I spent $50 tonight on Chinese food that was so-so. The egg rolls were all breading and dry. My children and I love egg rolls and we were all disappointed. My daughter ordered the orange chicken and it was horrible!!!I I had the pepper steak and it was just ok. My son had the chicken and broccoli and he said his was good. This is the last time I will order from this place. I can't believe how bad the food was. I called to let the owner know and he didn't seem to care. To top if off the fortune cookies were stale and soft, not crunchy, and had a funny taste. What is going on with this place? Never again will I eat here! So I went to visit a friend and we decided to talk around Morris ave to find something to eat. On his recommendation we decided to go to Tomato Garden. The name through me for a loop, It sounds like it should be a pizzeria but it is Chinese food. We ordered take out and it only took a short while to get our food. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken and a side of the crab cheese. Or what I just assumed to be crab Rangoon. Over all the food was pretty good, I wasn't blown away by it, but it tasted as one would expect Chinese food to taste like. For the crab cheese, it tasted a little off, maybe I was just expecting Rangoon and it wasn't or maybe it tasted off. Either way the entire bag of them was finished so they weren't bad. I don't know if this would be my first choice coming back to the same street for dinner but If it was the only place open I wouldn't feel begrudgingly ordering from there. read more

Ordered our usual S19 triple delight with some appetizers for pick up. When we opened the main dish after finishing our soups and appetizers, it was chicken and broccoli. Called Tomato Garden to let them know of the mistake. They asked me to bring the food back to switch it for the correct dish. When asked about delivery, they said it would be about 40 mins but that they still wanted to chicken and broccoli back! We've been regular patrons for years. Would have expected Tomato Garden to tell us that they would be out right away with the correct dish rather than ask us go back or offer a credit towards our next order. I did ask about the latter and it was a non-starter. I'm disappointed in how Tomato Garden responded to this error. read more

The Tomato Garden a Chinese restaurant that is not that much of a dine in, but more of a take out. Several time i have gotten take out from their and i never truly had a bad experience with their food. The time it takes for them to cook your food is pretty fast and i personally thought my food was very hot every time i got it (good thing). The variety of food they have on their menu is good for a Chinese restaurant and they also have very fair prices. Overall Tomato Garden is great place to get food for your family or yourself if your a fan of Chinese food. read more

I had tried this place twice before with mediocre results, but out of hunger and convenience, I ordered dinner. I called beforehand and it was ready in less than 10 minutes. I went with the sesame chicken extra crispy. They did pretty well with the crispness compared to other local places, but the sesame sauce is no good. It looks exactly like the general tso's sauce, which my boyfriend had ordered previously. The flavor isn't too good and there were no sesame seeds coating the chicken. The first time I ordered, I had the Chow Mein (apparently Chow Mein is not the same on the East and West coasts), so I got this soupy thing with veggies and chicken and fried noodles and was not happy. Now I know West Coast Chow Mein = East Coast Lo MeIn. I do like their egg rolls as they are lighter than most other places. Prices are good, but does not make up for the quality. read more

Food was ok, not what I ordered but ok. The Kung Pao beef is 100% beef n broccoli. When we questioned it they where like, no peanuts in Kung Pao beef only in Kung Pao chicken. Wouldn't the difference between Kung Pao beef and Kung Pao chicken be the beef and the chicken? Sauce was a brown gravy with no spice at all. We ordered online and gave very specific instructions about how to find our place, but the guy clearly did not read it. He didn't seem very friendly. As for the food, we found it to be so-so. It was pretty bland. I thought that since they named the restaurant after tomatoes, it would be a good idea to try one of their dishes that had tomatoes in it. Decent take-away (they also deliver) and reasonably priced. General's Chicken is good as are the noodle dishes. We usually get chicken with eggplant which is OK albeit a bit greasy. They are on a busy street though and street parking is limited. My husband and I ordered a few times from Tomato Garden, and we've had good experiences so far. The dishes we ordered have been flavorful, and they give a good amount. Prices are reasonable. The wonton soup is pretty good, but the hot and sour soup is just ok. If you order a certain amount (though I don't remember how much), they give you a free 2 liter bottle of soda of your choice. Food is ok but their delivery person leaves a lot to be desired. Also, I only ever really order shrimp fried rice but there has been multiple times where the shrimp have not smelled fresh. I should also say that they used to deliver to my job but one day just decided not to anymore and gave 2 different answered when two people on staff called. I placed a large order for my office like I typical do. We order from this place on a regular basis since it is close to our office. They made a mistake by not readying the notes on the order. When I called to ask that they send the correct thing they told me they were too busy and they would call me back. After a half hour I called them back and was told that now I have to pay $11 if I want the meal that was already prepaid. I told them no that I order the exact same thing all the time without fail. They are now refusing the bring the food or reimburse me for the generous tip I provided to them and the food I paid for. Being that my favorite dish at any Chinese place is General Tso's, it's what I order, of course. For once the portion of chicken was much more than the rice. Some of our favorites are Scallion Pancakes, Sweet n Sour Chicken, General Tao's Chicken and the Eggdrop Wonton Soup is great especially on a cold day. Wow! I think this is my new favorite local pick-up spot for my chinese fix. Me and my family were craving chinese food so we ordered a chicken & broccoli and seafood delight for pick up since it is right down the road. What I like about this place is that the food tastes clean and not too oily or dirty, with the right amount of sauce portion to the meat and veggies. Also- I find that many chinese places are so so salty and load with sodium and MSG, but here at tomato garden i found it not so much and the food is so savory and delicious.
