the Chicken. I took my order to go and when I got to finally eat it, the chicken was still hot and crispy even after about 30mins went by from the time I left the restaurant. The sweet/savory and spicy flavor definitely had me wanting more! I will be back for sure! read more

The tteokbokki and soy garlic wings are a great combo for a rainy day. The tteokbokki had a nice spicy kick to it but not too spicy with the cheese added. It has a generous amount of fish cakes and cabbage. The wings were made to order and came out very crispy and hot. The place is clean and has plenty of tables. Music could be a bit too loud but overall vibe is nice. The staff there is very nice and service is fast. read more

Family favorite for tenders. It's a Sunday staple in my house. I enjoy the wings but need them a bit more spicy. I like the onion slaw on the side. The seasoned wedges are a must! Food always delivered and it arrives hot. Funny story: it smelled so good a squirrel opened our screen door trying to get a piece. read more

This place is located downstairs, its easy to miss. I came here on a Tuesday for lunch. I ubered from my job since parking on bloomfield ave is slim to none. We were greeted by a nice lady. We ordered half spicy soy garlic wings with a side of fries. I had the chicken sandwhich. The sandwhich was good. I dont like thigh meat only breast meat, but i should of asked before ordering. My cousin said the wings were good. The food came out fresh and hot and it cane in a big portion. read more

Revisiting and my opinion has not changed since I've tried this over a year ago. Literally if not the best chicken tenders I've had. I'm not talking about boneless chicken or chicken wings. In terms of chicken tenders I haven't had better than here overall. The flavor was on point. I got the soy garlic tikku chicken but it was not your ordinary soy garlic, there's some kick to it which adds to the flavor. Maybe they should relabel it spicy soy garlic! If I had any critique I wish it was more crunchy. Needless to say, I will be back. read more

When I CM I Eat'em. CM Chicken offers a wide selection of items on menu that are not traditionally found on a korean bbq menu. Besides a very tasty menu of chicken toppings and flavors they also offer fries that are straight cut, waffled, curled or wedged. Onion rings, mozzarella sticks, calamari, gizzards & shrimps are also fried up for your order. My favorite is soy garlic but this round we got a family order of plain with cups of dipping flavors. We also ordered the cheesy wings thats are so flavorful they make your mouth water. The chicken wings are meaty, crispy and full of flavor. The Tikku chicken is also a favorite as it is fried and charcoal grilled. My next visit I am definitely trying the Snow Onion chicken wings. read more

My lady and I love the Ridgefield location. We finally decided to try the Montclair one the other day. We always get the Korean corn dog and usually the soy garlic wings. Was very glad to see the extensive menu at the Montclair location. Plus all the seating is a definite plus. Certainly an improvement on the 2 seater window counter in Ridgefield. Sadly it's where the advantage ends. The corn dog was more of the American fair variety with a stale crust. My girl did not enjoy the gizzards at all. She had one. I don't mind the tough texture as much as she clearly did. I do think the gizzards would benefit from being pressure cooked in order to tenderize them more. But I did enjoy the flavor overall (even though they weren't very spicy.) The wings were less spicy than the Ridgefield CM, but much greasier. I'm glad we tried, but I think we will stick to old reliable from here on out. Go and give them a try and make your own decision. ENJOY!!! read more

Fabulous flavors with questionable service and ambiance. With the proliferation of Korean fried chicken options available, it is hard for any individual joint to stand out. The chicken itself was moist and fresh. Soy Tikku was flavorful, however the real seller was the crisp skin. The Spicy Garlic packed a punch, but the amount of heat was tolerable. The waffle fries and onion rings were plenty hot and fresh from the kitchen. Unfortunately, the dining room left much to be desired. The smoke alarm beeped incessantly, asking for the battery to be changed during the entire dining experience. While the staff's enthusiasm compensated for their lack of experience, the neophyte server could have benefitted from more training by more experienced members. Perhaps management tries to distract diners by booming KPOP tracks such as "Oopsy" by Weki Weki, over their speakers, but the decor did not match the vibe of the restaurant. If you have the choice, order takeout. read more

Chicken glorified! I came here with 2 friends and the owner greeted us right away and explained the menu. The perfectly crispy Tikku Garlic Soy (sweet and savory) Chicken Wings which were marinated, fried, then charcoal-grilled boasted classic flavors. Then we also enjoyed the Snow Onion Curry Chicken Wings which arrived with a huge pile of onions and curry sauce. Both of these dishes came with 8 big and filling wings and marinated daikon along with celery and carrot sticks with ranch sauce. Then the Red Hot (spicy but not the kind that kicks your ass) Gizzards were amazing and could be perfect as a snack. Besides these items, their menu's pretty vast with ricey chicken bowls, chicken burgers, and a whole bunch of fun sides. To drink, we tried Milki- a yummy South Korean dairy-based soda which worked really well with the food. Everything's just so clucking good! NOTES/TIPS: **Below Street level down some stairs. **Excellent service throughout. BYOB. **Order via yelp, ChowNow, DoorDash, Grubhub, Seamless, Postmates, and Uber Eats. read more

