Qsina 8 in Union, NJ, is an acclaimed Filipino-Asian fusion restaurant. Diners and costumers like me praise the authentic homestyle dishes, standout flavors, generous portions, and exceptionally very friendly and warm service, though some of my companions note a plain ambiance and higher price points ( for me their pleasing food quality and taste outweighs the price ). The Chicken Sisig, Palabok, pork BBQ and sizzling Biko with ice cream are a must-try from the food menu. The appetizers, like the piping hot vegetable lumpia and their humongous portion of Halo-halo as dessert are highly recommended by me and other reviewers. When we dined at this place, the whole staff gave me a feeling as if I was eating at an aunt's house, with the owner and staff providing very welcoming, family-style care. I have been living in NY for more than 30 years, have already eaten in so many low and high-end Filipino restaurants, in terms of food quality and taste, I may say this by far is the best that I have experienced. If given the chance to be in New Jersey again, I will definitely, 100% be back to this place for their delicious and flavorful food. Some of my companions point out that the seating area is relatively small, which can lead to limited availability during peak times, and a few note the interior decor is fairly plain but it did not matter to me because the food that I ordered/tried were great and amazing (properly spiced, cooked very well and soooooooo delicious!! ). Food portions are generous, presentation was appetizing and excellent, staff service was attentive and great ( I noticed that our water glasses were always filled up which is a service very consistent in so many high-priced restaurants that I have been ). Table setting is good, food utensils and plates were very clean ( yes, I checked it! ). I have given this place a few tries they were much better the first time around but this time around I decided unfortunately it's not for me . Service wasn't that great and we were the only customers there at the time then other guest staggered in . I'm all for restaurants thriving and always wish them luck but holy cow prices are crazy average appetizers are $16.50 or more and entree dishes are $25 or more for serving sizes and flavors are really lacking in a lot of dishes . Lechon was cut thinner not the usual big chunks and the oil tasted old and was greasy . Sinigang with the Baboy was very underwhelming the Baboy wasn't boiled down enough . The sisig has too much of a soy sauce taste and way too much mayo on top . The chicharron bulaklak was okay could have used a bit more seasoning and seemed to be a popular item that day . The BBQ stick was decent but not for $18 . Being Filipino myself I know everyone has their own way of making certain dishes so people may like it but in my opinion I've had better at a few other spots . Wishing them all the best . read more

As we were craving for a Filipino cuisine after our cherry blossoms stroll at Branch Brook, we ended up at this place with the help of Yelp search engine. It was about 25 minutes away from where we were but the great experience here made our drive worth. The place is very homey with a wonderful staff. Service is impeccable. The owners are very friendly and has great customer relations skills. The foods are excellent. We had the pleasure of trying their bangus sisig, pork bbq and caldereta. The tastes exceeded our expectations. We learned that their chef hailed from Luzon so the degree of cooking style satisfied our taste buds. The calamansi drink I had was fabulous. Honestly, the best I had so far. Our halo/halo dessert was heavenly. Satisfied our sweet tooth. The serving size is in huge portion. Each order is shareable by around 2-3 people. Pricing is higher in comparison to other place but proportioned to the serving size. I have one star less for my review for two reasons- 1.The check includes a service charge that confused us if a gratuity should be given or not. We need to Google first for right information. We ended up adding gratuity for their hospitality . 2. Looking for parking spot is challenging. We ended up downloading the town's parking mobile app to get parked closer. For entrees we got pork sisig which was outstanding and a Palabok special which was yummy. We got the sizzling Biko for dessert which was also good. Excellent! Like stepping into your aunt/grandma's kitchen. Situated in the corner of the main road street and lot parking. Staff is friendly and warm, seems like a reservation heavy establishment but we were able to snag a table for 4 upon opening. Shortly after arrival the rest of the tables of 4 and even 10 filled up quickly. The dishes are huge and we left with plenty of leftovers. Happy bellies with meals made from the heart. Spring rolls 5/5 what a huge plate! Crispy and delicious. Bulalo soup 5/5 really hit the spot. Piping hot and could feed all 4 of us as a side or 2 people as a dish. Beef noodle soup (5/5) (had a bit of sweetness in case folks aren't into that) it was incredible tasty, ample meat and veggies and packed with flavor. My girls shared this and still had leftovers. We came in to try Filipino food for the first time. Food was very flavorful and delicious. The place is small and is pretty popular. Service wasn't too bad. It felt like a mom/pop business, very homey and seems like the customers were repeats. They knew how the system works. Only thing you need to be aware of is the hours of operations varies. This was our second attempt to eat here. The first time, they closed midday (4:30) for break and weren't opening again until 6 pm. This happened the second time, luckily, we came at 6. We also overheard the server informing another guest that their kitchen closes at 7:30 pm. Not sure what else they are serving until 9/9:30 pm as stated from the hours of business. read more

