Looks like a fairly new Japanese restaurant in Millburn, with a sleek and modern exterior and interior. The main indoor area has projected moving images (fish animation) going across the floor. Soft music is in the background. The menu has everything (hot stone bowl entrees, ramen, sushi and hot and cold appetizers). We opted to share the sushi and sashimi entree for 2. The food was artfully and beautifully prepared and served. The sashimi was atop shiso leaves and grated radish. Everything (nigiri, Jersey roll, spicy salmon roll and sashimi) was served on a light box that can be switched on or off. When on, we can choose white, purple or blue-tinted light. The food itself was very good. The rice was perfectly cooked (not mushy or hard). The fish was fresh and perfectly cut/molded/sized. The dish can feed definitely 2 or more people well. Heard about this new local spot via reviews and a friend. I was in the area and decided to stop in. I ordered a few hand rolls. The Philadelphia, spicy salmon & Alaska roll. The servers were welcoming and pleasant. They checked in frequently. They customized to my liking no questions asked. I don't like minced salmon so they did chopped instead. Came for lunch during restaurant week. Interior is lovely with lots of small decorative touches. Service was good but it was the same person hosting, taking orders, and waiting tables so I can see it getting rough when it gets busy. We ended up order 3 lunch specials for 2 people: 1 Sushi Lunch + 2 Special Rolls. Lunch specials each come with miso soup or salad so ended up getting 3 miso soups. The miso soup and the regular rolls were pretty standard. For special rolls we ordered the Firecracker & Kamikaze. I loved the torched/seared salmon in the Firecracker. We also got the Kamikaze Roll on recommendation - it's hard to go wrong with a shrimp tempura roll but smoked salmon adds a little something special. Lovely venue, however, little chilly by the windows. But more important, I ordered a spring roll appetizer and it appeared to be a very good frozen product. My main course was the Cajun Miso Black Cod. It was poorly prepared and the taste was very disappointing. It came slapped upon a pile of cooked shredded cabbage. I could prepare this dish with fish sauce and a cut of fish from Whole Food. I sent the dish back and didnt chance a replacement. My son ordered sushi. It was mediocre at best. The wait staff was running around like chickens with their heads cut off. They poured the sweet tea into a container from a liter of store purchased product. We live in the town and has come to this place many times. The food is just so-so but service is worse than terrible. We came in with two kids. It was 7pm on Thursday and only one server covered eight table, so waiting quite long. And while we were ordering, my young 2-year old kid bumped his head and started cried, his mom immediately comforted him to stop the quote. Unbelievably, the waitress said with bad face "quite down or the white customer might leave" very rude and unfriendly... and clearly she cares the "white customers more than Asian customers... after ordering, we pointed out she shouldn't be that rude with bad comments, she said she can not help and she thinks if the kids crying, the white customers would look down to Asian customers....and just walked away, directly arguing very unfriendly and complained to his boss... we asked for another new coming waiter later to finish our meal... very unpleasant experience. I watched our platter or sushi sit on the counter for 15 minutes before it was served to us. Food served on cloth place mats which was fine until I realized that they don't replace them between customers but rather wipe them down. Not sure if the board of health would approve. Had high hopes for the newly opened restaurant. Same owners and same kitchen (?) as Millburn Ramen right next door. They share a lot of the same food on the two menus. Went on a Friday night around 6pm. It was about 2/3 full. The main thing is that the food was just not good. And by the time we got it - the hot items were cold and the cold items were lukewarm. Everything was tasteless. That fact alone would keep me from coming back. The service is uneven, needs to work out the kinks. The decor was the best thing about this experience- just not enough to make up for the poor dining experience. We didn't need another mediocre Sushi restaurant. read more

Just ordered delivery from here for the first time and the food was good. The Chilean Sea Bass appetizer was really delicious with nice flavor from the sake. I also enjoyed the Chirashi; the fish was fresh. My husband had the tomato gyodon; it was good but bland (not enough flavor/sauce). The packaging and presentation of the food was also very nice - especially for delivery. I will definitely order from here again and try their other dishes.
