Another great experience. Good food , great service and cozy ambiance! The perfect combo!

Dry cubano and stale plantains

So... where do I begin? I give this place 2 stars for the decor and the guava marmalade fried cheese, which was creative but ok. The Cuban sandwich was subpar...literally no flavor, lacked meat and even the bread was dry and flavorless as well. The side of fried plantains were not fresh at all...who gets that wrong??The place was all glitz but definitely fell way short of the authenticity of a Cuban cuisine. The staff were ok but they lacked realistic recommendations on their menu items. Also, the place is, in my opinion, too cramped for the vibe it's trying to give. Too many tables and chairs to comfortably move around in. Parking is Valet only. Overall, I'm certain that I won't return.

Had another memorable meal at Mambo. When you arrive, don't look anywhere else for parking. Just use their valet service, because the surrounding businesses have even made signs clearly stating, if you park here for Mambo, your car will be towed. Upon entering, you'll take in the high ceilings, the festive lighting, a complete Model-T Ford, and lots of happy staff members. Our Server, Valentina, was outstanding. If she wasn't pleasantly tending to us, she was part of the team, that constantly sang happy birthday wishes to celebrating customers. I started with my ever favorite Mamey Shake. It was served in a tall glass, with milk, and I enjoyed every drop. The other celebrated drinks were a traditional Margarita and a Piña Colada. Both were perfectly crafted and nicely presented. I ordered the Palomilla (Sirloin) Steak, medium, with Congri (dirty rice) and sweet plantains. The steak was juicy, a thin piece of happiness, and the plantains were.....well, just look at the photo. Each and every one was delicious. Mambo also completed their downstairs area, where they can sit other customers, have private functions, and it has a full bar.

Found this place while in town for a concert. It is on a very busy strip of town, with a difficult to navigate parking lot, but they do offer free valet parking (at least on the weekends) which was an unexpected bonus. Inside, the restaurant is lively and dimly lit, but there are lamps on the table to be able to see the menu. The food was good, and they have plenty of options on the menu. The service was a touch slow at times, I think because they do a lot of celebrations and the whole staff gets involved in singing and clapping for guests. Overall, it was a good meal, so I would go back.

It was a busy night, very crowded. We were able to drive up and get a seat at the bar. A bar side table opened up and they offered it to us. My tostones were dry and not flavorful, and a tad bit cold. This is usually my favorite appetizer here. The appetizer platter cost more with lechon. I feel like it could have had a tad bit more lechon on it. The seafood platter - the calamari look dry. So overall an ok experience. I'm hoping this was because it was a Saturday night.

What a great find! New Jersey is loaded with so many great Cuban restaurants especially in the Edgewater area so I was pleasantly surprised that we found this place while staying in the area. My gf found it for us while looking for a place to grab a drink and appetizer. We got there just in time to enjoy their happy hour menu. We ordered: - Mambo Platter 4/5 - Croquetes 4/5 - Mojito 4/5 - Presidente 4/5 I asked the bartender if there was any pork in the platter as the items specifics weren't listed on the happy hour menu and she informed me that three of the items had pork in them and I asked if she could put them on a separate plate since my gf is Muslim and can't eat pork, but she said let me ask the cook and then she informed us that he couldn't because of the presentation. What??? We are eating it not him. That made zero sense to us, but whatever. We made it work. The platter consisted of: - Pork crackling 2/5 - Ham croquets 3/5 - Stuffed potato 5/5 - Corn fritters 5/5 - Beef empanadas 4/5 - Cuban tamale 4/5 - Spicy mambo sauce 5/5 I really like this place. The atmosphere is what makes it so special. It's very open and spacious and the vibes are great. The bartenders were very nice and friendly. They also have valet parking which is free but make sure to tip your valet attendants. I was happy with our decision to come here and we'll definitely stop back in the next time we are in the area. Amazing atmosphere and good was delicious! Cant express how tasty and delicious the Pina colata in the coconut is!! A bit on the expensive side but definitely a must try!! It's all worth it! Staff were very attentive and friendly!! Parking was very convenient and reservations are a must!

A great ambiance for celebrating a birthday. And it was simple to make reservations with plenty of timing options. Additionally, the indoor design is beautiful! I love all the palm trees. The drinks were also good & strong. I wasn't a fan of a few things 1) Valet is mandatory, which means a cash grab 1 for unsuspecting patrons ( it's "Free" but Tips are somewhat mandatory) 2) My family got their pictures taken automatically when they entered the restaurant, and the photographer while nice, was very pushy in trying to get us to purchase multiple pictures ( they were very pricey ! ) 3) One of the salmon dishes were overly sweet 4) The food took a while to come out and when it did, it was cold. All in all I can see why some folks might love this place, but my experience left a lot to be desired.