Coming from Cali, where we have tons of KFC (korean fried chicken) such as Vons, Bonchon, and bb.q chicken...I think my expectations were a bit too high. I also partially attribute my lackluster experience to ordering the boneless chicken assorted flavors. I hate boneless chicken but didn't know it was boneless from the menu (menu is a bit confusing, all over the place). I think the flavors have potential but I was very disappointed in either the classic spicy korean flavor. It tasted a bit too...herbally. I will be back to give this place another chance as sometimes, ordering the wrong food isn't a fair shake for the restaurant. Not serving beer though, was a big bummer. Who eats KFC without beer?! They do have an assortment of drinks that are appealing but I'd much prefer beer over sweet drinks. read more

I love korean fried chicken and this may be the most juicy and tender chicken I've ever had!! I had the soy garlic tikku wings and they were amazing. Me and my fiance can't wait to come by again and become regulars here! the place is downstairs, but they have a sign that's very easy to spot. there's a small outdoor dining spot that is cute. the indoor space is cute reminds me of like a taco place interior, but it is cute nonetheless! prices were a bit on the higher side, but it's worth it!! there was a 15% discount via Yelp, but we forgot to use it, but that would definitely help with sealing the deal to get these wings if pricing was a concern :) read more

This place has been getting a lot of buzz lately, which can cut both ways - it may very well be worth the hype, but it just as often means it's overrated to some degree. Thankfully CM Chicken is more of the former. I stopped by here for lunch yesterday (a Friday afternoon). The restaurant was completely deserted save a handful of employees, and the fellow behind the counter seemed mildly surprised that I wanted to eat in (I got the impression from the customers who came in during my visit that this is almost exclusively a takeout establishment during weekday lunchtimes). It's a nice basement space that you access from the street via a flight of stairs - constructive feedback, that was starting to look a little rickety and could use an upgrade. The two TVs on the wall were airing K-Pop music videos, so if you don't like eating with Dance Dance Revolution music playing in the background, this might not be for you. I don't like bones in my meat unless it's ribs, so I opted for the soy garlic chicken tenders ($15 or $16). Very generous portion; I was pretty hungry coming in so I was able to devour it in one sitting, but you could easily make this into two meals. The flavor was amazing, and the meat itself extremely juicy/tender. I'm always slightly leery of Korean BBQ because it's so easy to feel disgusting after eating it (that's a genre that's never going to be mistaken for health food), but I walked out feeling pleasantly full and not uncomfortable. My recommendation would be to avoid getting any type of side with this - I'm sure a few extra bites here would have tipped the scales literally and figuratively for me. The food came out within five or 10 minutes, and the service was exceptional - it definitely helps that nobody else was in there, but the guy behind the counter/waiter was attentive without being overbearing and got the check for me probably within 30 seconds of consuming my last bite. Doesn't get much better than that. I wasn't even halfway done with my meal before I reached out to a friend who lives nearby to alert them to this recommendation. Don't sleep on this place - it's not a hidden gem, but it is a gem nonetheless. read more

A great addition to the Montclair community. On my visit, I had the traditional wings with the soy garlic cause on the side. I will say that the soy garlic is spicier than any other soy garlic that I've had in the past. So if you don't like spice at all get it on the side. I am happy that I got the sauce on the side because it really allowed me to taste how flavorful, well seasoned and well friend the chicken itself was. Perfect amount of batter and seasoning. I can't wait to go back and try other options! Only request is for a sauce that is not spicy. It is also not handicap accessible. (Not their fault, just a result of the location) read more

This place has the right idea of where they wanted to open. There's good amount of pop culture designs and style on your way to the restaurant and inside too. It's a good korean chicken spot for the area. We left so full and we brought leftovers home. And there's a soda yogurt drink that I tried for the first time and I so enjoyed it. There were no patrons when I stoped by for lunch. I asked what was on the basic CM sandwich. I was told mayo, slaw and tomato. I also asked if the chicken was cooked to order, I was told yes. I ordered and when my meal was ready, it was brought out to my table. The fries were fresh & hot but not too much flavor, they needed salt, none on table. The sandwich was served on a huge bun, you could not see the chicken. I took a bite and almost barfed. It was chewy and rubbery, tasted precooked and microwaved. I took bun off to find this tiny old chicken that was probably cooked the day before and reheated. There was also cheese! I wasn't told there would be cheese, I hate cheese on a chicken sandwich! What a disappointment! I can't believe these good reviews. Beware not fresh, precooked chicken! No crunch, soggy! See photo! This was not take away! I reached out to establishment with photos and they never bothered to respond, that says a lot! Worst lunch ever! read more

