Stopped by on a Saturday for lunch. When we arrived, it was clear the restaurant had just opened--it was clean but empty. The bartender appeared to be on the phone taking an order and didn't acknowledge us until he finished the call. Once done, he told us to sit at any table and brought over the food and drink menus. Unfortunately, the bartender didn't come across as very friendly. It seemed like he was covering the tables because the server hadn't arrived yet. When the server did arrive, her energy was much more welcoming, and I wish she had been the one to greet and serve us from the start. We ordered the empanadas as an appetizer--two beef and one chicken. We wanted to try the shrimp but were told they didn't have any. The empanadas were flavorful and clearly freshly made. For my entrée, I ordered the arroz con pollo. I was expecting baked chicken with white rice and beans on the side, but instead, it was a one-pot dish with yellow rice, chicken, peppers, and plantains all on one plate. I realized later I had missed the "arroz criollo" description on the menu. While the dish wasn't what I had anticipated, it was still tasty. I'd return, but I'd order something different and only stay if the bartender isn't serving my table.

24 hour update of eating Sazon y Pilon, I really hate to be the bearer of bad news but I got extremely bad food poisoning. I'm not really sure what happened because I have eaten here before but after experiencing what I've experienced in the past 24 hours has turned me off completely. I was able to reach out to their customer service email and get a refund. The customer service was pleasant so that is the saving grace. They stated that they would review there food handling practices. If you choose to eat here anyway, beware! Sorry!!

I finally made it here with my mom, and we had such a great experience! She ordered the lunch special while I went with an entrée. Everything was absolutely delicious--full of flavor and wonderfully authentic. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the place had great music and a warm, inviting ambiance. I had the chimichurri with garlic, served with yellow rice and beans--amazing. My mom chose the pernil with tostones, and the sauce that came with it was out of this world. We finished off with a cappuccino and flan, both so good we ended up ordering seconds. So happy to have discovered this little gem in New City!

Brunch was perfect. My friends and I ate while the DJ spun good beats. We had the unlimited mimosas and shared the breakfast pancake tacos, the Mangu mofongo style, and a traditional paella pot. The portions were satiating and the flavors are spot on authentic. The service was good. And we really enjoyed ourselves. There is even room to cut a rug if you feel like it. I definitely recommend brunch!

My friends and I had a great dinner at Sazon y Pilon one Saturday night. I was so excited to try this place out. I ate SO much food and felt SO full afterwards so it was definitely a lovely experience. The restaurant is in a strip mall type area with plenty of parking. The restaurant has a very fun vibe to it, with a bar on the left when you first walk in. We were greeted and taken to a four top table. It's a bit smallish on the inside. We started with drinks. I ordered a coconut mojito and it was so delicious! I highly recommend that drink. It was creamy and minty and perfect! We ordered some empanadas for an appetizer and I wanted to try the black bean soup as well. The black bean soup was SO good. It came with sausage and sour cream. I had a shrimp empanada that was just ok, and my friends said the chicken empanadas were just ok as well. For dinner I ordered the Bistec Encebollado and my friends ordered different kinds of Mofungo. The Bistec Encebollado was awesome! The steak was cooked perfectly and the onions were delicious. It was a good sized portion, so I took half of it home. My friend shared some of her Mofungo with me and I didn't really like it. It tasted a bit too salty? I'm glad I went with the Bistec entree! For dessert you know I have to order the tres leches cake. When it first came out I thought it looked a little dry and was feeling like it may not stack up but boy was I wrong! It was definitely airy and moist. I loved the added cinnamon on the top. It was great! I also want to give a shout out to our waitress, Marissa, I believe her name is. She was so patient with us and our questions and she made great recommendations for us. Thank you Sazon y Pilon for a lovely girls night out!

Exceptional food, great vibes, and a cozy, intimate space--an unforgettable experience. I can't express how much I loved the atmosphere and the thoughtful attention to detail. Every moment felt special." And that one drink? Absolutely amazing--I highly recommend Puna Cana.

Fantastic food, service, staff and atmosphere. The drinks are 11/10 and the food is very flavorful. You literally cannot go wrong with any item on the menu.

We had the most delicious Mofongo with salsa criolla! The Sangria was yummy too. I recommend this restaurant for authentic Latin cuisine.