Amazing service and food! I've been here about 2-3 times now and the food is always top notch. Be careful of the lumpia, it comes out extremely hot, fresh, and delicious! I'd give it a few minutes unless you want to burn your tongue. I love the pork sisig ( could be a tiny bit more crunchy). I wonder what the white sauce on top is- i don't think i've seen any other sisig like that. For those who haven't had sisig before, it comes out sizzling with an egg inside and bits of pork + pork skin. I like to mix the egg while it's still cooking. This dish came with jasmine rice. We visited them on the way back home and glad we were able to. Parking can be tricky and may need a bit of luck to get someplace close. We got one 1 block away on a side street. The restaurant is a corner spot. Nice building, a lot of eating seating. The owner greeted us and took us to our seats. Nice and friendly, like an auntie welcoming us to her home. We ordered tortang talong, sisig, lumpia and lechon kawali. Calamansi juice and water. Tortang talog was mostly egg, not much eggplant. Lechon and sisg were also both good. Lumpia, was just ok. This was our first time visiting this place, and I'm really glad we came. The place is clean, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. There is street parking available, and since we went on a Wednesday afternoon, we had no trouble finding a spot. We ordered the chicha pollo, chicken spring rolls, chicken sisig, and tortang talong. I really liked the chicha pollo because it was crispy and not oily or greasy. The chicken sisig was my favorite because it was full of flavor, well-seasoned, not soggy, and had plenty of meat. I rarely come to NJ, but if I'm craving Filipino food, this is the spot to go to. I love the variety they have here and the fact that the food is not overly greasy or heavy. My favorite is their crispy pata, sinigang and Leche flan. I could eat the whole tray of their Leche flan! It's so creamy and thick without being too sweet. The place is tiny, so it can get crowded. Hands down, MY FAV FILIPINO RESTAURANT IN NJ!!! It's so good that I willingly drive 40 minutes to Union City to eat here, even though I live in an area with a lot of Filipino restaurants nearby. What I love most about Qsina 8 is that the food here is really high-quality - the serving sizes are really big, the ingredients are really fresh, there is attention to presentation and aesthetics, and everything is cooked with so much care and love just like how my Filipino grandma would make it. Sadly it's so hard to find these qualities in a Filipino restaurant nowadays- a lot of the Filipino places near me focus too much on quantity at the expense of quality so the food has become so commercial and lacks that homemade, cozy quality that makes Filipino food so good. But thankfully I can get all that I wish for in Filipino food here at Qsina 8!   I've been here a couple of times and tried a lot of things from here and honestly? I have yet to find a dish here that I did not like. But my special mentions will have to be the bangus sisig (THE BEST!), the kare-kare, and the sinigang. And the DESSERT? TO DIE FOR. Honestly, I can never choose between the halo halo, the ube turon, or the sizzling biko that more often than not, I end up ordering them during every meal lol   Lastly one of the things I love most about this place is the hospitality. Every time I eat here I feel transported back to the Philippines where people are so welcoming and always have a smile on their face. The staff here are always so friendly, strike up conversation, and never rush you through your meal no matter how busy they are. I visited around 7 PM on a weekday, and the experience was very different from my first visit. Ruby (not Ruth, as I mistakenly thought before) wasn't there this time. On my prior visit, Ruby's service was warm, welcoming, and excellent, it felt like home, and that was the main reason I made the 45-minute drive to come back. This time, service was handled by Cecille (introduced as one of the owners). Unfortunately, the hospitality felt flat. It seemed like the staff, including the male person with glasses who took our order, were unsure and ready to wrap up for the day. The warmth and attentiveness I experienced before just wasn't there. Food-wise, I tried several dishes I hadn't ordered previously: kare-kare, laing, bulalo steak, pares, and lechon kawali. While everything tasted good, nothing stood out compared to similar restaurants in Bergen County. Ultimately, while the food is ok, the service experience wasn't "go-backable" for me, especially for a 45-minute drive. My rating is now 3 stars, based largely on the lack of consistency in service. read more

Popped into Qsina 8 for an early breakfast, and they didn't disappoint. They had a wide variety of silogs dishes (refers to a category of Filipino breakfast dishes combining sinangag (garlic fried rice) and itlog (egg) served with a variety of savory, typically fried meat dishes), which we devoured. The meal also came with unlimited coffee and hot chocolate. But what made the experience over the top was speaking to the restaurant's owner Ruby; by the end of the meal, I felt like she was my long lost aunt. The dishes you suggested were excellent as you might have noticed from the 4 empty plates! The dishes Trisha recommended were the Bangus sisig with milkfish (my wife and I have had this before) and Bangus sisig with tofu (first time) along with the Kare Kare with Oxtail (2nd time) and the Laksa (pork with noodles, 1st time). We brought friends of ours here who enjoy good (different?) food and they let my wife and I know we "hit it out of the park" bringing them here. I kinda want to go back to try some of the other dishes, but these 4 (even the tofu) were just excellent. This is a BYO, but they also have a QR code you can scan to have wine/beer etc delivered from a local liquor store. You just have to try it! read more

