I miss this place since I moved out of the area back in 2021. Not the type of place to take a date and eat in but for the purpose of delicious take out meals, it's a winner in my opinion. Staff is nice. I think it's a young family that owns it. The guy could use a personality but he is a decent fellow. His wife I assume is warm and friendly and so is their kid who was working the register and taking the orders by the time I moved out. Can't go wrong with this place for take out. read more

I go here from time to time for dinner or lunch. The lunch specials are $6 and change and you get a pretty good portion. There are a number of entrees you can choose from and they're all pretty good so that you'll want to try a few different ones, but nothing wildly different from other chinese resturants. If you call ahead they're pretty good at having your food ready and if you get delivery they're pretty good with that too. The space in the resturant is pretty good, about 5 tables and seat 3 at each confortably. There is a nice selection of beverages also. The only problem I have here is you must spend at least $10 before you can use card to pay or else they charge you an extra fee. This wouldn't be a problem, but unless you're getting two or more entrees, you probably won't spend that much, so make sure to bring cash. read more

Overall food was mediocre. Chicken was a little bland and I found it too be too white. Sauce was barely a factor for the chicken and broccoli, it was all extremely bland. The shrimp fried rice was a little too hard. Alongside that, the boneless spare ribs were also a little too hard, so the experience was a little unsatisfactory! Utensils weren't provided for takeout, but that was a slight issue in comparison to the rest of the food. Placed an order for delivery, sweet & sour chicken. Once it gets here theres NO sweet & sour sauce. I call to see if they can drop it off and the rude women who answered the phone just hung up. So I wont order from them again. This isnt the first time something has been missing from the order. I understand things happen but not every order. Dude, when we first moved here from NYC where I was born and raised, I was seriously looking for 2 things to lock down - a pizzeria that can deliver a crispy slice and a Chinese fastfood spot that could do my fave comfort foods justice. We tried out a few different spots and yeah the tiny storefronts look similar and the menus and even the storenames do, too. BUT New Great Wall is my go-to on Grubhub when I want fried chicken wings and french fries that arrive hot and crispy, honey bbq spare rib tips over pork fried rice, and a hot and sour soup so full of tofu, mushrooms, and flavor that I savor each plastic spoonful! And to be honest, their sweet and sour sauce actually has some love in it - I can taste the pineapple among the usual flavors. And oh, I am a small girl with a big appetite and I can easily turn one dish into 2 meals, awesome value! Is this spot a legit Chinese restaurant if you want banquet level food? No, I don't think so, but I also have not tested those dishes. If you want a serious sit-down meal, you should check out a proper place. I hear great things about China Chalet and I have enjoyed visits to Cathay 22. BUT if what you want is some fast food to savor by the glow of Netflix, dude, holler at these guys through GrubHub -- so easy! read more

If you're looking for decent chinese fast food, this is the place. It's not unbelievably delicious. But it's good. A bit overpriced, but that's not surprising as it is in south orange. Keep in mind that there are small portions. Certain things on the menu are bland. I usually stick with certain things. But i don't go here often. I've had much better at other places. Delivery was super fast on a Saturday evening and my food was surprisingly palatable. I got shrimp moo shu because they didn't offer vegetable moo shu. The shrimp were small and well cooked--not like those big fat undercooked shrimp that sometimes are in Chinese food. They actually served enough wrappers for the amount of food, about 5 or 6. Food was fresh and delicious! I ordered shrimp with garlic sauce and shrimp rolls. The shrimp roll was delicious, not too greasy, with large whole pieces of shrimp. The garlic sauce was perfectly seasoned, but too salty, perfect consistency. Shrimp were fresh, veggies were fresh. A++ read more

New Great Wall is my favorite of the handful of Chinese restaurants in south orange area. You get exactly what you expect from a take-out place, with a fairly large menu, huge portions, cheap prices, and tasty, warm comfort food. It's not the most absolutely incredible food or most authentic Chinese that you'll ever eat, but that's not what's advertised with a joint like this. I frequently get sesame chicken or general Tso's chicken, my vegetarian roommate has said the veggie dumplings are great and the bean curd, while tasty, was a little more chewy than he's had at a couple other places. Overall a great spot, does exactly what you need it to, and delivery is a great bonus! read more

New Great Wall is a solid, no frills, takeout spot. Standard by-the-numbers menu with all the usual suspects. It's mostly Americanized Chinese stuff, but they do offer a "Hunan and Szechuan" section that attempts to hit the more authentic side of things. I have found their food to be prepared well with modest use of oil, portions plentiful and prices fair. Their noodle dishes, particularly the chow fun, are quite good. I've tried a handful of other things ranging from dumplings to soup to chicken, beef and pork dishes and everything has been reliably tasty. What's more, they're one of the few local spots that are available on Seamless, which is how I found them in the first place. Overall, not a mind blowing experience, but consistently solid and gets the job done. read more

I just went there after years of my family being loyal customers. I ordered the sesame tofu lunch special and they gave me pork fried rice. When I complained they said I had to specify I wanted veggie fried rice. I didn't think that I would have to specify that for a vegetarian dish. Even though I had not eaten most of the tofu all they gave me was veggie fried rice as a replacement. This is terrible customer service and I will not be returning. read more
