Solid Thai food in the adorable town of Maplewood, NJ. Food is very fresh, well prepared and delicious. Service is also extremely attentive and polite. Atmosphere is also warm, clean and welcoming. I had my favorite dish, Red Curry Chicken which was loaded with crisp vegetables and plenty of quality cuts of meat. My wife had a dish with shrimp which she commented was quite sweet due to having pineapple mixed in. Glad we stopped by. Looking forward to visiting again soon. read more

It's hard to give this spot a two star given its proximity and hard-working staff. But I have to be honest about the food- it just simply was not good. I went with the Thai Tofu salad and Tamarind salmon dishes. The Thai salad was oversaturated with peanut sauce and the lettuce was wilted. Although it had a decent taste, the ingredients just did not seem to mix well. The Tamarind salmon meanwhile came with plenty of good salmon but the vegetables accompanying it were bizarre, including sliced pineapple and celery. The tamarind sauce was good but not special to makeup for the vegetables and overall dish. I'd like to try this restaurant in-person one day and see if the food is any different. I've never reviewed this place before and I'm not one to usually only review when I have something negative to say. I've been eating here for about 10 years and always thought the food was pretty damn good. However, today's meal was unfortunately pretty damn bad. I've made better Thai curry at home from a can of paste (they're actually really good!) and I made a bangin Japanese beef curry this week, but I digress. The curry sauce was like soup and didn't have much of a flavor. I tried to get a picture that shows it dripping off my fork like water. The roti canai was also pretty flavorless and not flaky and layered at all and the curry that came with it was just an extremely watered down peanut sauce I think, definitely not the delicious curry that it should come with. Hope this was just an off day. This was a takeout experience but when I've eaten there it's always pretty quiet, perhaps too quiet if business is slipping. Service has always been very attentive and it's dimly lit in a way that I enjoy, not dark but peaceful. I'm also adding photos of a previous good meal I had here. Get it back together, WG. read more

Strangest Pad Thai I have ever had. Orange. No flavor, almost no vegetables. Pad Thai with tofu was listed at $15 on their website. With beef, $17. We were charged $21 each -- shame on Grubhub? A very small helping of roti? $9. High profit item! At least the little container of sauce supplied with it had some flavor. read more

Ok......Wild Ginger....was....W-O-W! Discovered it, as we were strolling through Maplewood's Marketspace Vendor Event. The restaurant is nicely decorated and we asked to be seated outside, which was perfect, with today's weather. The service was magnificent, appreciated, and commendable. My beverage selection, Thai Iced Tea, was refreshing and served in a cool glass. Our entrees were oh, so good: Chicken Pad Thai and Papaya Salad. I also ordered the Thai Fried Rice (spicy fried brown rice, egg, onions, basil, peppers, and seasonal vegetables). This Thai Fried Rice is one of the best I've ever tasted. The spiciness of the dish was delectable and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. I will, most definitely, place Wild Ginger on my "best" list and will gladly return. read more

I usually get take out here. Haven't had an issue yet. They (employees) are pleasant and efficient. Food is always consistent for me. I love getting the veggie Lo Mein spicy. Service is fast and pretty good so is the food. I ordered their veggie spring rolls which were perfect. They were just right, their crispy beef was good too however a little tweaking is needed (if you check out Marion Grasby's crispy beef recipe on YouTube and try that it'll take it up a notch). The crispy beef has to be somewhat spicy, and a bit more on the dry side, crispy on the edges and slightly chewy in the center and not overly sweet just a hint of sweetness and somewhat spicy. Even though I liked it, it was more on the sweet side and could be less sweet to bring out the actual flavor. Their rice pudding was excellent - something different and I enjoyed the green tea. Five stars for the food. 4.5 for service. Start with the food. By far the best Thai food I've ever had. And will absolutely be returning back for more. Ordered an appetizer to split. Had dumplings and they were the star of the show. The peanut sauce was fantastic. Almost ordered a second dish. Down fall, they didn't serve it with side plates so you were stuck bobbing over one plate in the center. Think the appetizers should be served with side dishes, especially if it's being split. My boyfriend had Pad Thai and I had Pad See Ew. Both fantastic. Very fresh and very full of flavor. The chicken in my dish was excellent. Better than any places I've gotten it from. The entire plates were cleared. That speaks for how good it all was. Downside to this, they served one plate at the time and the other person had to wait for a few minutes. Was craving Thai food for my birthday so we decided to try Wild Ginger for the first time despite it being more expensive. Never again. Let's just say I'm happy I didn't get food poisoning. They charged us the same amount for the papaya salad without the chicken as with which was silly and it was horrible. One bite and we put it back in its container. It was bland, no taste and tasted like it had been sitting out on the countertop for a while. The green curry with tofu smelled a little funny and there was hardly any curry (as you can see) most of it was broccoli and string beans. The tofu had probably gone bad because it smelled funny. The basil with chicken was bland and no taste. All in all, would not recommend. Save your money. read more