I like Mambo. The place is always packed and the food is consistent. They have a huge space but because it is so popular, there is still almost always a wait. They offer valet parking which perhaps is the worst idea ever. Route 22 is already packed and the added traffic of waiting in line to park is absolutely ridiculous. That being said, the food is good, the happy hour is great and the mojitos and sangrias alone are worth the visit. Because it is so busy and crowded, the music is always loud so not a place I would recommend for a romantic date

This was the first time my wife and I tried this place. We were with a group of friends hanging out before the holidays. What can I say? The place was great! It had a very lounge-like vibe, yet it maintained the restaurant motiff. We hung out at the bar while waiting for our friends and ordered a couple of drinks. They were spot on! My wife had two piña coladas and I had two daiquiris. The bartenders were very friendly and they knew what they were doing. When our friends arrived, we did have to wait awhile because our table was still being occupied by a previous party. So, we had a few empanadas as appetizers. They were so good! We finally got seated and ordered dinner. The food came in promptly. They were absolutely scrumptious! I had the the grilled pork chops with pineapple sauce. My wife had the roasted pork belly. Every pound I gained from this dinner was well worth it! The desserts were very good, too! Their Tres Leches was not too sweet, just right. I would definitely go back to this spot.

This place was super fun. Decor brought you back to Cuba with a literal car and bongo drums in the restaurant. Some of our drinks came out out with smoke boxes. The snapper had a great presentation and was quite good. We also had the sampler appetizer. The pork belly was good. Too bad I'll no likely be in this area again. I would go back. One thing it seemed we were u redressed for the place. Or everyone just dresses nicer in this area‍

First time here and wowww; it was an incredible experience! Great decor right as you walk up the steps and into a lively foyer and dining space. The service was impeccable and for a Saturday night, that's saying something. Drinks were great! Shared the white wine sangria pitcher and some got mojitos of course. We shared the Mambo platter for an app, and honestly could have gotten 2 for the 6 people sharing but we didn't want to go overboard. The main courses were super yummy. The seafood paella was soooo good! Everyone enjoyed their choice and the portions sizes were big enough for leftovers. We saved room for dessert, and how fun is the staff doing a birthday song?! It's just a fun, lively vibe in there all night long. The flan was awesome, not too sweet. I liked the tres leches but it wasn't my fav. This was the perfect spot for a celebration. We all had a fun time and enjoyed ourselves! Remember to save cash to tip the valet on the way out too.

I will say parking is street parking or side streets and can get a little crazy on weekends. Service is always great and you feel like you are a part of the family here. Food is always fresh and amazing. Anytime I am near here we stop regardless of being hungry or not. I absolutely am obsessed with their vaca frita and black beans. It's a huge portion so leftovers are always good. My boyfriend always orders their cubano as he said it is the best one he has ever had. Their Maduros are also sweet and crisp and never greasy. We also tried their choripan sandwich and it was awesome. We've never had thinly sliced chorizo which eliminates the usual oil and messiness. Always an amazing meal. We also tried their pineapple Cuban smoothie and ended the meal with their delicious flan.