The inside of the restaurant is decently sized, clean, and even has a space where you can host a DJ, which is a nice touch. There was a slight language barrier, but it wasn't a big issue. I waited about 5-10 minutes for my to-go order since the hostess/server was the only one working outside of the kitchen staff. I ordered the MOFONGO MIXTO (Mixed Mofongo), which is crispy green plantains mashed with garlic and olive oil, paired with chicharrón, chicken, or cheese. It was solid--rich, tasty, and especially delicious with the salsa blanco, which was creamy and garlicky. That sauce was a first for me, and I loved it! While I've had mofongo that included rice and beans elsewhere, this version stood on its own nicely. A couple of notes: parking is a bit challenging, and I'd recommend placing your order through an app to help navigate any potential language barriers. Overall, a good experience, and I'd definitely give it another shot!

The chivo guisado was extremely juicy and the meat was so tender - falling off the bone. The pico pollo was great too and very well seasoned. Portions sizes were generous with very reasonable prices too. The staff are very friendly too. It's a nice place to come and enjoy some authentic Dominican food with some bottles of Presidente or cocktails. I recommend giving them a try. You will not be disappointed.

I figured I'd also grab my favorite handheld snack: an empanada. This is a small, no-frills counter-service spot with empanadas on display, a counter for fresh salads and juices, and a cooler leading into the kitchen. After a friendly "good morning,"we ordered the Avena, and I went all-in on empanadas: carne de res molida, pollo con queso, pizza, pepperoni pizza, and pollo. She bagged them up, and the moment she handed me the warm bag, the smell hit me--fresh, fragrant, and impossible to resist. I could hardly wait to dig in. On the side, I loaded up on their pink sauce and hot sauce (both highly recommended). As soon as we got home, I grabbed the carne empanada first. The crust was perfectly fried--crispy yet still doughy, and the filling was so flavorful I immediately made everyone at the table try a bite. The same went for the chicken, chicken with cheese, pizza, and pepperoni empanadas. The dough was consistently delicious--some flaky and soft, others crispier--but every single one was a winner. My only regret? Not buying more. This place nailed consistency across 5 flavors, and that's why I'll be back. 5/5 stars.

Since both my wife and I love empanadas we walked in and gave it a try. The inside of the shop wasn't too big and in all honesty I don't remember much about it other than a heated display case full or empanadas and a place to order. After looking at the display case on this morning I ultimately decided to have one ham and cheese, one pizza and one pepperoni and cheese. Now I know those last two aren't traditional flavors but I wanted to give some to my twins and figured that they might enjoy it. In any case the worker plucked my empanadas out of the display and we were on our way only $6 lighter in our pockets. My first bite of the empanada really showed off the dough which I loved as it was light and flaky. The fillings on the inside were good too and both my wife and I enjoyed all of them with my favorite being the pepperoni and cheese. The bottom line for me is that I would absolutely return here again in the future. I really enjoyed the crust of the empanadas and also thought that the fillings were good as well!

It's a very casual, cafeteria-style spot with a semi-open kitchen, but don't let the simplicity fool you -- the food is incredible and the staff here is friendly and patient. The highlight of the experience is the small buffet that features a variety of freshly-made Latin cuisine -- including pulled pork, chicken and beef stews, and other traditional Latin entrees and sides. You can build your own plate by selecting one or more entrees and sides - which are priced accordingly. As a 'gringo' who wasn't entirely sure what everything was, I really appreciated them taking the extra time to explain all the different options and give me their honest recommendations. The counterstaff is bilingual and were pretty patient with my elementary school level Spanish vocabulary and grammar. I ended up going with the pulled pork platter with two sides ($7) and it was terrific -- the perfectly seasoned and tender pork, black beans and rice, and macaroni salad were delicious and very filling. You can tell they use fresh ingredients, and the portions are very generous for the price. If you're looking for authentic, home-style Latino food in a laid-back setting, this is the spot! PRO TIP #1: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home to enjoy with your meal. Sazon Latino is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol. PRO TIP #2: Sazon Latino offers free off-street parking in a small lot behind the restaurant and there's plenty of free on-street parking on Main Street.
