I'm honestly so disappointed with the food here. My boyfriend and I got takeout here on a Saturday night. They said it'd be a 30 minute wait and it was ready in 20 minutes which was great. Their location was crowded as expected for a Saturday night and they had cute/funny signs outside. First, they forgot to give us Mexican creama and chipotle aioli to dip in. Then the food was pretty mediocre. We are vegetarian so we got the cheese, peppers, and corn empanada which had no flavor. The flautas which were good in a bad way. Finally, we had the cheese enchiladas which were disappointing and didn't even look appetizing. Overall, very disappointed with this place. They got points for speedy service, cute location, but overall, the food was not great. read more

My brother first ordered us the nachos platter which was devoured back in February so we finally decided to order out. Anytime my daughter finishes her food I give the spot five stars. My daughter is hella picky. We ordered her the taquitos which she ate half then my husband and I ate the other half. They were crispy on the outside and the chicken was so moist, juicy and flavorful on the inside. I also ordered three tacos, pork, fish and fried avocado. I really enjoyed the fried avocado and the sauces that were in the taco. My husband ordered the Mexican wrap, which he only ate half since eating the taquitos. It was very reasonably priced. This will be our go to when we are craving Mexican. read more

Update to my prior review. We tried the Lobster Taco Baja Style on our most recent visit. Nice addition to the menu but I think I'll stick to the regular memo. It was tasty but I guess I prefer their other offerings more. The Torta is my go to here but the tacos are yummy. Desserts are excellent especially the Flan. read more

Great street taco feel! We came here looking for great gluten free tacos and found them. The gauc is pretty good but the tacos are the star of this joint. We tried chicken, pulled pork, cauliflower, and ground beef tacos. All were tasty and unique. Salsa dips were all good with some heat but not too much. Solid Mexican food in the Madison, New Jersey area. For some reason the words "Mexican food" and Madison, New Jersey don't seem to go hand in hand, but here was a testimony that Madison, New Jersey indeed had good Mexican food. The salsa verde is pretty amazing, as is their regular salsa. I had a selection of tacos and all were very good. The carnitas were a particular stand out. The staff were friendly and it was a very positive experience. I would definitely give this place two thumbs up. read more

This place very close to me and a recent new opening in Chatham. I really, really ,really wanted to love this place. However wanting to love the place and actually loving the place are two different things. The key issue that i had was that it didn't taste terribly authentic. I ordered the chicken Tinga bowl and my son had the Chilaquiles. The food came out quickly and was served in nice to-go containers (both positives!) However, the flavors weren't terribly inspiring. Everything was good, but nothing was great. Very healthy and definitely fresh; however it lacked some of key things that one would look for. For example, No cilantro or hint of lime on my bowl. The bowl was very simple (beans, rice, corn, black beans); and 2 of the items seemed to either come from can (the beans) or warmed up frozen (the corn); with little, if any added seasonings. The chicken was basic white rice cooked with what I think was chicken or vegetable stock and the Chicken Tinga was akin to pulled pork (not cubed chunks as i was expecting). Both my son and I said "Chipotle is better". The issue was the price. 2 entrees as described plus a can of seltzer came out to $26. That's a lot for a basic lunch that was worse than Chipotle. Side of Pico De Gallo (4 oz i think , but possible 8) was $6.50? that seems excessive to me (note that I didn't order it, but just made an observation). My dining companion got the shrimp Tacos. They smelled quite fishy but my friend thought they were OK. I will likely give it another try and perhaps go for the Carnitas and try some tacos. read more

Excellent flavors, love their tomato salsa which has great heat and especially the salsa verde! Five stars for my wrap aka burrito, I got carnitas, a big soft tortilla loaded with meat rice beans plus a dab of guacamole, salsa and chips on the side, great value for $10.50, add $4 if you want steak or shrimp. My dining companion tried the chicken taquitos, super tender white meat wrapped in a tortilla and fried to perfection, good but very simple, the side of cilantro dip made them better, 6 for $12.50. An 8 ounce bag of chips is $4.50, salsa is $6.50 extra on top of that, grumble. A churro for dessert ($2) was still raw in the middle unfortunately. It's easy to spend $20 per person here. Staff was pretty good (not great) about wearing masks. No inside dining at all, three tables out front so you might eat right there, but parking is near impossible find a spot on the street. Vegetarian rating: 4 stars, everything is available with roasted corn and peppers instead of animal protein so veg peeps can try almost all the variations here. Apparently so popular they sometimes run out of food, at least they did on a Saturday when we tried to stop by, hope that doesn't happen to you. read more

I love their tacos! Although on the smaller side, all the ingredients are really fresh. I never thought I would enjoy chickpeas and cauliflower tacos but this place changed my mind on that...it's the best! And their fish tacos are amazing too. Food: 3/10 My girlfriend and I both got "mexican wraps." I got garlic chipotle shrimp and she got pork carnitas. The chipotle shrimp burrito tasted like nothing except wet rice. My girlfriend said her burrito lacked spice and needed salsa. We got pico on the side and it still didn't taste like anything. My burrito was $17.75 and hers was $13.25. Neither was worth the price due to size and taste. Service: 6/10 Depends on the time of day. Lunch is not very busy and you can pick up your food at the counter quickly. Ambience: 6/10 Very average space. Nothing to rave about. Extra notes: I truly want this place to be good, but they need to add more fire and flame to their food. read more

