They have a buffet I think from noon to 3pm for $7 all u can eat to take out and $9 to go and the food is delicious and fresh. Def recommend the spot. They have about four kinds of meets, maduros, yuka and Teo types of rice put along with red beans. I said yes, and then I proceeded to drive home and open the bag to find she gave me a small goat and yellow rice, and entire medium plate of just rice. Went in here with my man for a quick lunch. Small place, no decor really, just kind of plain and dull looks wise. Food was good, not amazing but not terrible. The chicken my boyfriend ordered had good flavor, the rice was pretty good too. The STAR at this place was the beans, holy lord those beans were BOMB! I could have drank them, inhaled them in one mouthful if I could have. My monfongo however was not what I had wanted. The previous two times I've had monfongo (from different restaurants they've been in a creamy sauce, this broth was clear and fishy tasting. I'd give it 4 stars if the food was not inconsistent. It's in a sketchy strip mall next to two other sketchy food joints. It's clean but looks dirty. It's exactly the way I like it. Not pretentious the food is authentic and made fresh. It's a Latino joint and serves Latino style. Food can be over cooked and sometimes not the highest quality. The waitress who was at my back looked my way and went on with her conversation. They have a lunch buffet which was very reasonably priced. I've never eaten in the restaurant, just picked up take out, but everything has been great. I tried their batidos and they were also pretty good. I absolutely am in LOVE with this place. I came here yesterday around noon. I was going to check out the haitian spot but this place caught my eye. different ranges of people were sitting and eating which was great, and I was greeted by the owner by the bar. there's a buffet from 11-3 and I asked if I could take out. he helped me with everything. first, he gave me a bowl and a fork so I could go around trying everything I liked. then he asked if I wanted meat in one whole container, and the rice and beans separate. I said yes. so I did the goat and beef in one container, had another huge container of rice, a cup of beans and sauce, and a smaller container filled with yucca and plantains. everything excluding the drink and tax was only $8.50 - and the service was beyond phenomenal. so fresh, I found this to be slightly similar to indian food with the meat but thank god it's not spicy. I ate a quarter of the food and was ready to fall asleep. a returning customer. also, just because it's not in a nice area doesn't mean it's gross. it's really authentic and they've been here since '94. read more

What a joke!!! Came into Latin star, wasn't greeted or spoken to by anyone, that I can live with. Sat and waited for 20 minutes with no service, foods pretty good so that I can live with. Overhearing the staff call my friend and I "la migra", that I can't live with. These simple minded people couldn't even serve customers because they thought we were immigration? I could sue for racial discrimination but since the police inside didn't acknowledge us, him also being of Latino decent, it seems pointless. So sad a world we live in. Here's the best part, on the way out, as we opened the door, a RAT ran outside from within the restaurant. All in all, thanks for not serving us you disgusting human beings. And your welcome for all the tax breaks and government assistance your sucking away from our community, really nice of you. read more

This place is a pretty good Latin food spot with decent sized portions. We have ordered from here a few times and received satisfactory dishes. This time around when we ordered the chicken it was a bit dry, but what I do love about this place is that the food is always packed with flavor! If you are a provider of services to people with developmental disabilities AVOID this place at all costs. I work for a day program that provides services to developmentally disabled individuals. When we first arrived the gentleman behind the counter told us to find a table and someone would be out to assist us (we were planning to do the buffet and just needed the waitress to take our drink orders). Everything was going well until we went to the buffet. Before we got the chance to start filling our plates that same gentleman approached our group and told us that our individuals would have to remain seated at the table while we put food on their plates! When I expressed to him that they had to choose what they wanted, he simply shrugged his shoulders and said it was because the restaurant was busy . Really??!! Mind you there are only 5 of us (2 staff, 3 individuals). I've never felt so disrespected, angry and heartbroken at the same time . I've always visited this restaurant and the food has always been really good but I will never come back here and will be notifying everyone I know about the blatant discrimination that we encountered! read more