Ordered: 1lb Seasoned Wings (~$15): Spicy Garlic flavor 1lb Tikku Wings (~$16): Soy Garlic flavor 1lb Snow Wings (~$16): Curry Snow Onion flavor Curly Fries (~$5) Diet Pepsi bottle (~$3) Aya's take: The chokehold that Korean fried chicken has me in is unexplainable. Super excited to try this place and stopped by with a couple of friends around 7:30pm on a Saturday. The weather wasn't great but I was surprised to see this place empty. They must get more take-out orders. Despite it not being busy, it took about 40 minutes to get our orders. That's longer than I've ever had to wait at any Korean fried chicken place. All 3 Wing orders were delicious in flavor. I really enjoyed the Tikku - Soy Garlic but the Curry Snow Onion flavor was impressive! The onions are cut extremely thin and are super cold, topped with the curry sauce. It complimented the hot and crispy fried chicken so well. The Curly Fries were pretty average and unfortunately, they brought them out long before our Wing orders came out. Aside from the service, you will not be disappointed with the fried chicken here! I had Sucha great experience from the moment I walked in to the moment I left with my leftovers. The ambiance was low key but spacious. Great place for groups or sharing food with friends. I came a little early for lunch so I was seated immediately. Drink options add standard bottle beverages. No alcohol here. The menu was a bit overwhelming because there's a lot of options and it can be tough to navigate. The server was there to save the say and weigh in on his recommendations. Appetizers I did the gizzards, calamari, and fries. Everything was so good, I'm a huge fan of fried gizzards and they cooked em perfectly. Next - chicken and chicken burger. The chicken wings were so crispy and delicious. Big fan of Korean fried chicken, there's was so tasty. I did the regular soy garlic . For the sandwich I did spicy, it was so good!!! I love spicy chicken, cooked spot on. 5 stars all around! Would come back and definitely bringing a big group. read more

The overall experience of dining here was good. The staff are friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have. The food came out pretty quickly and it was hot, which is a plus! The sides were my favorite out of everything we tried. I highly recommend the fried calamari and fried shrimp; the fried dumplings and cheese sticks were good too! The chicken was decent in that the wings were cooked well and not dry at all. However, the taste and texture aren't very authentic compared to other Korean fried chicken (KFC) I've had. The batter was thick, making the chicken feel heavy/greasy, which shouldn't be the case with KFC especially when it's double fried properly. The experience was more like eating American fried chicken with Asian inspired sauces rather than KFC itself. We were also served carrots and celery with ranch instead of pickled radish, which are a must for KFC! The flavors we tried were soy green onion, garlic spicy, soy garlic tikku (this was the best one bc of the char flavor), and cheese monster. The seasoned, raw green onions definitely helped cut the grease! read more

Wow. This place is awesome. TLDR: Go now and order the soy garlic tikku wings. They're DELICIOUS. FOOD: YUM. I've been here a few times and I've tried the tikku wings (soy garlic flavor), whole chicken (soy garlic flavor), spicy garlic wings, and original wings. Soy garlic tikku is definitely my favorite. The original are fine but totally boring. My dad really likes the soy scallion topping! AMBIANCE: I've only gotten take out, but I do enjoy that they have 2 TVs that play K-Pop music videos! Solid Korean fried chicken spot in the area. I'm a big fan of Korean fried chicken. We came based on the raving reviews. What was disappointing was the service. I'm not sure what happened but we came with a party of 10 and felt like during the whole time we were there, they did not check up on us. No refill on the water, no taking out the dirty plates, no checking on us to see if we like the food. Nothing. We had to go up to them to ask for everything. Two people from our party also arrived an hour late, it would have made sense if they checked on us to see if we needed to place more food order or if we needed anything else, but nope. We had to go up to them tell them we needed to order more food. We ordered a bunch of items here including waffle fries, onion rings, regular fries, fried shrimp, whole fried chicken with sauce on the side for dipping, green onion chicken and the tikku chicken. Everything was pretty decent besides that the tikku chicken was too sweet IMO and not garlicky enough compare to other KFC places not too far away in fort lee. Overall, it seems like other people here had awesome service so I'm not sure if they just ignored us since we were such a large group or what. I would probably only do take out again if I'm ever in the area but would much rather go to fort lee for my KFC read more