Had a platter of 16 tacos and some rice and beans. The meal was missing salsa and pico de gallo and other condiments. Called the restaurant, and they suggested I come to pick up the missing items. Although I've never been to the food truck I was able to try the newly opened brick and mortar store front in Chatham. Called for pick up and Glen (or Gen) on the phone was super polite and nice when taking my order. Informed me 15 minutes for pick up. Arrived and my food was just coming out, right on time! Beautiful inside area, authentic feeling but not over the top. Got the taco trio, you can mix and match or get all the same, opted for the chicken taco trio. Food was delicious, perfect balance of flavors and right amount of spice. Ordered the chips and salsa and the portion size was on point! No small cup of guac. Excited to try other menu items. I am doing my best to remember my visit here. I wish I had a better start to this review, but I have a policy that if I don't remember food just a couple of days later, it couldn't have really been memorable enough for 5 stars (or, I suppose, 1). I remember there being tacos. Nothing that special, not a whole lot of food for your buck. I know two of them were meat and the meats were not all that distinguishable. I wanna say the third was the fried avocado and it was pretty paltry on the avo. The "authentic Mexican rice" was rice. I think I grabbed an empanada and it was decidedly average as well. I will say the sauces come recommended and I appreciate that food is made fresh, but there is better, more memorable, and cheaper Mexican walking distance from my house, so why should I drive here? So, because I love small businesses and I want them to succeed: Stick with the theme of quality. I would rather you raise your prices and provide enough food with an order vs. having to order two meals to get enough food. I would love to see more distinction in flavor between each style of food (tinga vs. picadillo vs. chipotle aioli, etc.). I would have gotten dessert but you get so little tres leches cake for the portion! Charge $2 more and give me a nice hefty slice. There's definitely a niche for Mexican Spice but they've gotta find it. read more

Tried the new Taco truck yesterday and overall can say the tacos are decent and nothing special. After not a long wait for the tacos in the frigid cold, I brought back 1 vegetarian, 1 beef and 1 chicken to the office for consumption. One point to emphasize that others have commented on already is that they don't double tortilla their tacos so that everything falls apart very quickly and is a mess to deal with. If I were to go back, the only taco I would try again would be the chicken which was moist and flavorful and held together in the taco pretty well. The beef option was very dry and lacked a lot of flavor and the vegetarian corn option, while tasty, almost entirely fell out of the tortilla before I could even take a bite of it. read more

We had their street tacos at the Chatham Fishawack Festival on Saturday, and the flavor was really good. The beef/chorizo was especially tasty. Unfortunately, we couldn't even pick them up without them falling apart. Most "street tacos" we have had used two tortillas, but these only had one. They could have also used a squeeze of lime and something fresh - like a couple of slices of radish. We'd give them another try if we came across them again. read more

I tried their tacos at the Food Truck Festival at Horseshoe Lake in Succasunna and they were delicious! I tried the chicken, pork, and roasted corn tacos and they were all fresh and flavorful! Probably some of the best tacos I've had the pleasure of eating. I also tried a churro which was good as well but I wish it was served warm. The service was very friendly too! I decided on the chicken avocado after the server offered to bring me a sample of the sauce. It was so good I went with the dish. Very good, tasty sauce, 2 nice thin cuts of chicken breast with fluffy rice and beans. My husband had chicken enchiladas . Four on a plate with salsa and sour cream drizzle, with side of rice snd beans. Rice is very nicely cooked. Enchiladas needed a bit more sauce but full of chicken breast. Dishes are fairly priced. Where do I even start! Food is amazing. I seem to stick with the chicken taco trio because it never disappoints. My boyfriend gets the chicken wrap, it's filled with deliciousness, and again never disappoints. I have tried the pork and beef tacos, I liked the pork more than the beef, not because they weren't good, but I think it's just not my type of meat. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is because I think the sides are pricey, if you order an extra side of guacamole or sour cream, it's not your usual .50 cents. Other than that , phenomenal food and great customer service. Yum! I don't know of many Mexican dining options in the Chatham area, but if you're craving Mexican food, Mexican Spice will not disappoint. Having been to Mexico, I know the difference between TexMex/American Mex and true Mexican, and Mexican Spice is almost as close as I've come to experiencing authentic Mexican cuisine in the area (outside of NYC). The guac is fresh with lots of chunky avocado, and the rice is tasty, too. Not inexpensive, but people tend to have the misconception that Mexican food should be cheap. With fine ingredients like fresh avocado and shrimp, you must be prepared to pay to play. Give it a try! read more

Mexican Spice is undoubtedly one of the best places to get authentic Mexican food in a casual setting. I've been going with my family at least once a week literally since they have opened this location and have always had an amazing experience. The ambiance is great, with lots of cute decorations, they're always trying new things, and the people could not be friendlier. Everything on the menu is great but my personal favorite is the chicken tinga quesadilla, which has the perfect amount of filling and is super easy to eat. All of the salsas are awesome too, and are actually spicy. My only complaint is that they are not open 24 hours a day, because that is how often I want to eat it. read more

Very unassuming Mexican spot. I don't think they have a sit down area and it's either pick up or delivery. What can I say - they make some pretty darn good Mexican food. Can't vouch for authenticity but it's delicious! We pretty much have had everything on the menu (seriously). Across the board their "fillings" tasted fresh. Beef empanadas...correction...all their empanada flavors were great. Even the veggie one was a hit! Their chicken tacos were delicious - not dried out like their neighboring competitor. Go with the flour ones and enjoy all their toppings (super fresh). Their quesadillas were loved by the younger ones. Although they opted for the simple cheese only - special request - they gave them a thumbs up. In my opinion the avocado tacos were just meh. Also their churros were way over sugared. This didn't deter me to order them again and again. Add some vanilla ice cream from your freezer - you're welcome.
