this was my first time trying columbian food and it was a good experience! few things i tried. corn patty (you get three with a sauce to dip) pretty good but plain. i dipped it in the salsa and beans. the beans were very good! rice was white and plain but good. i'd eat it with other stuff. chips and salsas very good! one was very spicy but still good :) just can't eat too much of it. i wanted a chicken and potato empanada but they gave me steak. i didn't care for it honestly. i had the cheese empanada. that was my favorite. i would have gotten 3! me and my friend split tres leches cake. it was ok. i never had it before so i didn't realize how runny it was. i honestly thought it was just made with 3 milks but i didn't think it was gonna be very milky on the plate too. just didn't care for the texture but the taste was sweet. it was just ok. i ate half of the half and my friend had the other half. i took my rice and beans home. everything was not bad. pros and cons. i would come back again. service was very friendly. the other part i didn't like were these stupid guys that sat RIGHT BEHIND US even though there were other tables and they played loud videos and music on their phones. i fucking hate that!!! read more

Excellent food!! If you're looking for authentic Colombian food and large portions this is the place to go. Everything is super yummy; we ordered the Churrasco and it was cooked to perfection; the Lomo Saltado was sooo yummy that I eat it first and then ate my rice and sweet plantains. The kids meal portions are sooo generous that even an adult can order it and be satisfied; my kids ordered the " Bandeja Paisa" which is rice w/red beans; steak; fried egg; sweet plantains and Fried Pork; the Steak and Fries. We also ordered the "Red Snapper" which I was a little hesitant due to I'm from the Caribbean and I have high standards when it comes to seafood; and the fish fried to perfection; fish was crunchy and well seasoned. Our server was the sweetest and most attentive server we've ever had; making sure we had everything we needed. This restaurant had really nice outdoor seating if you wish to eat outdoors. Another thing is this place is super clean!! The bathrooms are impeccable!! Definitely a great place to enjoy great Colombian food with great ambiance The only thing I regret is not taking pictures of the food; we were all hungry and the food smelled so good we didn't have time. Just discovered this place and can't believe what I have been missing. Pre COVID19 I think it was mostly take out but now there is an outdoor patio in the back that is just beautiful. The only thing better than the patio is the food and the service. Both were AWESOME. This is gonna me my new 'go to' place. read more

DISCLAIMER: You don't have to be Latin to enjoy this food. I don't even know where to begin ! I've been eating here for years (3 to be exact) , their food is always great never had a problem (knock on wood)! They get extremely busy so order at least 2 hours in advance if you want delivery, pick up orders are much better. Their customer service is always good. They primarily speak Spanish but they also speak English as well so don't be intimidated. The Food If you're not sure what to get go with #20 !!! You can't go wrong the #20 is their signature house special. It's a big platter it comes with beans , rice, egg, and so much more. But to be honest everything is great here. I can't rant or rave anymore about the food you have to just experience it. You will NOT be disappointed. If you want some good home cooked food go here. I think having more places like this in the community is necessary , because small businesses do matter. Especially in a small town like union where most residents go outside of the neighborhood to do business. I think if more people knew about the restaurant it could be placed on scale along with a place like Cuban Petes. read more

First time trying their Bandeja paisa and it was great. We got the small size but it was still enough for 2 people who don't eat much. We enjoyed our high carb, high fat and high protein breakfast. LOL! Though bf said that their steak lacks flavor. The beef empanada had a lot of potato but i guess that's how columbian empanadas are since I had tried it somewhere else. I typically head to Elizabeth if I'm craving Colombian or Peruvian food; however, sometimes, it's just too far or way too busy. If you're around the Four Points area, I would recommend this place if you're craving Colombian food. The restaurant is small with probably six tables max. Free two hour public parking is available when you turn onto Bonnel Ct.--the parking lot will be on your left. Empanadas ($1/ea): Someone mentioned that the empanadas here are full of potatoes. After trying one, I can confirm that there are indeed a lot of potatoes; however, there is shredded beef that's mixed in. Initially, I did not taste the beef, but towards the middle of the empanada, you'll find it. These were served fresh from the fryer and with a side of an addicting spicy salsa. Bandeja Paisa ($14): Delicious. I can't say there is anything that distinctly separates the Bandeja Paisa here from other restaurants; however, I do think the chorizo is much more flavorful and that the steak is also slightly thicker than my go to place. I'm used to seeing the beans served in a separate bowl, but having it on the same plate was fine. The arepa was bland, but I don't think I've eaten an arepa I enjoyed yet. Bistec Encebollado ($14): This was served on a sizzling plate, which was nice since few places I've been to so far serve it like this; there's a scoop of rice and a salad on the side. The beef was tender and the onions soaked up the rich and savory marinade used on the beef. I know some people will find it a wee-bit salty, but I did not find that to be the case. However, I'll leave that for others to judge. Bistec a Caballo ($14): I've had this dish before at another restaurant, and can say for sure that the tomato and onion sauce is much more flavorful here. It is quite sweet, which I am not really fond of, but I still enjoyed the steak and onions with every bite. The meat was tender, but note that some of the fattier parts may be a little chewy. It is served with rice, a salad, three large fried plantain chips, and two fried eggs. Mango Shake ($4): It's served in these cool handled mason jars. You could have it mixed with milk or water, but I recommend it with milk. It was made with real mangoes, so you can definitely taste it and the natural sweetness. I wish it was larger, though--I really liked it! Overall, I would come back. The food was good, the service was great (the owners are friendly), and I don't really have any complaints. I noticed a lot of people coming here for coffee, so I might opt for some next time I stop by. read more