This is our first time visiting this place. The servers are awesome. The ladies are very welcoming. The decorations are plain. It does not make you feel like you're in a Filipino restaurant. However, the Filipino music is very soothing. The food is amazing. The laeng is excellent with the fried bangus. And the palabok is just incredible. Excellent presentation. A very nice and cozy spot. Its ambiance is not your typical Filipino Turo-Turo that's over decorated with Pinoy memorabilia. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was a good thing that we called ahead for reservations. They can get really busy and walk-ins had to wait for a table for quite a while. The owner, who also waits on tables, is a cancer survivor. So, extra props to her for keeping up the good fight. When it comes to the food, all dishes were beyond expectations. They made sure that their dishes stood out from your typical Filipino Take Out. The flavors were spot on. One dish, however, took longer than the rest to come out. It was the "Pares", which is beef in a lightly sweet sauce, paired with garlic fried rice. But, it was well worth it. I felt I was back at Rudy's Mami House along North Ave. in Quezon City, Philippines. (I miss that joint.) I came here for a birthday dinner with friends after having seen a video online. Upon entrance we were told we could sit anywhere that did not state reservation so we sat right in the middle. Our waitress who I believe may be the owner warned us to order sooner than later as a party of 15 was coming and it could cause a delay in our food arriving if we wait to order. She was very helpful about some suggestions she made for food as far as desserts. She had a very friendly demeanor and was very funny. Me and my girlfriends all ordered at the same time however one of my friends received her order before all of us which was okay until she was already done with her meal and we were Still waiting on ours. She let me try her bistek and it was tasty I compared it to Peruvian lomo. It was not over salty and well prepared . I finally got my pork sisig after she was done with her meal and it was sizzling literally! Very yummy and feeling, some spiciness but not overwhelming. I was able to take left overs because if I had ate it all I would've been way to full for deserts. I had originally ordered the taro drink however I found too creamy still tasty just too creamy and thick. The Thai milk tea was better in my opinion. The ambiance was pretty relaxed. Very friendly people! Both dishes tasted amazing. Kare - Kare has peanut sauce that reminds me a bit like the chinese peanut noodles. It also comes with a side of sauce . It tastes a bit fishy salty which helps with the possible overwhelming peanut flavor. I love the fact that it came with some veggies. The noodle (Lomi) reminds of lo mein. Qsina 8--Where do I even begin? I was visiting a nearby coffee shop when I saw the Filipino flag outside of the restaurant and was immediately intrigued (as a Filipina lol). Upon arrival, I was welcomed by sweet employees who reserved a table for us after calling thirty minutes before to see if there was space for us. The space is cozy, but sophisticated and spotless. When the food came out we were wowed by the dazzling presentation and immaculate flavor. This place offers the perfect combination of comforting Filipino cuisine showcased in an elevated way. The sisig was the star of the show, but the palabok and kare kare were also to die for! Every dish felt like a hug from a Tita. We also ordered the ube turon dessert which was the perfect amount to share with a group. The portions are plentiful as well with enough to take home as well. But perhaps most memorable of all was the service, which was beyond warm and inviting. Owner Trisha made us feel like family. I came with my parents and boyfriend and we all talked for a while with her after we finished our meals, the conversation natural and inviting. The best part of this restaurant along with its new inside and amazing staff is their "made to order" food. They don't play around when assuring that the food you've ordered is hot and ready once it arrives at your table. I've only tried one filipino food place in the east coast and it was at the reading terminal market in Philly, PA. That place does not compare. If you've made filipino food as well you understand it can be difficult creating some of the dishes and it seems the chefs have it down to where its made quickly and delicious. My favorite were the kare-kare w/ bagnet, bangus, sitaw, and the bangus sisig. Order a couple of the dishes and share family style, portions are large enough and very filling. Definitely will be coming back for more next visit to the east coast! The restaurant is fairly new so although there is some lack of decoration on the wall, the attitudes of the staff sure do make the place much more enjoyable. It's pretty big inside with a maximum capacity of 50 people. Our party size was 12 and were accommodated very easily.  Second to the food was the service, met by the smiling face of the owner we were greeted so nicely and welcoming. We were brought to our seat and were served by the owners husband.
