They asked if we'd come back.. and we can now for sure say YES! We ordered the grand slam combo to share between the two of us. Everything was fresh and delicious. It was all cooked with love and to perfection. I have got to admit that the pork was tastier than the chicken katsu but they were both good. The curry sauce was to die for. The interior was super vibrant and inviting! Would love to have time to sit and eat there.

Fun facts about Go! Go! Curry! from their website: -5 is pronounced as "Go" in Japanese -GGC is named after baseball legend Hideki Matsui's jersey number of 55 -Their curry is made using 55 process, 5 hours to stew and 55 hours to mature -Everything is in increments of 5- prices, hours open (10:55- 5:55), specialties on days that end in 5 Fiancé first had GGC when he lived in New York- and has been craving it ever since. On our last day in New York/New Jersey, we stopped by for lunch. Fiancé had the pork katsu and I had the chicken katsu. Initially I didn't think I'd be full off of the portion- but I overestimated myself- it was definitely the right amount for lunch! The katsu was thin and crispy and the curry was thick and a good compliment. I wish they would expand to the west coast- we want some Go! Go! Curry too!

1st time I tried Go Go Curry was in NYC near Port Authority Bus Terminal. Fell in love. I would buy them and bring them home, so I never had it fresh in store. Found a location in Newark NJ! Never would have thought to find this in Newark LOL. Fortunately, we did find them as I love Curry Katsu! The food was freshly made, and it was as good as I remembered it. The pork were nice and crispy outside and tender inside. The Curry was good. The Home Run comes with a Shrimp and Sausage. The shrimp was ok, I've never been a fan of Shrimp Tempura... I loved the sausage, though! Miso soup was good, not to salty. I just hate the chairs... horrible for back problems, oh well. At least you don't have to sit long LOL Will definitely be back!

Small storefront on the outside, but plenty spacious inside. Nice modern decor (seating). I was the only customer at the time. They have one guy working the counter. They had lots of mobile orders for pick up though so they are clearly getting orders from folks. This was my first time at Go Go Curry and first time eating Japanese curry. I've been wanting to try this chain for a long time for the delicious looking katsu curry. I order the chicken katsu in a medium and spent $13.55 after tax. My only regret is not ordering either a larger portion or a second portion. The chicken was as delicious as I thought it would be. The curry had a hint of spice but was more flavorful than spicy and that's perfect for me. I really can't handle spice anymore and so this was gentle on my stomach. I also really enjoyed the included cabbage in the plate. Now that I've tried them, I'm planning to order again. Maybe this time I'll try it for delivery and update my review accordingly. I will also remember to post a photo of my delicious food!

Wow, this hit the spot after a Saturday afternoon game, or should I say.. Devils win!! I remember first visiting go go curry back when I was a teenager and this right here brought me back. Absolutely delicious, super crispy katsu with the right amount of portions to fill the plate. Also had a chance to try the gyu don which is thinly sliced marinated beef over rice. really good, had a bit of sweetness to it which is expected. I really enjoyed this dish as well. This is a six min drive from Pru center and there was street parking available in front.

Chicken Katsu Curry - thicker sauce, mild flavor

Still in my quest for a good Japanese Curry and this one was another good fix. Fast Food vibes with very basic packaging. The curry was on the thicker and darker color, almost resembling a Katsu sauce. The flavor was mild to me, but pleasant enough. Chicken cutlet was sliced thinner and a tad dry. I loved the texture of their thinly sliced cabbage, and the kurubota sausage was very good. I'll order an extra of those next time. They were generous with their fukujinzuke which I was glad for, because these dainty bright red pickled radish just went very well in a Japanese curry. A few chopstickful worked wonders! I didn't get to see the inside since my husband just picked up our order while I waited in the car with our furry pet. And in the car, we enjoyed Go Go Curry. They didn't seem busy so the service was fast.

Finally was able to stop in here before NJ Devils hockey game at the Prudential Center, and I'm glad I did! They seem to have recently extended their hours Friday to Sunday, making it much easier to go before a 7pm hockey game. This was my first time trying Japanese curry, and it's definitely different from Indian and Thai curry. It's pork-based, thicker, and with a bit more of a rich gravy type of flavor to it. The Home Run Curry Combo with chicken katsu was awesome! The chicken was fried to order and not at all greasy. It came out piping hot, as did everything else. Biting into the chicken with some rice covered in the curry sauce was simply delicious. I have to say though, the sausage was incredible! And I definitely enjoyed the shrimp tempura as well, with its small dollop of a mayo sauce. The egg and cabbage help cut the richness of the curry. The shrimp gyoza were fresh and lighter than expected, and I have to say that miso soup might be the best I've ever had. I will 100% be back! Though I do hope they re-open their restroom to the public because I had to run out of there when nature came calling.

I recently tried the signature pork katsu curry for takeout lunch and was thoroughly disappointed. I walked in, placed an order, and waited less than 10 minutes for my order to be ready -- normally, less waiting would be a good thing, but in this case, I felt like it was a testament to how pre-prepared the food was. The pork katsu was tough and actually made my jaw hurt from chewing on the hard meat pieces. (A knife was not included as a part of the takeout utensils so it made the eating all the more difficult.) The rice was also really packed in by being pressed down on the container and covered with curry. The flavor of the curry was good, but the rice didn't taste as fresh, probably because of how it was packed -- imagine a thin layer of rice that has been compacted into the container. The best part was the shredded cabbage that was quite fresh, but sadly only was a small amount. The food was okay, but considering the amount of the food for the price and how far I had to walk to reach the location, I doubt that I will be making another trip in the future.

