Pandang is one of my favorite spots in South Orange for sushi. The staff is always very friendly, welcoming, and attentive, which makes the experience even better every time I go. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, and my go-to order is always the spicy maki combo, definitely recommend trying it if you like spicy sushi rolls. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere, and they also have a small party room in the back area that's great for gatherings or celebrations. For the past 7 or 8 years, Pandang is still my favorite stop for sushi. The Shrek Roll and Godzilla Roll are my favorites!! The Vegetable Tom Yam Soup with flat rice noodles is also a delicious bowl of warmth and flavor (a little spciy kick, too). Their portions are generous and the food is always flavorful. This was my first time dining in, as I usually do takeout. I thought the service was pretty good, no complaints there. The ambiance is pretty casual and quiet. Their food is good but there's room for improvement in some aspects. Our spider roll was very good - I am always satisfied with their sushi. My partner had the spicy drunken noodles. I personally think they are too spicy but it's totally fine for people who are spice-tolerant. My partner did comment that the dish could overall use more flavor, especially the meat. I had the yaki udon, which I was not super happy with. They advertise mushrooms come with it, which my dish didn't have. The beef was completely bland - no flavor and not enjoyable at all. this place is absolutely delicious and the freshest fish I've found in the Millburn/Maplewood area, maybe even NJ. Everything was exquisitely cut and put together. My favorite was the white tuna and fresh scallops. The portions are generous. The salmon sashimi was also one of my favorites. each piece was scored and then flamed. it was so soft and fresh. The presentation was beautifully put together and my kids loved the boat. as always the mochi ice cream at the end was a big hit! Also the miso soup was chock full of seaweed and tofu. Green curry was spicy but a lot of filler veggies in pepper and onion. Needs a touch more flavor. I got food poisoning from their sushi. I do not think this restaurant is careful with their seafood, especially given the hot temperatures.

Apparently, when you have a peanut allergy and specifically request peanut-free pad thai, that means nothing to the restaurant. Horrible.

The basil fried rice was just the right amount of spicy. I got it with tofu and while tofu is usually pretty bland, this one was flavorful and I loved every bite. For the sushi rolls, if you order spicy mayo and eel sauce on the side, they charge extra for it. The spicy mayo was quite spicy actually and my friend downed almost 3 glasses of water with that. Ordered via DoorDash last night and got a big old pile of shit. My Pad Thai was a congealed clump of noodles with no egg (legit NONE), no seasoning, no veg, no onion. Served with a freaking lemon wedge and a few bean sprouts. Basically inedible. The sushi pizza app was served on a grilled tortilla flat rather than a scallion pancake. Originally from NY and moved here recently therefore based on the diversity NY has to offer I consider myself very familiar with Thai food. So much so that Im addicted to it. I researched Thai restaurants in South Orange and Pandang came up. I came here on a whim. The atmosphere was great, the servers friendly. I started with the Tom soup and that was impressive. I then ordered the Chicken Basil and although good, tasted like Chinese Chicken with mixed veggies. My husband had the crispy chicken smothered in sweet and sour sauce and that tasted like General Tso's. I was not at all impressed with this Thai place. What a disappointment. I noticed they have a Japanese menu. Maybe I'll try that next. I'll keep you all posted. Ps. The Thai salad is technically a Japanese Salad with Ginger dressing. So after going here a couple times I can say this is a solid thai and sushi spot. Both cuisines are very good here which is a pleasant treat. Its a nice place to go for lunch and the dinner entrees are nice too. This latest visit I got the drunken noodle with shrimp and a spicy crab meat roll. Both were great, the dish overall was plentiful packed with noodles, red and green peppers, onions and tomato chunks. The spicy crab roll great for the price and the right hint of spiciness. I've also had a chicken curry (forgot which one) for lunch a couple months ago which was nice too. The place itself is a nice size, table and booth seating. Theres TV if you're sitting in a good spot and music that adds to the mood here and is a good time with a small group or one on one. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now after hearing a lot about it. I was craving Thai food and didn't realize that this is mostly a Japanese place! So I decided to try some of both. I started with a salad with ginger dressing and that was good, light and refreshing. I also ordered a sushi roll with eel and avocado. It was very delicious and fresh! Then I had the drunken noodle dish and it was quite large. The flavor was great but I couldn't finish it so it made a good lunch the next day. I also tried some of the green curry and it was excellent! The service was very friendly and nice. I was surprised by how few people were there when I went. I online ordered from Pangdang and was sticker shocked from the get go. $80 with tax for 3 entrees, 2 appetizers, and 2 cheaper sushi rolls. Still, hungry I pressed on and ordered. I picked up no problems. The food was ready and hot. They're pick up system could use a small amount of instruction but not a big deal. Here's why the 2stars. The food was weak. Terrible. Or just plain mediocre. And therefore not even close to worth the price tag. The curry ordered was bland, with no heat and boiled to death vegetables. The pad Thai was in one big clump and difficult to separate and certainly didn't taste good. Once again bland and down right forgettable. Actually is was memorable as the most pathetic pad Thai I've ever had. I mean This is Thai Food! It's suppose to delight and awaken the pallet, not make you wish you had stayed home and just made a sandwich. The sushi rolls were un notable. And that's my point. If I'm going to be charge a decent amount of money make the food decent too. Next time it's a hectic day, I'll make a 25¢ packet of ramen. It'll taste better and certainly be worth it. read more

I found this place online and was encouraged by a friend to give it a try, so we had takeout for lunch. We ordered the drunken noodles with chicken, and the spicy basil with chicken from the lunch menu. Both dishes came with tom yam soup. The dishes and soup were delicious, except I thought the spicy basil chicken didn't have much chicken in it. I'll definitely ask for extra chicken if I order that dish again. I always get their drunken noodles- so flavorful and you can ask for non spicy if you don't like spicy food. I also get the crazy Mandy sushi roll and it is really delicious and filling!