This place is new to me and I think if has great prospects. I had the cheese flavored boneless pieces and onion rings. They also provided milkiss and radish. The chicken pieces were a very good size. Very consistent and substantial in size. You're definitely getting a lot of korean fried chicken for the price. The breading was also well adhered which is of course important. The onion rings used thick rings and was also of high quality. I am glad this great option for korean fried chicken is now available here and I think you should try them out. My crappy iphone SE camera has sinned against this chicken. The pictures do not do it justice. We got the wasabi green onion fried chicken and and an order of curly fries. The bowl of pickled radish you see is free with any chicken purchase I think. It's mildly sweet and you have to take a little much of radish with a little much of chicken or your korean card gets revoked. I think the chicken itself is pretty different than regular korean fried chicken. It's not that light/super crispy rice flour battered chicken that you get at Bonchon, but like a more sturdy/crisp cousin. Think Popeyes, but not as oily. I highly recommend the wasabi green onion. It cut the oil perfectly and gave just the right kick. read more

Was craving some fried chicken and Yelp brought me to CM Chicken. From the outside, the place looks festive. You have to walk a few steps down off the sidewalk to the entrance. The inside however is very no frills. It seems like takeout is most popular bc there were quite a few orders behind the counter. We ordered the tikku soy garlic wings which were our favorite. Definitely recommend! It's not overly spicy and there's a mild sweetness to it, but not enough to turn off any spice lovers. We also got the Spicy Garlic chicken tenders. Spicy garlic was just too spicy for me, and this coming from someone who likes spice. So beware. The chicken itself was thoroughly breaded and extra crispy. For takeout, it travelled 15 mins in the car home and still maintained crisp and crunchiness. A bit pricy at $15/16 an order but it's good when you want some chicken to hit the spot. It came with a side of daikon to cut the spice. Would recommend. read more

Came in for lunch on Sunday and was seated immediately. The vibes were chill and they played BTS songs the entire time. We ordered 1lb Soy Garlic Wings, 1lb Snow Onion Wings, and Curly fries. Fries came out first and we absolutely devoured them, they were so crispy and hot! We loved them so much we ended up putting in another order. The soy garlic wings are a korean fried chicken classic and you honestly can't go wrong. I also liked that they were a little bit spicy. The snow onion is kind of like a creamy mayo sauce but it worked really well with the freshness of the onions. The chicken was super crispy and juicy, and were a decent size as well. My only complaint is that they're a little bit overpriced, 8 wings for $16. It's a decent spot and the food is really good. It does the job in satisfying that craving if you're close by! read more

Bruh. This is bomb Korean fried chicken. That is all. The place is new, but it doesn't look like it. That's why I didn't give it 5 stars, and maybe should have given it 3. Because you know, you eat with your eyes first. Im saying this solely because I had a chance to peek through the swinging doors of the kitchen and lowkey, it wasn't the most tidy. Nonetheless I just prayed that the hot grease would handle it all. The dining space is okay. You can tell they tried. The location is a walkdown which gives cool obscure vibes. Very clean and organized, each table has utensils, napkins, waste basket. We were immediately greeted and led over to the register to order. Both the hostess and cashier were friendly, courteous, and answered any questions well. Hubby enjoyed the snow onion tenders, he loved the sauce that came with them. Regular fries were crispy and seasoned. I got the soy garlic tikku style which was described as fried than grilled and would be crispier. They may have not been as crispy bc we did take out but a big plus is that each container wasn't shut completely but rubber banded to not open to keep things crisp! Good fried chicken joint in Montclair, surrounded by a million other restaurants and businesses. Nothing fancy but they have sit down service (nice waitor) and a few TVs playing korean television. At the entrance there are also some Squid Game movie decorations which i found entertaining. Parking is all metered street parking, however nearby there was a parking lot with a sign saying ten dollars. The tikka soy garlic wings were a hit. The snow onion wings are good if you want plain fried chicken drenched in white onions and a mayo based sauce. You gotta like onions! My favorite was the fried shrimp. The wings were fried to a perfection & the dumplings had the right amount of crisp to them- I didn't really even need the soy sauce. The Milkis was my favorite part because it was an authentic Korean drink! It tasted similar to Caribbean soda but melon flavored. Ordered the whole chicken red hot, takeout, and have to say I was disappointed. For me, the point of fried chicken is a crisp, fried texture, which you can manage even with "spicy" if you just add the spices into the batter. Instead, as a few diners have noted, the battering was extra heavy--and not crisp at all because all this place does to add flavor is to bathe the fried chicken in sauce, making it all soggy, so what's the point? Also, other than the wings and drumsticks, there are no thighs or breast pieces per se, just fried chunks. read more

I frequent CM Chicken because of the quality. BUT, in my most recent order, the onion rings were disappointing - they were the cheap, chopped-up and pressed kind, not the REAL, whole kind that CM is famous for. Please CM, don't do this - I stopped patronizing a korean chicken restaurant that is closer to my home because of this very thing. QUALITY MATTERS to customers, don't get cheap or you'll lose patrons. Was a 5-star rating, now a 3 - I'll come back and change it back to 5 when this issue is corrected. Thank you. read more
