As a Puerto Rican, I was pleasantly surprised at how good everything was. The pernil was juicy and full of flavor, and the arroz con gandules? Perfect. I've had plenty of rice in my life, and it's usually either way too dry or oily with no taste. This one was spot on. I even got a side of red beans and they tied it all together. Flavor? On point. I have been here for my birthday and also for a Date and that was about 2 years apart and this place still is thriving . The customer service was great . Always clean and friendly, I love the pictures on the wall it reminds me of my mother so much. The food per usual was very fresh and delicious and I will definitely go back soon! I arrive at the store, the rice I saw online for 38 dollars is as 60 dollars in store. they refused to honor the price which is illegal. Great place for lunch in the downtown Newark area. I had the grilled chicken breast which was moist and tasty. A very filling lunch and the serving sizes were big enough to be full and have enough to bring home for leftovers. Well prepared and good size portions. Had the roast pork and roast chicken. Server was very helpful and explained the dishes very well.

Food was delicious, I had the bistec guisado (stewed beef ) with white rice, beans and tostones and I need the biggest nap right now. Beans tasted like my grandma's but like with a lil extra something (don't tell her I said that) rice was super flufy and the beef made me feel like a kid sitting at the kitchen table waiting for my grandma to give me some pegao. Delicious Puerto rican food done right! It was super busy since they just had the grand opening last night. The layout is a little weird since all of these people were just standing around us waiting for their takeout while I was eating. Not a big deal though as that will most likely get sorted out soon. When I say always on point! I mean that. True Puerto Rican food done right. Atmosphere has Tiano symbolism that delights my heart being of my lineage and bloodline. It's so great to see Tianos progressing over the years and still dishing out the best dishes. We've tried it all from the well seasoned pernil, to the chuletas, chicharron de pollo, mofongo with shrimp or steak. The alcapurrias come in traditional masa (green plaintain) or in yuca and they're both really good, but yuca is my definite favorite. Service is always accommodating and impeccable. They have a lot of menu selections to choose from, and I say Go for it all! Their flan is lovely, and I love that they have diffraction types to choose from. I love the vanilla and coco. Great Spanish food is hard to find in this area, but Tainos serves justice to the Boriken name. read more

Heard good things about this place so here we go. For appetizers my wife and I each ordered Alcapurrias. She had the cassava and I had the green banana. It was very good and filling. I liked mine better. Then we had our main plates. I had the Pernil Asado (Roasted Pork) with arroz con gandules w/maduros. It was very good and tasty. I asked if I can get cuero (skin) and she wasn't sure if they had anymore. Lucky for me they did and it was nice and crunchy. My wife had the carne asado (roast beef) with white rice and maduros. I had a taste of her dish and must say the meat was soft and tasty. We drank it down with mango juice and she had the lemonade (2 of them and they charged us twice for this!?). Most places we've been too they DO NOT charge for Lemonade refills. But it is what it is. for dessert I had the Flan/Vanilla and it was ok, I had better. My wife had the tres leche and it was not soggy like it should be. All in all It was a pleasant experience. Would I go back? Not if they don't give refills on Lemonade (the least they can do). Unfortunately the empanadas and alcapurrias were very greasy outside and not very flavorful but the woman who attended me was pleasant. The decor inside was nice.