I appreciated the complimentary yuca fritters with special sauce, which was a kind gesture. However, the overall quality, freshness, and authenticity of the main dishes did not meet expectations. Parking is very limited street parking. The Cuban breaded steak was the biggest disappointment. A proper Cuban-style breaded steak should be thin, tender, savory, garlicky, slightly citrusy, well-seasoned, evenly breaded, and pan-fried until crisp and golden. The version I received tasted oddly sweet, the breading separated from the meat, and the steak had a gummy texture with an old-looking color. It did not have the freshness or clean savory flavor expected from this classic dish. The red beans were very concerning. They tasted strongly like vinegar, and I had to spit them out. When I looked closer, there appeared to be a white, murky-looking substance in them. Beans should never taste sour or vinegary unless something is wrong. Cuban-style red beans should be creamy, savory, aromatic, and well-seasoned with garlic, onion, peppers, cumin, oregano, and bay leaves. The white rice was also not acceptable. It was hard, did not taste fresh, and had a vinegar-like smell and flavor. It appeared as if older rice may have been mixed with newer rice. Proper Cuban white rice should be fluffy, clean-tasting, separated, and neutral in flavor. The moro with black beans and rice was better than the white rice, but still lacked depth. It needed more bay leaf flavor and stronger Cuban seasoning. A good moro should have a rich, savory base from sofrito, garlic, peppers, onions, beans, broth, herbs, and slow cooking so the rice absorbs the flavor. The oxtail was tender and okay, but it did not fully deliver the deep, rich Cuban-style flavor I expected. Traditional Cuban oxtail should be slow-braised with garlic, onions, peppers, tomato sauce, wine, herbs, and spices until the sauce becomes rich and the meat is deeply seasoned. This oxtail tasted acceptable, but it seemed as though it may have been prepared a day or two before and reheated. I understand that many restaurants legally prepare certain foods a day ahead, especially dishes like beans, stews, and oxtail. However, food should still taste fresh and be stored, cooled, reheated, and handled according to food safety standards. Sour or vinegar-like flavors in rice or beans can sometimes indicate fermentation, spoilage, or improper storage, and that should never reach the customer. The best part of the meal was the dessert. The vanilla flan was very good, and the coconut flan was excellent. The coconut flan was rich, creamy, and full of coconut flavor, with shredded coconut pieces that added texture and made it stand out. That dessert showed real potential. The prices were reasonable, but reasonable pricing does not make up for poor freshness and low food quality. It did look like they may do better with sandwiches and empanadas, which I did not try and perhaps should have ordered first. I cook Cuban food, Puerto Rican food, and other traditional dishes myself, and I lived in Miami for over nine years. I also learned from Cuban friends who cook authentic Cuban food at home. Because of that, I know how these dishes should taste. In my opinion, the dishes I tried did not represent Cuban cuisine with the freshness, authenticity, seasoning, or care it deserves. The restaurant may have people who know how to cook, but based on this visit, it seems the kitchen has lost some of the authenticity and discipline needed to serve fresh, properly prepared Cuban food. Food that tastes sour, vinegary, old, or questionable should never be served to customers. The service and desserts were the highlights, but the main dishes need serious improvement in freshness, food handling, seasoning, and respect for authentic Cuban cuisine. There are several areas that need improvement. Freshness and food safety should be the main priority. Rice and beans should never taste sour or vinegary unless intentionally prepared that way, and food that seems old or questionable should not be served. The breaded steak should be freshly breaded, crispy outside, tender inside, and properly seasoned with authentic Cuban flavors like garlic, citrus, cumin, oregano, and bay leaves. The rice should be fluffy, the beans creamy, and the oxtail deeply seasoned and fresh-tasting. I believe the restaurant may have cooks who understand Cuban cuisine, but the kitchen needs to reconnect with freshness, consistency, authenticity, and stronger food handling standards. Cuban food is rich in flavor, comfort, and cultural pride, and with improvement this restaurant could better reflect that tradition.

The next day we heated up the left overs for lunch. As I was eating, I saw something strange on my plate. I wasn't sure what is was. I placed it on a napkin and my husband dissected it with 2 toothpicks. I couldn't believe there was a strand of a thick steel scrubbing pad in my beans. We took pictures of it and then tossed the food in the trash. We immediately called Rumba and spoke with Jenny, the manager. She apologized, texted me, and requested pictures of the food. I sent her the pictures via text and to my disbelief, I never heard from her again. It has been 11 days and she completely disregarded me and my family. What a disgrace! She did not even have the decency to offer a refund or anything. My husband and I have been loyal patrons of Rumba since 2019. We have celebrated numerous birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries in their establishments. We definitely do not feel like valued customers after this experience. Thank God that my six year old daughter, my husband, nor I did not ingest this piece of steel scrubbing pad. Having done so could have lead to serious/fatal consequences. The fact that Jenny did not take this issue seriously is disheartening. Finding a steel strand in your food is a major health hazard not to be ignored. It's a shame! We feel extremely disappointed and will not be returning. I certainly do NOT recommend Rumba in Clifton.

I'm not sure if it was because it was midweek or if the chef was simply off his game on this night, but the experience was disappointing overall. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was that my knife was dirty. I ended up taking another knife from a different table. The ambiance, as always, was wonderful, and there were only two other tables occupied, so the restaurant was not busy at all. They started us off with soup, and it was chicken noodle soup. I was honestly very disappointed. When I go to a Spanish restaurant, especially one like this, I expect something traditional like caldo gallego or a similar house soup -- not chicken noodle soup that I could easily make at home. For appetizers, we ordered shrimp in garlic sauce and calamari. Both were absolutely delicious and honestly the highlight of the meal. We also had to ask the waiter for bread, and when it finally arrived, we were each given one very small roll. Our main entrées were sautéed tilapia and shrimp in lemon sauce with mashed potatoes and string beans, and breaded veal cutlet Milanese with mushrooms in a wine and brandy sauce over mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, neither entrée stood out the way meals here usually do. The tilapia was sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes and absolutely swimming in lemon sauce. There was so much sauce that it completely soaked the mashed potatoes and vegetables. I could only eat the top portion of the fish. My husband also mentioned that his breaded veal was very oily. The waiter never returned to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. The water had no ice and felt warm. We also had to ask for additional bread. I'm used to bread being left at the table, not rationed piece by piece. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meal, I politely explained that I did not care for mine and why, especially since most of it was left untouched. He looked at me like I had ten heads. I truly hate writing this because this restaurant has been one of my favorites for years, but this visit just did not live up to the standard I've come to expect.