Japanese curry and katsu are among my favorite foods so I was super thrilled to come across a curry restaurant in Newark. Being from the west coast, I had never heard of Go! Go! Curry! before, but I was excited to try them out and get my curry craving satisfied. My boyfriend and I stopped in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The shop is in downtown Newark, but it is on a side street where not much is going on. For the duration of our short meal, we were the only ones there aside from the staff. Maybe it was due to the lack of people, but the place was very clean. The curry was delicious. My boyfriend got the katsu curry. I got the home run combo, which came with katsu, shrimp tempura, sausage, and a hard-boiled egg. The food was ready quickly, and it was served in to-go containers. I prefer my katsu to be a little thicker, but I cannot complain since this was an affordable and filling meal. If you like Japanese curry, Go! Go! Curry! is a good spot for a quick and convenient meal. Otherwise, stay clear away, because there is almost nothing else on the menu. Too bad I do not live close to Newark, because I would frequent Go! Go! Curry! all the time. Maybe I should pick up a Go Go pack, which is the to-go curry pouch, or a bottle of tonkatsu sauce next time so that I can make my own at home.

I'm a fan of the Go! Go! Curry location in Newark. Highly recommended! Before Covid, I LOVED going to the 38th St. location in Manhattan for my Japanese comfort food fix. So I was super excited months ago when I saw that Go! Go! Curry planned to open in Newark - let alone Jersey in general. So when they had their soft opening last year, I made sure to check it out and have been ordering takeout ever since. The Homerun never disappoints and is definitely worth it. For my vegetarian partner, I'll order the vegetarian curry sauce (an extra cost - $1.95 - but worth it - I've sampled and it's just as flavorful as the non-veggie one). He'll either go with the tofu or vegetable tempura for his curry. FYI - If you using the Yelp app to order, for the vegetarian curry option, you need to choose the make-your-own-curry selection where you add items. MYOC is also just a fun option to customize your order and try out all the different fixings. Again, fan and highly recommended. Go check it out for yourself.

I'm picky when it comes to asian food esp franchise food. I have to say that the pork katsu rice bowl was pretty good. The tempura was crunchy. I brought my own bento box bec I was going to eat it later that evening. They were nice enough to pack it in my glass bento box . After reheating it, I was surprised that it was pretty good. I even saved some for the next day. The pork katsu was still tender and yummy. The sauce for soaked in to the rice and it was delicious and not too salty. I'd definitely stop by this place again and highly recommend go go curry!

Home Run Curry with Pork Katsu!

The first Go! Go! Curry location in NJ! It finally opened and it is just as good as the NYC locations!! I was able to come by to their downtown Newark location during their soft opening and had to get my usual order, the Home Run Curry with Pork. It comes with a pork katsu, tempura shrimp, sausage, and egg with rice & cabbage! The taste of the katsu and tempura shrimp were very satisfying as they were cooked perfectly. I live relatively close to this location and it is definitely a treat to have it in NJ now. So convenient to come here than go all the way to NYC! They seem to have the complete menu too, similar to the New York locations with side dishes such as gyoza, other katsu/tempura offerings, and side dishes. There is even a vegetarian curry option too! Their storefront and interior is so nice too, it may be due to it just opening, but they have a lot of signage and decals on the walls inside. Once indoor dining gets a bit safer from COVID-19, I can definitely see this place buzzing with people! The owners are super nice and I am definitely looking forward to returning!

The food came in less than 20 mins and it was already cold. Not even a little warm. It probably would have tasty better if it wasn't cold.

Had the katsu curry. Decent portion size but pricey. Simple metal tables and chairs so it's a good place for a quick bite.

It's not especially big, so you may have a bit of a wait if you frequent right at lunch or in the evening but whatever amount of time you have to wait it will be well worth it. Service is top tier but you come for the food. They have a varied menu with a lot of options so if you're bringing a buddy that isn't up for Katsu, they'll have plenty to choose from. The Katsu is the star and I think what sets this place apart is that they offer Berkshire pork katsu as an option. Arguably some of the best pork, it's great to have the option if you're looking to heighten the experience. I love their pork katsu and go nuts over the chicken katsu curry. It's super crispy, slightly greasy but never off-putting. And it's served with the most delicate and delicious cabbage slaw. I could eat a mountain of this it's so good. Highly recommended.

This place is a bit hard to spot, but it's on the same side of the street as the sorta famous (50…read moreyears +) Phil's Stationery. Katsu-Hama is about two doors to the Left of Phil's, and has minimal, very discreet signage. I got some tonkatsu...I forget the exact type, but it was essentially the most fatty of the tonkatsu offered. It came with cabbage (with a sesame ginger type dressing), daikon radish (with some type of sauce on top), and the standard sauce for the tonkatsu, along with some crushed sesame seed and hot mustard. I'd have to say...the tonkatsu was quite good....not quite as sublime as my favorite tonkatsu place in Tokyo...but still, very, very good. The dish also came with a bowl of miso soup (good, and not overly salty) and a bowl of white rice, which I considered the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice seemed a bit dried out...not moist.... All in all, an excellent meal. I'd definitely come back.