HANDS DOWN THE BEST! Being a person of mixed cultures white/Hispanic eating at numerous amount of restaurants/Spanish restaurants each having their own little specialty, but Gusto & Sabor have never let me down. Their food is not only authentic but delicious. I can honestly say they are hands down one of the best restaurants to eat at in union county it doesn't matter what you order it's always amazing! (Empenadas are a must). The staff and employees that work there are the nicest and most accommodating. I didn't really know too much about this spot until I moved here 2 years ago almost literally across the street from them and have ordered once to twice even three times a week that's how good their food is. Did I mention their desserts! Ooo if you have a sweet tooth their tres leches and cerradura are two of my faves! I give this place one of my highest recommendations to eat at. What a gem we stumbled upon for dinner. We wanted Colombian food and decided to look into a new spot and read the reviews and felt it was worth a try. SO GLAD WE DID! They had an outdoor tent available got our group of 6. It was a chilly night, but they even brought us a small heater to keep us warmer. In two weeks they said they will have outdoor heater s throughout the outdoor seating. Our server Diana was so helpful and attentive. On to the food, huge portions! The cheese empanadas to start were so good! For dinner, the bandeja paisa was huge and filling. Everyone enjoyed their meals in the party of 6. We all had to go plates because of how much food they gave us. We also loved that it is BYOB. All of the food was so good. I try tres leches pretty much any latin restaurant I go, and this one was up there with the best. Towards the end of the night the owner gave us a dessert just as another way to keep us feeling welcome on a chilly night. The food was all amazing and the service was really top notch. Had to do something in Jersey, I knew there were a few Colombian restaurants in the area, I was really wishing for some Colombian food, opened up the app and found this gem. For some reason I felt like having breakfast at 4pm, so I ordered calentado(calentao), which is basically eggs, rice and beans, arepa and beef steak. I have to say that this plate is delicious, now I don't know if all Colombian restaurants cook it the same way, but here at Gusto & Sabor the way it was cooked, made my toes curl. It's small place located in a main street, the service is excellent, our waitress gets a 10 out of 10, her customer service was the cherry on top of whole experience at this restaurant. The prices are ok, not cheap but worth it, overall I'm already thinking about taking some people to Sabor & Gusto. read more

Food taste is at best average compared to other Colombian places within a few miles. I Have eaten at this place periodically and the portion sizes and taste have decreased. This is decent comfort food- made by a family owned business. Our waitress was very polite and they were open on the Memorial day even though no one was in the restaurant except us. However when the waitress asked Is what we wanted to drink and we said "water" she then proceeded to give us bottled Poland Spring water with straws and charge is for it. If she was unsure what kind of water she should have asked us to specify if we want to tap water rather than immediately charge us extra. That was a bit annoying. I tried their beef empanadas and while they were a bit on the small side, they were fantastic. I agree with the other reviews that they contain more potatoes than actual beef, but they were still really good. Especially with the hot sauce they gave us-it was more sour than spicy but it had the perfect amount of the city easy to break up the meal. Also had the bandeja paisa which had excellent chorizo and plantains and pork belly. Those were definitely the star of the meal whereas everything else was average and nothing to rave about. Again, the hot sauce tasted good with everything and it is such a big portion that it could probably feed three people so I thought it was decent price- wise. read more

Wow what a pleasure eating at Gusto y Sabor. Pleasant and polite attentive staff. Food was delicious. Great outdoor dining experience. The freshly made lemonades are a must. My new favorite salad with skirt steak and shrimp was delicious. Empanadas were outstanding with the perfect (aji) hot sauce. My wife and daughter totally enjoyed their traditional bandeja Paisa. Food is delicious and the people that work there are always polite. My only annoyances are that there is a minimum to use a card and there's currently a 50¢ charge per container when you order to go which I'm pretty sure isn't allowed. But back to the positives: they are always willing to answer any questions you might have about an order or the pricing. These days it's hard to get good and consistent customer service when you go out but the people that work here are really nice. I just think the owner needs to rethink what customers are getting charged for. But as long as the food is good and the service is good, I will consistently go back. Really good Colombian food served by the friendliest, nicest staff anywhere. Chicken with mushroom sauce was delicious, and my side of maduros (sweet plantains) was cooked perfectly. Food is not cheap but it was cooked fresh to order and ample portions. We ate outside on the back patio, under an ample tent, with fun music playing. In spite of our being outside the main dining area, the waitress and several other restaurant employees checked on us regularly. Some day I hope they have beans without meat in them, but for me that was the only thing lacking in an otherwise flavorful, relaxed meal. I will be back. read more

Not good! My friend suggested we try a Columbian restaurant outside of Elizabeth. No one was inside and the restaurant was empty. Prices are cheaper in Elizabeth for Columbian and the food is much better. My friend's steak was fatty and overcooked and the chef would not make a new one. They took 15% off the bill but the food was not worth it. Now, I understand why this place was empty. I WILL NOT BE BACK. read more