If there is one thing typically associated with Thai cuisine it is flavor. Not here.....I ordered the vegetarian Penang ... carrots, broccoli, mushroom, ginger, watercress. The dish was absolutely flavorless....no more flavor than if you'd tossed together some Birdseye and put them straight to the plate after a quick steam. I will say the two appetizers my wife and I shared were good, especially the chicken satay, which was perfectly cooked and accompanied by a rich and delicious peanut sauce. The service was friendly and efficient...a little too efficient for my taste. The room is very small, and the sense that they want a quick turn of the table is palpable. I ordered Pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp. First of all, I want to advice to not go to this place if you are a real foodie. The food was not good at all. First, both of the dishes we ordered were overly seasoned. Secondly, they do not cook the pineapple fried rice on the condiments, instead, they cook the rice on its own (white rice) then they pour a TON of turmeric that I can literally pass my finger to pick up the powder. The chicken came in thin strips, I say, wtf is that? My partner ordered the Drunken noodles and when we came home that sh*t literally sent her to the bathroom. Lastly, the decoration inside was very morbid because it's all wood paneling that makes you feel you are in a cascade. There was no decoration at all. Imagine a chinese fast food place trying to sell themselves as an authentic thai restaurant and you get Wild Ginger. The lunch special doesn't even offer thai classics such as Pad Thai or Pad see ew..confusing.. We ordered pad thai with chicken off the regular menu and spicy basil rice which was pretty decent - wouldn't say any better than the joint I get my ordinary fast food chinese from. Pad thai was pretty bland and sloppy. The noodles were bloated (not chewy) and the pad thai lacked any depth or sweetness you normally look forward to. I gave two stars instead of one because the service was prompt and attentive. Food doesn't merit a second visit. read more

The food is so delicious and flavorful. The only thing I've ever tried here that I didn't like was the pineapple fried rice, which is something I usually enjoy, but somehow it didn't hit the mark at Wild Ginger. But the house special soup is one of my favorite comfort foods ever-- definitely try that, also the Singapore rice noodles are incredible and so is the red curry (I always get it with chicken). We had our company's lunch catered from here. About 30 people. They labeled everything and they were so accommodating. They even called us the day of to let us know that the road was closed off and where to park to pick it up. They brought out the food to our car even though it was further away. Our total order was over $50, we have both vowed to never order there again. I called to complain and there was no offer to make good on their bad service. Good authentic Thai food. Roti canai was delicious though I've never had it served with red curry sauce, it's usually massaman curry. Thai iced tea was good not great, I enjoy a nice creamy one, this was much more of a strong brewed tea then the combination of tea and sweet cream I was hoping for. We had chicken lettuce wraps, they were good. Charred flavor could've used a plum sauce to soften it. Overall good. Pineapple shrimp fried rice and Thai basil fried rice. They did NOT skimp on the shrimp or chicken like most places. The rices were full of meat/ shrimp in every bite. Well worth the $11 for chicken and $13 for shrimp. 2 apps, 2 rice, 3 teas $49 or 3 people, Not bad compared to many places in NJ. I would go again to try to find a wow factor meal that I have a feeling they have on the menu. read more

I really really wanted to love my meal! I love Thai food and our favorite place in Short Hills closed so I thought I would give it Wild Ginger a shot again. Our server was lovely I think a young high school student. The roti bread is fabulous and I love the sauce, even thought it's expensive for how little they serve. The bummer is that they serve the worst Pad Thai I've ever had! I couldn't even finish the chicken in it, it tasted nothing like peanuts or like traditional pad Thai. I make it better! We also had the Tom Yum soup, it was a decent soup but tasted nothing like the normal Tom Yum soups we are used to. I've had their stirfries before and they were decent, but don't go there for the pad Thai... and have very low expectations. read more

Maplewood is a really cute little town in north central New Jersey. The town is a little upscale, and they have lots of cute restaurants with a variety of food types. We chose Thai. Good thing too - this place was very good. The lunch menu is extremely limited, but you can order off of the dinner menu if you want. We wanted to keep the lunch relatively low cost, so we stuck with the lunch specials. I had red curry and my colleague had pad thai. The food was served with either soup or an egg roll, and either white or brown rice. I had the egg roll which was about what I expected. My colleague had the Tom Yom Soup which he said was very good. The curry was good, but what really got me was the brown rice. It was a rich chocolate brown so I initially thought they brought me some kind of fried rice. But - no it was really a fine grade of brown rice - nutty and delicious. This was a fine choice for lunch. read more

Love this little restaurant in the heart of Maplewood. Service is just ok, usually just one waitress that serves all tables. Food is great every time we go in for a bite. The all the curries are amazing and the Penag burry is a must have dish. The food comes out pretty fast waiting only about 5-10 min. When we walked in, the place has a weird smell. Walking past it, the decor was great and the ambiance was fine. When I ordered, the food came out way too fast for it to be anything close to fresh! My husband got 2 wine bottles so we could drink with our dinner, and the server took the bag with the seperator. She then proceeded to hover constantly like she wanted to rush us to leave, which was very unnerving and annoying, it took away any good experience we would have had. We asked for chilli sauce, and she got us an assorted tray, one container was almost empty! When we were ready to leave we asked her fro a bag for the wine, she gave us one bag, we had to ask her for another so the bottles don't hit each other and she looked annoyed, YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE THROWN OUR BAG AWAY IN THE FIRST PLACE! The Massaman chicken was so bland that even after adding hot peppers and peanuts, it was still bland and tasteless. The Thai salad was saturated in something that was barely recognizable as peanut dressing. The amount of it was good to share, but unfortunately it went into the trash, a rare event for me.
